Ruwwad for Development <[email protected]> [Test] Newsletter – Second Half of 2013 January 8, 2014 10:34 AM The 3rd Ruwwad for Development Day “Byout Ahalina” – June 1st Friends of Ruwwad have celebrated Ruwwad Day by bringing together artists, business and social entrepreneurs and our fellow citizens in Jabal Al-Natheef. The day started with a gathering of all invitees in “Al Hayna” garden neighboring Ruwwad headquarters, followed by home visits to families of Ruwwad’s employees. Home visits were an opportunity to establish hearing and dialogue circles that focused on discussing the challenges that we face as citizens and families in such times, where there’s hope but also a need for intensified efforts, tighter social ties and the will to work. Click here to read the press release in Al Ghad newspaper Summit of all Summits Day, Safe Homes Campaign – September 28th The Safe Homes campaign celebration presented the path undertaken by team members throughout the 18 months period. The event showcased the journey that allowed 165 homes to secure protection against physical abuse targeted at children, by promoting awareness, learning, accountability, intervention and social work. Alongside neighboring school teachers and principals, local residents and leaders of Jabal Al-Natheef have participated in the resource taskforce for the Safe Homes campaign, in addition to the Ruwwad family and supporters. Click here to watch video Click here to read the press release in Al Ghad newspaper Graduation of the 8th batch of students of the Mousab Khorma Youth Education Fund The graduation day of the 8th batch of students of Mousab Khorma Youth Fund was a celebration of community service and volunteerism, as well as a tribute to 32 students who engaged throughout the period of their scholarship in community work. On the graduation day, 26 young men and women were honored for their relentless volunteering. This year, 214 young men and women have benefited from the scholarships in Amman, Al Bayda near Petra and Tafilah. Upon completing my exams, I headed to the Royal Academy for Culinary Arts and asked about the measures, details and payments and found out that the biggest problem is that fees were too expensive. I knew I could apply for a scholarship at Ruwwad for Development and I participated in their activities, but I was afraid that as a foundation they would reject my application for culinary studies with such burdensome fees”. Click here to watch video Click here to read the press release in Al Ghad newspaper Ayman Kanaan Participates in a Cultural Evening in the Baccalaureate School – August 8th The young Ayman Kanaan, a talented student with special needs working in Bayt Silsal - Ruwwad for Development, participated in an evening of arts with the artist Zayn Awad in the Baccalaureate School. Ayman, referring to himself as an artist, has been gifted with a wonderful voice and a unique artistic talent. Ayman sold all of his paintings that were greatly admired by the attendees. Summer Camp in Jabal Al-Natheef - June 16th – July 7th 350 kids in total have enjoyed the summer club at Jabal Al-Natheef this year. Participants were allocated to three taskforces to participate in different clubs that each lasted for three weeks and scheduled at various times. The activities of the club were diversified and included various kids’ development elements such as creative arts and sciences as well sports, kids’ literature, entertainment trips and mothers’ participation. Summer Camp in Al Bayda – June 16th – July 7th In the spirit of Shams AlBayda’s Library summer events, the first summer camp was organized this year. With 50 enrolled boys and girls, the summer camp had various activities related to children literature, story reading and interpreting, sport games and physical fitness that were designed to integrate girls for the first time in addition to arts and computer workshops and soccer and physical fitness for boys. The summer camp was concluded by a social festival attended by the parents of the participating kids, the local community, partners of Al Ammarin Association and the mayor of Bayda. Children Literacy Program in Al Bayda Efforts remain ongoing to teach 17 kids to read and write within the frame of a program executed by Ruwwad in cooperation with the boys’ school in Al Bayda that has 33 students. The Sports Program in Jabal Al-Natheef One of the scholarship beneficiaries has contributed in the expansion of the girls’ sports activities that included 70 participants. Ranks and championships include: 1. Amman International Marathon, where Sama Aarmoush (13 years) and Hoda Aqrabawi (12 years) won the second and third places respectively 2. The Red Sea Marathon (Al Aaqaba) where Sama Aarmoush won second place for the 4km track for females and Ahmad Kafaween (12 years old) won the third place for the same category dedicated for boys. 3. The taekwondo championship, where Hamza Abu Tayeh won first place Sports Program in Al Bayda A Sports Day was organized where 50 boys and girls participated enthusiastically in activities including soccer, marathon, taekwondo, telematch and physical fitness for girls. Color Your Voice Summer Club – June/July In the second quarter