THE IBANA TEAM
Christine Gerrits
Marinka Hartog
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘Shopping for my winter
wardrobe!’
What’s your favourite winter
dish?
‘I don’t really like all those classic
winter dishes like mashes, I like
exotic dishes. Ja-maican stew
with chicken, coocut milk and
herbs, just to give a tropical edge
to this cold season!’
Which winter hotspot can not be
missed out on this season?
‘I think we should all go to
Haarlem. I like Fortuyn,
located on Grote Markt, they do
the best cheese platters and
serve really good wine. Should
you be looking for your perfect
Sunday pancake: check Nurks in
de Hout in Haarlem’s city park.’
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Oversized knitwear for a bit of
cocooning. I love the pastel one
we have at IBANA.’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘Versace Christal Noir. It’s a
sweet perfume I usually use at
night.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘It’s hard to choose, but I like The
Nougat, a beautiful lammy coat
for those heavy winter days. I
also like The White Chocolate: a
short, suede skirt with a feminine
lasercut detail.’
10
Tamar van Koolbergen
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘The dark nights. When I come
home to a room filled with candles and the fireplace glowing.
I like having people around for
home dinners and just chat with
everyone for hours.’
Roos Nap
What’s your favourite winter
dish?
‘That’s easy! Classic cheese
fondue or beef wellington.’
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘Ski trips with my friends!’
Which winter hotspots can not
be missed out on this season?
‘Basically every place that has a
fireplace. I’d recommend going
to Amsterdam East. Many places
to discover: de Vergulde Eenhoorn, Louie Louie, restaurant C,
Bukowski…and much more!’
What’s your favourite winter
dish?
‘Definitely a stew with some
beetroot salad.’
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Stylish comfy with a touch of
lace is always a good idea.’
Which winter hotspot can not be
missed out on this season?
‘De Watertoren in Utrecht, it has
an amazing view over the entire
city. Imagine how pretty that is
when the city is covered in snow.’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘I wear the same one throughout
the year. Diptyque…. Do son… the
smell of it makes me happy.’
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Electro furs.’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘Chanel chance.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘Silver linings.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘I love its leather trackpants but
I also like the little black leather
dress and the top. They can be
used for three different events
and moreover: these items are so
easy to combine.’
Favourite winter date?
‘I love going to the beach in
winter! Warm sweater, bit of cold
on your face. Afterwards you just
relax in front of the fireplace with
a glass of wine.’
Nigel Reijnders
Kimberley de Koning
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘I love being able to just lay back
on the couch with a good book
or magazine and a nice cup of
tea… Without having to feel guilty
about it.’
What’s your favourite winter
dish?
‘Homemade soup!
Sweet potato, broccoli, zuchhini,
pumpkin: everything’s possible!
Also: traditional Dutch dishes are
kind of a guilty pleasure.’
Which winter hotspot can not be
missed out on this season?
‘If you’re looking for a nice place
to eat and relax in front of the
fireplace, you have to go to de
Vergulden Eenhoorn. It’s a
unique city farm in Amsterdam.’
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Pink!’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘Molecule 01; no matter the
season.’
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘I don’t really like it, I’m a summer
type of girl.’
How do you escape from winter?
Fly off to somewhere tropical. I
prefer Thailand’s little islands!
What’s your favourite winter dish?
‘I’m not that much someone
who’ll cook extensively – but I do
like homemade pizza.’
Which winter hotspots can not be
missed out on this season?
‘The new A’dam Toren in
Amsterdam North!‘
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Midnight blue Velvet and
metallics.’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘I always use the same one;
Molecule 01. Kimberley and I
always smell the same.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘I love the silver fake lammy coat.
Even when you’re doing wearing
silver, you get to turn it around
and then all of a sudden it’s pink!
I like!’
What do you like best about
winter season?
‘I’m a summer type of person: I
like to have a glass of wine on the
beach. In winter season I long for
summer as I frequently listen to
DJ sets from Ibiza.’
