The BCI is an independent statutory organisation
responsible for a number of key areas of activity with
regard to television and radio services in Ireland. The
Commission was established on 1st September 2001.
What do we do?
The work of the BCI is guided by four pieces of
legislation. The key functions of the Commission
relate to the licensing of radio and television services;
administering the Broadcasting Funding Scheme;
ensuring excellence in programme material and in
the broadcasting sector through compliance activity;
providing funding and support for training and
development activity; commissioning and undertaking
research to underpin its statutory functions; and
publishing and disseminating information to
communicate the BCI’s vision for the regulation
and development of the sector.
