COMMUNITY PROFILE
V
rIVERSIDE pARK
anderhoof sits at the geographical center of BC, nestled in the Fertile Nechako
Valley which is surrounded by the scenic Sinkut, Blue and Pitka Mountains. The
approximately 4600 residents of Vanderhoof enjoy the lifestyle of a rural setting and
traditional values and have easy access to the amenities of the surrounding area.
Outdoor Recreational opportunities abound, as we have numerous lakes and rivers
for canoeing, boating, watersports and fishing. The Nechako River runs through
Vanderhoof and each spring and fall thousands of Canada Geese stop at our Migratory
Bird Sanctuary which is located along the Pacific Flyway. Forest Service Campsites,
backcountry lodges, provincial parks and hundreds of miles of trail systems attract
outdoor enthusiasts from all corners of the world who come to experience our
abundance of wildlife, spectacular waterways and wild, open spaces. We have a
myriad of sports, equestrian and recreational facilities. Murray Ridge (Fort St. James)
offers uncrowded downhill skiing on groomed and off-piste runs with a vertical drop
of 1,750 feet. From biathlon to classic cross country skiing, the Nechako Valley
Sporting Association hosts Provincial Competitions and has raised world class
athletes. Vanderhoof has produced two Olympians: Eddie Lebler (Austrian Hockey
Team) and Tuppy Collard (Biathlon, Nagano 1998).
Vanderhoof boasts a rich and varied cultural history from the Rich Hobson and Pan
Phillips Legacy to Mary John Senior, an Order of Canada recipient and Author.
Our vibrant art scene includes local performers Karen Cruise and Marcel Gagnon,
and artist Annerose Georgeson. The Nechako Valley Arts Council actively seeks first
class Canadian acts and offers an attractive line up of International and Canadian
Films. From dance to pottery to music, our community arts and recreation groups
will fuel your creative spirit.
Come and join us for our Annual Parade of Lights, Pumpkin Walk or Nechako Valley
WinterFest. Experience our warm welcome and personal, friendly service.
Vanderhoof…a great place to live, work and play!
