The Claymore Center
is moving forward!
We are progressive, innovative and
dedicated to changing the way senior
centers are perceived. We have become
a dynamic community center that draws
in multiple generations of older adults by
offering multifaceted programs. The
Claymore Senior Center Inc. has served
the Wilmington and surrounding New
Castle County population for over 30
years. Our center has become a
one-stop information hub linking
community members to resources for
housing, transportation and other needed
services. By being a hub and bringing
people together in one place, we
promote, encourage and inspire the
health, education, creativity and
well-being of the mature community. We
offer an abundance of social gatherings
to minimize isolation, Shuffleboard, Indoor Bocci, Computer Lab, Traditional
Line & Zumba Gold Dancing, Wii Bowling, Bridge and Pinochle, a Bowling
League, Yoga & Healthy Lifestyles Classes, Quilting and Monthly Craft classes,
ongoing Diabetes Education & Support,
on site medical services and continuing
education classes. Most important, our
leader's role is the creation of focused
priorities to maximize limited resources in
order to meet the increasingly diverse
community needs. Our efforts to address
the challenges presented by a growing
older population are rooted in the
deepest principle of our aging services
philosophy: to promote the independence
of seniors by providing services, where
they want to be served and where it is
most cost-effective to serve them in our
center and communities.
Summer is wrapping up and Fall is right around the
corner! We have new Classes, Events and
Fundraising activities lined up just for YOU!

Program Objectives
To improve strength, balance, mobility and daily functioning, and prevent falls in older adults.
Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance™ (TJQMBB) is an evidence-based fall prevention program for
older adults. The program is delivered in two 1-hour sessions each week for 24 weeks. Each session
consists of warm-up exercises; core practices, which include a mix of practice of forms, variations of forms,
and mini-therapeutic movements; and brief cool-down exercises.
Program Description
Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance is designed to improve the strength, balance, and physical functioning of
older adults. The focus of the program is Tai Chi, a nontraditional form of exercise, which is used to help participants improve postural stability, control of body positioning, gait initiation and locomotion, movement symmetry,
and coordination; increase the range of motion around ankle joints; and build strength in lower extremities.
Tai Chi also can be used to enhance mental health, improve sleep quality, and reduce blood pressure.

“Mother’s Day ”
“”The Jungle Book”
Wedding 2”
Plot Summary
Plot Summary
Plot Summary
Toula and Ian were married in a
lavish Greek ceremony several
years ago, and many colorful characters came together to celebrate
their nuptials. Now, another major
wedding is in the works, and Toula
and Ian are on the guest list. They
have a lot of other things on their
minds, however. Their teenage
daughter is constantly stirring up
trouble, and the two of them have
been fighting a lot lately. With so
much angst in their own marriage,
will they be able to celebrate another wedding with joy, or will their
marital problems create a disturbance on this happy day?
Sandy, a divorcee with two
young children, has trouble accepting her ex-husband's new,
much younger wife Tina. Miranda placed her daughter up for
adoption at birth, but now an
adult and engaged, Kristen sets
out to meet her mother after
some urging from her friend Jesse. Meanwhile, Jesse is surprised
to receive a visit from her own
mother and father. As Mother's
Day draws near, all of these
lives will intertwine as these
women evaluate the relationships with their mothers.
2016's The Jungle Book is a modern
retelling of the Disney classic, featuring updated computer animation and
stunning new effects. The story centers
on a young boy named Mowgli and
his life being raised in the jungle by
various jungle animals, including a
bear, panther, and wolves. With a
star-studded cast and the latest in
graphics effects, The Jungle Book is a
coming of age story telling the trials
and tribulations that young Mowgli
goes through as he learns his place in
the world, among animals who look
very different from him and act very
differently from how he acts as well.

ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE
Do you have an “Advance Health Care Directive, more
commonly referred to as a “living will”? If you have never completed a “living will’, now is the time to do so. For
those who already have a living will, you may want to
review it periodically to see that it still does what you
want. Copies are available in the office.
Sheila Larson, LCSW,LLC
My mission is to help my clients
to cope with their most difficult
emotions so that they may live
their lives to the fullest. I am
especially interested in assisting
older adults who are dealing
with chronic illness or pain,
depression, anxiety, isolation
and loss. Nowadays people are
more mobile and family
members are often far away
from their parents and
grandparents. My experience
also includes work with in home
or long-distance family caregivers and the problems that often
arise between siblings who don't agree on the best way to care
for an aging parent. Though I specialize in working with older
adults, I also enjoy working with younger people who are facing
difficult situations. I focus on identifying my client's strengths and
exploring options with them so that they are able to find their own
solutions. It is very rewarding for me to help people learn, grow
and change. Everyone is the ultimate expert of their own lives and
I see my role as helping them to navigate the many forks in the
road to find their unique and most satisfying path in life.

“VIAL OF LIFE”
The Vial of Life program is offered to those residents
that suffer from medical disease and take
medications on a daily basis. A form is provided on
which the participant can list their medical history,
medications taken on a daily basis, and all
medication or other significant allergies. Other information can include the family doctor, cardiologist, or
other specialist and the hospital of choice. The form
is placed in a small medication sized container
labeled "Vial of Life" and is stored in the refrigerator.
A magnetic card is provided to attach to the outside
of the refrigerator to indicate that the vial is inside.
Although the vial does not require refrigeration, this
location was chosen as it is a nearly universal
appliance within the home.