What’s your favourite winter dish?
‘I’m not the best of chefs, so usually my family or friends surprise
me. Beef stews like my grandmother makes them are great! Very
traditional and very winter-like.’
Which winter hotspot can not be
missed out on this season?
‘Anywhere we can go ice skating! I
just love it – especially the mulled
wine with friends afterwards.’
Which winter trend is definitely
your thing?
‘Patches and sequins are an
ongoing thing. I just bought an
amazing pair of patched trousers!’
What’s your winter fragrance?
‘I use heavier perfumes in winter:
Chanel nr5 – a classic - is my alltime favourite.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘If I have to choose, I’d say The
Watermelon: a beautiful leather
parka for all those rainy days.’
What’s your favourite IBANA
FW16 item?
‘The Prime leather trackpants.’

ABOUT IBANA
The IBANA collections are currently sold in over 250
middle- to high-end stores, spread over countries like
The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria. Their
international representation is handled by different
foreign agents. Being the forward brand they are,
IBANA hopes for many more countries to be added to
the above list.
The IBANA
story
Twice a year IBANA launches a new collection: a
Spring/Summer and a Fall/Winter collection. As an
addition to these main collections, IBANA drops a
so-called flash collection every other year. These flash
collections are based on the newest trends of the
moment. During spring as well as fall season, the
team travels to fashion-forward cities like Paris, Milan,
Antwerp, LA and London to gain inspiration.
Throughout these ‘inspiration trips’, a lot of pictures
are taken, brainstorm sessions are held and most of
all: moments are collected.
‘Elegance never fades’ has been IBANA’s philosophy
since 2007. Their vision has lead to assorted
collections involving leather, fake fur and fur items.

INTERVIEW
INTERVIEW
We spoke with
MAKEUP
ARTIST
Xelly
Xelly Cabau van Kasbergen, sister of, is one of the
most popular make-up artists in The Netherlands.
Next to her sister, Yolanthe, Xelly also did make-up for
Sylvie Meis, Kim Feenstra and many more. She was the brain
behind the IBANA Fall/Winter 2016 campaign make-up,
hence we found a moment of time to ask her some questions.
20
Photographer: Otto van den Toorn
Have you always known you wanted to be a make-up artist or has that passion
grown?
‘I had no idea. I come from a big family with a lot of girls. I was the youngest of all
and my older sisters were all very much into make-up. By the time I first encountered
the phenomenon, I didn’t even know you could make a profession out of that. I’ve
always been creative with painting and decorating. At some point I started coming
along to my sister Yolanthe’s jobs, that was the time I rekindled with that feeling from
my youth. That’s when slowly but surely, things got serious.’
Where did you learn everything?
‘I took Dik Peeters’ classes in Amsterdam. First I did studies for make-up, then I
added classes for hair afterwards. I wanted to complete the picture. I loved how I
could work while studying – I’d never imagined this was how things would have
gone!’
What would your profession be if you hadn’t started doing this?
‘My dream always was to become a singer. With some friends I was in a band, all
professional-like with microphones, standards, recording gear and dance routines.
We managed to keep doing this until secondary school but in the end, I chose this
path.’
21
INTERVIEW
What was the best job you’ve done until now?
‘The most special one definitely was when I was in Ibiza with
my sister. She was pregnant and her due date was soon, it just
felt really special to be part of that while my nephew Xess was
in her belly then!’
What do you like best about your job?
‘I like working in a team: you’re in it together looking for the
best images. I find travelling to be very inspiring; I love being in
all kinds of crazy places to discover new cultures and atmospheres. I always try and combine work and travel by adding a
few extra days with my boyfriend.’
Xelly tips
Which make-up item should we all have in our bags?
‘Mascara and blusher! Mascara for your upper lashes and
blusher to give you as fresh look; like you’ve just come back
from a stroll outside. I like it when you look healthy.’