of the year, the psychological-social support club “color your voice” was launched as an important element to launch expressive and creative energies. The club activities covered arts and sports for the youth during summertime. The club lasted for three weeks, during which 40 young boys and girls participated in various activities facilitated by 26 volunteers. Ramadan Charity Packages Campaign – July/August As part of Jeeran Station’s support for more than 200 families in Jabal Al NAtheef, 274 packages of staple foods were distributed during the month of Ramadan. My Life Spectacle” in Cooperation with Our Lives for the Music Initiative –“ October/November The final festival for the project of “Our Lives” was held at the Terra Santa Faculty theatre for a period of two months with 22 participating young boys and girls. The event aimed at finding a space for free expression, enabling young people to express their stories and social cases through rap and drama. The spectacle featured a play and a selection of rap songs made by the beneficiaries who also practiced their interpretation. Student Preparation for Ruwwad Scholarship - Mousab Khorma Scholarships Fund - September With 45 new students attending the session, the preparation, planning and work allocation has occurred in stages prior to engaging students in the painting of school walls. During the preparation session, the difference between volunteering and community service was explained and Ruwwad Programs were presented. Two neighboring and partner schools have benefited from the session, Omar Al Barghouthy School and Aatika Bint Zayd School, both of which are elementary schools that host around 1000 boys and girls. Weekly Chats – Every Saturday Our chats are currently focused on the concept of others and relationships with others where students are put face to face with what is described the other by the standards of society, religion, politics, gender and ideology. This is aimed at allowing students discover the similarities and differences with the so called other. Our chats also encompassed subjects on the philosophy of similarity, difference, stereotypes and prejudice. As part of our sessions, we have watched the Iranian movie “Color of Paradise” and hosted the campaign “It’s About Time” along with Professor Mouneer Fasha. Aima Children Summer Camp - June A children summer camp was organized with a main theme “Myself and I” for the Aima village for a period of 5 days. The camp was successful and had over 75 boys and girls aged between 9 and 12 participating alongside 16 students from Al Tafilah Ruwwad for Development scholarship in key workshops on drama, arts, collage, music and telematch. Social Leader Program – Injaz Rahaf Abdallah and Abdallah Abu Fins were part of the youth empowerment team that is part of the Social Leader Program with Injaz. Platform Initiative A youth initiative aimed at training youth between the ages of 14 and 16 on debating skills to allow them to express their opinions freely and formally without coercion and violence. The program aims at promoting critical thinking, teamwork efforts and self-confidence. Habka Initiative A youth initiative aimed at using theatrical and drama skills as a tool to empower the youth in East Amman and promoting competencies relevant to innovative and critical thinking as a means of learning and teaching. Participation in a program for the promotion of human rights, and democratic contribution in the MENA region, in cooperation with Equatus and Anhur Network Abdallah Al Barghouty participated in an empowerment workshop, undergoing training for mentoring trainers in Morocco, to enhance his knowledge on the principles and mechanisms on human rights (relevant to the periodic comprehensive review) and promote his skills on launching youth initiatives and the support of human right affairs. Ruwwad for Development Training in Tripoli – Lebanon Samar Dudin, Ruwwad’s Regional Director and Program Manager, visited Ruwwad members in Tripoli with the aim to empower and strengthen the skills of the working group. During the visit, attendees discussed the methodology and the culture of Ruwwad to acquire further understanding, and have also reviewed their achievements, challenges and success stories. Fadi Ghandour attends the opening of Ruwwad headquarters in the underprivileged village of Ezbet Khairallah - Cairo Chairman and Founder of Ruwwad for Development, Fadi Ghandour, met with the young team that has established the facilities and the volunteering activities for the neighborhood children. The meeting was focused on the role of the youth in gathering fellow volunteers for the development of the center’s work mechanism. Sustainability Team – Aramex meeting, Libya Following an extensive dialogue and a meeting between the Aramex team in Libya and Samar Dudin, the Aramex team appointed the Libyan activist Faten Baabaa as Head of Sustainability Sector at Aramex Libya. Faten visited the Ruwwad team in August to familiarize with its model, and visited Shams El Jabal Library, Bayt Silsal and Zawayed. As part of her tour, Faten also attended other sports events held by Ruwwad as well as sessions from the Safe Homes and 6 Minutes Reading campaigns.
