Pawtuxet Village is one of the oldest communities in Rhode Island,
with a history dating back to Roger Williams. Its development can
clearly be traced through several significant stages: from the early
settlement of 1638 to the textile empire of the Rhodes brothers; its
development as a late nineteenth and early twentieth century summer
resort with construction along Pawtuxet Neck; and, later, the transition
into a modern suburban community.
Please support, attend and enjoy all the local events listed within
the calendar, and thank their members as we do. Special thanks to
all of our sponsors for making this exciting second Pawtuxet Village
calendar possible.
The Pawtuxet Village Historic District was nominated to the
National Register of Historic Places in 1973 with its definition
of boundaries outlined and a description of structures mapped
and acknowledged.

Following one of the recommendations within the Historic District
report, our Pawtuxet Village Association (PVA) was established to
promote, protect, preserve and publicize the architectural, social
and environmental values within the district. PVA has coordinated
beautification efforts with signs, lighting and plantings. The Bridge
newspaper keeps citizens educated and informed of Pawtuxet Village,
both architecturally and historically. Spring, fall and winter plantings in
the bridge boxes, American flags and holiday wreaths mark the seasons.