Tip: Blush by Bobby Brown – Pale Pink (very subtle and fresh)
Tip: Straightening iron by Good Hair Day (also works as a
curling iron
Xelly’s favourite things
Who are your regulars?
‘There’s a lot of women, but of course Yolanthe, Sylvie Meis,
Nicolette van Dam, Nicolette Kluiver, Kim Feenstra and Do.’
Who would you like to add to that list?
‘An absolute dream would be to do Beyonce’s make-up. But
if I had to choose within The Netherlands, it’d definitely be
Maxima!’
Do you have a particular signature touch we can recognize
your work with?
‘Tough question. Most of times I work from assignments and
atmospheres created by other people. According to the image
that needs to be created, I’ll work. I guess overall my work can
be defined by ‘softness’. I like to make women look natural but
beautiful.’
Do you ever try out your looks on your own face?
‘Hardly ever, unless it’s something very artsy with a lot of
lines. My inspiration always comes at the moment itself; when
seeing the model’s face.’
Xelly X IBANA
You did hair and make-up for the new IBANA magazine.
How was working for IBANA for you?
‘It was great! I loved how everyone was so sweet and caring on
the set. You can sense that feeling of unity; everyone was in it
for the same cause.’
What kind of hair and make-up did you choose for our model,
Sarah?
‘Because the images were going to be published in black and
white, I chose to put extra emphasis on her face. I did so by
creating shadows and keeping the hair a bit more easy; like
she just woke up.’
Which campaign image is your favourite?
‘My favourite image is the close
up one where the model is
wearing the leather IBANA
Pralines top.’
Beauty product:
Bronzing powder by Mac – Global powder
Is there one particular make-up tip applicable for every
woman?
‘You should buy a skin tone pencil for your water line; everyone
looks better wearing that. It makes you look fresh when you
apply it right above your lower lashes.’
Is there an absolute no-go?
‘There hardly is a time I have seen a black line below your
lower eye-lid and liked it. Sometimes during editorials or
accompanying a smokey eye look, it can be pretty. But doing
that by daylight is not my favourite: it’s too much.’
You’ve released your own book about make-up. Can you give a
brief summary?
‘The philosophy behind it is that everyone’s facial features
are different and you should hence pay close attention to your
individual features. You do the same for your body type when
picking out your outfit. I’m trying to show people how to do the
same for their make-up.’
IBANA implements a lot of leather in their looks. What’s your
make-up advice with that?
‘Your make-up should be a bit softer, although you can use an
eyeliner or a smokey eye. Leather in itself is very rough,
therefore I like to combine it with nude colours on the lips.’
Designers:
I usually get my basics from Zara. The more
special items come from everywhere.
Hotel:
No favourites there: I’d rather spend time with my
boyfriend and family in a mansion all together.
Restaurant:
Sa Punta in Ibiza! Back in Amsterdam I prefer La
Perla for the best pizzas in town.
Last year you did your book release. What’s the next big
event?
‘I’d love to share but I can’t… Let’s just say there’s much more
exciting stuff coming to keep an eye on!’
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
‘To me, love is everything. Work is fun, but I have the love of my
life, Beer M. That to me is everything and the most important
thing! So obviously about 10,100, and countless years.’

Jet’s thoughts on..
INTERVIEW
A passion for food
‘It’s just always been there: growing up as a kid, I’d join my mom in the kitchen. Hands down,
she’s the best cook there is. She always uses fresh ingredients, never uses something prefabricated from a supermarket, cooks different dishes every day. It’s simple, though incredibly good. My
mom tought me how to cook and how to love food. We never refrained from eating certain things,
although we were educated in what was healthy and what was not. The latter lesson is most
important for a healthy body and lifestyle.’
Her first book
‘Recently I’ve published a book on how to live healthily without it getting boring… And without
being too hard on yourself. I find that a lot of people do that: there’s a lot of girls to be seen who
just live on too tight schedules – they’re always in the gym and only eat super healthy foods.
