Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana Carmel High School Administration Principal’s Welcome Friends and Supporters of the Carmel Greyhounds, Welcome back and good luck for the 2009-10 school year. It is exciting to start a new year that is full of such wonderful potential. We have so many things to be proud of and thankful for. It is great to be a Carmel Greyhound! I am impressed by the support and commitment from the parents and the community. I want to thank you for that support. I know that the coaches and staff appreciate it. John Williams Principal Doug Bird Assistant Principal Karen Campbell Assistant Principal Ronda Eshleman Assistant Principal Kevin Gallman Assistant Principal Dr. John Newton Assistant Principal Sam Ruff Assistant Principal Amy Skeens-Benton Assistant Principal Carmel High School is a great example of the benefits of a strong extracurricular program. It compliments and adds to a strong academic institution. The goal of all schools is to provide that opportunity for students to experience several areas of success. Carmel High School does this as well as anyone. I am proud of the traditions that have been established in our athletic program. I realize how much hard work and dedication go in to building and maintaining that level of success. I am also proud that the commitment to excellence extends throughout the school. Congratulations to all who give their time to this great endeavor. Go Greyhounds! John J. Williams Principal Athletic Director’s Welcome Greyhound Fans, We are pleased you have chosen to spend time with the Greyhound Family! The support that you give our student-athletes is appreciated by everyone in our school community. Last school year was outstanding in so many different areas of the athletic department. The girls’ swimming and diving team added to their long list of accomplishments by setting a national record with their 23rd straight state championship. The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the championship stand in Terre Haute during Head Coach Chuck Koeppen’s final season as the leader of these fine programs. The girls’ tennis team won the state championship in dramatic fashion. Championship runs were also special as the football team reached the title game for the third straight year and the boys’ swimming and diving team added a runner-up finish to their storied history. Our competition cheerleading team also finished second at the state finals. We are very excited for the fall sports season and the great individuals associated with all of our programs. It promises to be a tremendous close to the school year. Academically, CHS student-athletes' grade point averages once again surpassed the grade point average of the student body during the 2008-2009 school year. For those of you who have supported us over the years, please accept our thanks. Your positive support of our student athletes and the coaches who dedicate so much time to achieve team goals is needed every year. Thank you to all of the students, parents, alumni, teachers, and community patrons who make each athletic season a special one for our young people. We look forward to sharing more successes with all of you and welcome you to the Greyhound Family! Our involvement includes the Greyhound Sports Magazine, our continued financial support for CHS radio station WHJE, and the presentation of two athletic scholarships given to the female and male athletes of the year. We also continue to fund Scholar Athlete Night where nearly 400 athletes are recognized for excellence in the classroom. It takes a tremendous effort and commitment from all the members of the Board of Directors to meet these goals. We thank them very much for their willingness to serve. A special thanks, too, to those advertisers who were generous in renewing their ads this year or who are beginning with us as a new advertiser. As you patronize their places of business, don't hesitate to mention that you saw their ad in the Sports Magazine. reetings and welcome to tonight's sporting event. The Booster Club Board of Directors is pleased that you are here and reading a copy of the Greyhound Sports Magazine. G A bit of history about both the Booster Club and this magazine is appropriate especially to keep some of the Carmel sports traditions alive. From a sixteen page handout produced in 1974, the magazine has grown in size and content along with the Carmel athletic program. The magazine format was unveiled in 1977, expanding the coverage beyond just football and basketball. During the 80’s and 90’s, the magazine continued to grow including recognition of many aspects of the Greyhound athletic program. Today, the magazine is unquestionably the finest high school sports publication in the state. Thanks to the advertisers listed at the back of the magazine and to those of you who generously support Carmel athletics as Patrons, we are able to bring you today's program at no cost. Over 18,000 copies are distributed at home football and basketball contests plus 1,000 copies of an abbreviated spring book, showcasing the achievements of the 1,100 boys and girls that participate each year in Carmel athletics. So, Carmel sports fans and visiting guests, read on! Help us keep the tradition alive and vibrant...a tradition that has brought Carmel High School to the pinnacle of high schools sports programs. Advertisers Index Please support our sports magazine advertisers! The Greyhound Sports Magazine is financed solely through its advertisements.
