Unofficial gateway to The Cotswolds, the picturesque village belies its rich historical past. Kempsford’s ancient name was Kynemereforde, meaning ‘The Ford of the Great Marsh’ and the infant Thames was used as the old boundary between Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. It’s claimed that over the medieval period, some of the most famous names in English history worshipped at Kempsford’s St Mary’s church. Amongst them: Chaucer, Edward I and II, Henry IV and John of Gaunt’s wife Constance, daughter of the king of Spain. Although the royal link is a thing of the past, St Mary’s church still proudly stands, with its recently-restored carved and painted ceiling. The George pub is a popular place to dine and enjoy a drink in Kempsford and the market town of Fairford is just over three miles away with its wide choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants and a charming old hotel. In this picturesque market town you’ll also find a range of boutique shops, high street stores and a wide range of facilities including a pre-school, primary school, secondary school, doctor’s surgery, two dentists, a library, sports hall and a community centre – everything you need for day-to-day living. Families moving to Kempsford will be glad to know that the village has its own preschool and primary school. Nearby, Fairford also has a primary school and Farmor’s, secondary school with a well-regarded Sixth Form. Slightly further afield, Cirencester and Swindon have a wide choice of colleges and further education. Lots to do in the local area You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful walks surrounding Kempsford. And just over 6 miles away, the Cotswold Water Park has a network of walks and cycle paths around many of its 150 lakes, as well as a wide range of fun things to do for all the family. Fairford Park also enjoys a vast range of activities including a summer festival, an annual Steam Rally and The Royal International Air Tattoo – the world’s largest military airshow. Surrounded by picturesque Cotswold countryside, this unique development is in a sought-after setting and benefits from key town links. The Willows will be a fantastic place to call home. Easy transport links Approximate travel distance to: Conveniently located between Cirencester and Swindon, Kempsford enjoys excellent road links with Swindon train station just over 11 miles away.