It’s pulled to an extreme and that’s what makes it boring. In my opinion you should be allowed
to have a glass of wine with your friends; you should be able to pull an all-nighter every once in
a while. It’s okay to skip your workout sometimes: that doesn’t mean you no longer are healthy.
In my book, I advise people on eating according to what they’re feeling that day. Having an off
day? Dinner and date? Party bites? Work out meals? Having dinner with a group of friends?
They’re all familiar scenarios, so I wrote matching recipes. In my book I want to show all those
self-criticizing girls that it’s okay to adjust the health bar to a bit of a lower level… And yes, we
can do that without losing our fit and healthy lives and bodies.’
Inspiration
Jet
‘My dear mum and grandmother (my mum’s mother) have inspired me in terms of cooking, but
there’s another person who greatly inspired me: Jamie Oliver. He’s my number one example. The
way he talks about food and how smooth his cooking techniques are… That’s just inspiring. Next
to that he also visits schools to check on cafeteria food: he inspires and educates youngsters on
how to eat healthily. And it’s fun to watch, too! His not too strict and definitely not boring – exactly
how I’d like to see myself.’
Jet van Nieuwkerk
40
‘Sambuca, preferably served in a whiskey glass, decorated with coffee beans. Never served
with ice, though. It’ll undoubtedly make my teeth fall out at some point, but I just can’t resist it.
Regret, however, that’s a thing. It gives me the worst hangovers.’
Photographer: Mark van der Zouw
Jet van Nieuwkerk, online editor at Amayzine, loves food, writing and working
out. Moreover: she recently dropped her first cook book. Jet tells us all about
her passion for a healthy lifestyle, her love for Jamie Oliver and she even gives
us a glimpse of her guilty pleasures. To close, she will share a recipe which is
just ‘typically her’ – mind you, this one will definitely score some points during
Sunday breakfast.
Guilty pleasure
Sports and schedules
‘I work out three to four times a week. I like interchanging, but I’ll definitely schedule a boxing training, do some jogging and spinning. I’ve recently taken up ROCYCLE. That’s a spinning class in a
candle-lit room where they play R&B music. I’m a sucker for top 40 charts music and I really love
Sky Radio.’
41
INTERVIEW
Favourite winter date
‘Going to a beach place. Sounds weird, but beaches covered in snow are amazing.
Tijn Akersloot is opened the entire year and it has a fireplace and a firepit outside. Do
arrange for a designated driver because this definitely goes with a glass of red wine.’
Her job as an editor at Amayzine
‘I’ve worked as a lifestyle and food editor at Amayzine for nearly three years. It’s
a website where everyone can find something that suits their interests. Fashion,
beauty, lifestyle, health, food… I love my job because I can go my own way. I can
write whatever I want: whenever I have a good idea I just pitch it to our editor-inchief, May-Britt, and if she agrees then that’s what we’re going to do. At the end
of the year we’re going to New York for fashion week inspiration. I write about
all healthy hotspots… And I get to try them all. I can think of worse jobs, can you
imagine?’
Future plans
‘For now I’m really busy with my book, Amayzine.com and writing for Het
Parool. I’d like to do Jamie Oliver type of things and make tours. Visit schools, talk
about healthy food and moreover: reach those self-concious, critical girls. They can
use some help realizing that it’s okay to lower expectations of yourself. It’s a thing:
the entire of social media feeds are full of fitgirls and gym rats. There’s more than just
that.’
Dreams
‘Another book? A gigantic kitchen? Cook more? A restaurant? Kids? Marriage?
Dreams aplenty.’
Favourite winter dishes
‘I love comfort food: fish ragout with quinoa or a bean dish for example. I like foods I can eat
by using a spoon only. Rich chicken soup also is a good one. Whatever is warm, goes with
accompanying candle light and sensual music… I really just said that.’
