When relining a chimney above an open fire it is usually necessary
to provide a suitable gather to collect and direct the products of
combustion up into the flue.

Gather
At present there is no British Standard Specification for gathers to be used with
flexible flue liners. However, it is generally considered good practice to produce
gathers in stainless steel with the angle of the gather being not more than 45
degrees from the vertical.

We spot weld a standard Multiflex MA adaptor to the top of the
gather, but other sizes can be made. MA adaptors for Multiflex

Optional 50mm deep stainless steel mesh welded onto bottom of
gather to assist fixing.

fireplace recess it is necessary to fit a suitable "corrosion resistant metal
plate" in accordance with British Standard 8303 ; Part 3: 1994.
Installers also use a metal plate when a chimney has been fiited with a
flexible flue liner.

Fireplace Trims are an ideal solution to finish off a plain fireplace
opening. You will need to take dimensions for the height and width of
the fireplace opening along with the width of the trim (when looking
directly at the fire) and the return (how far back the trim goes).
Fireplace trims are manufactured in 2mm mild steel and painted to a
matt black finish.

CHIMNEY NOTICE PLATES & CO ALARMS
It is a legal requirement that the installation of a chimney, flue lining and/or a combustion appliance
complies with the Building Regulations. Approved Document J 2010 explains the requirement for
England and Wales. There are separate requirements for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Chimney notice plates –£15 plus VAT for pack of ten including postage

The requirement to provide a Notice plate is described
in the following extract from ADJ 2010.
”1.57 Where a hearth, fireplace, (including a flue box),
flue or chimney is provided or extended (including cases
where a flue is provided as part of the refurbishment
work), information essential to the correct application
and sue of these facilities should be permanently posted
in the building. A way of meeting this requirement
would be to provide a notice plate as shown in Diagram
16 conveying the following information.
The Topstak data plate includes the required details and
is made from metal to comply with the requirement for
a durable plate to be used. It is 110mm x 110mm and
has a matt aluminium finish for writing in the details
with a permanent marker pen.
The installer is considered to be responsible for
providing the completed notice plate and fixing it
next to the chimney or hearth described; or next to the
water supply stop-cock or electricity consumer unit.
Requirements to fit CO Alarms
When installing a solid fuel or wood burning stove it is a
legal requirement to fit a carbon monoxide alarm in the
same room. This is a new requirement in the 2010 ADJ,
which says.
2.36 The carbon monoxide alarm should be located n the
same room as the appliance:
on the ceiling at least 300mm from any wall or, if it is
located on a wall, as high up as possible (above any doors
and windows) but not within 150mm of the ceiling; and
The CO-9X carbon monoxide alarm
b. between 1m and 3m horizontally of the appliance.
It also says the alarm should comply with BS EN 50291
and be mains wired or fitted with a battery designed to
operate for the working life of the alarm.
