Foundedby PrinceElectorMoritz von Sachsenin 1548,the DresdenStaatskapelle has beena leadingensemblethroughoutvariousmusical eras,having beenin continuous existencefor over four and a half centuries.Distinguishedconductorshave helpedshape the developmentof this one-timecourt orchestra,including Heinrich Schtitz,Carl Maria von Weberand RichardWagner,for whom the ensemblewas his "miraculousharp". Sir colin Davis hasbeenthe orchestra's conductorlaureatesince1990.