Jet’s kitchen
‘Jet’s kitchen is filled with pots and pans, kitchen tools, machines and an uncountable number
of plates and cups. I often shop for cute little plates or beautiful glasses, it kind of is an addiction. My kitchen is a place I love to be in – I can relax, cook for my friends and lover. It’s a small
space and it may be a bit messy, but I’ve created order in its chaos. I’ve dreamt about having a
huge kitchen… I’ve even made a Pinterest board.’
Favourite winter hotspots
‘I love hotel bars because they make you feel like you’re abroad for a bit. The Dylan in
Amsterdam has a fireplace which is very romantic when it’s cold outside. Get dressed for
a night like that – there’s no such thing as being underdressed. The atmosphere at Dylan’s
has something dark, wintry and mysterious.’
42
This is what you need
for about ten quark balls.
How it’s done
1. Pre-heat the oven on 180 degrees C.
2. Put raisins in warm water for ten minutes.
3. Add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix
then using a spatula and the batter is done.
It’s that easy.
4. Use baking paper in the oven and make ten
balls out of the batter. It’s easiest when you
use two spoons.
250 grams of vanilla quark 1 spoon of bio baking powder
200 grams of raisins
5. Bake for 20 minutes – no longer,
otherwise they’ll be too dry!
2 eggs
pinch of salt
250 grams of oatmeals
1 spoon of olive oil

The perfect outfit
new season, new trends
B
efore this season’s very
special IBANA collection
was out there for you to
see, feel and try on; a long
process preceded. For this
season, I was asked to do the
campaign’s styling. The great thing
about working as a stylist is that you get
to work with a team of passionate
people. In the end, your job is to collaborate with all of them; the photographer,
the make-up artist and all the models;
you join forces for a greater good.
A lot comes together when setting up
a campaign as such: the design team
closely have monitored the latest
international trends; the sales team have
taken care of you being able to wear
these items and not to forget the efforts
of everyone working in marketing and
managing staff. Setting up and
producing collections (and the
campaign that belongs with it) requires
teamwork! All together, we have managed to set up a look and feel, hoping to
inspire again you for this season.
When reviewing the new collection, I
noticed a couple of new trends. I’ve
written them down for you. Last time, I
told you how you could make the most
of your wardrobe; this time I’m telling
you how to coordinate that one perfect
outfit.
THE TRENDS

The eyelet trend!
These tips will allow you to find your
perfect outfit, those days of doubt are
over!
1. Before you start, try and think about
today’s dress code. Are you going off to
work? Do you have any meetings? Will
there be casual drinks or even parties
after?
1. Major laser
Laser-processed leather is something we
see often this season. Look at this little black
dress and its backside detail. This trend also
demands keeping the rest of your look a tad
more minimalistic.
2. Eyelets
A lot of processed leather is out this season.
Adding an eyelet to your leather jacket makes
it a tad more rock ‘n roll. Do try and keep the
rest of your outfit clean and minimalistic. This
should be your key item.
3. Slip dress
Nightwear has become daywear! Another
outing of this statement is our leather slip
dress. Combine this dress with a denim
jacket or a knitted item.
2. Your first step is to find your key item.
For instance: those leather pants. From
there, you will build your outfit.
3. Try and look for surprising combinations. Instead of the look you always pull
off, maybe try that cute little blouse or
jacket you have in the back of your closet.
You’ll see, new insights are awaiting!
4. Mix different styles. Try clashing a bit:
leather pants matched with a silk top, for
instance. Try and find those contrasts.
5. Mix and match different materials and
textures! Add denim to suede or match
leather to lace and knits.
6. Try and preview your outfit by putting it
on the ground or on your bed; it makes it
easy to adjust and add items.
7. Finally, you add shoes and accessories
to finalize the outfit. Personally, I usually
do this when I’m already in my ensemble
of the day.
8. Extra tip. To keep on combining the key
item of your look, try to think about three
different occasions to wear it. How can
you for instance wear those leather pants
to a party? To an informal lunch? Or even
to a business meeting?
