The helmet creation process is very hands on. After initial sketches, we create 3D models,
first with foam “eggs,” then full size models like the one shown here.
The graphics process starts with a flat design – either hand-sketched or rendered on the
computer – and then plotted on a grid for scale.

Our commitment to research,
development and testing is truly unrivaled.
Giro, based in the action sports wonderland of Santa
Cruz, California, benefits from being surrounded by
world-class recreational resources. Endless singletrack
trails and some of the best surf in America are right
outside our front door and the Tahoe ski resorts just a
short drive away. In our headquarters we have a test
lab—what we call “the Dome”—with more than 50
testing fixtures, several 3D printers, goggle testing
equipment, prototype machines, and an in-house wind
tunnel. We even have a proprietary heat-sensing head
form that we call the Therminator used to validate vent
locations and test cooling power.
In addition to an industry-leading test lab, we benefit
from a staff that’s purely focused on advanced
concepts. This staff isn’t working on designing next
year’s product line—or even the following year—
our advanced concepts group is focused on the future
of helmet technology. This group has very few timelines
and almost no guidelines, they’re committed to always
looking ahead, always advancing things and always
trying to make a better helmet. We at Giro are never
satisfied, we are always trying to get better, we are
always striving to improve, we are innovators always
looking ahead.
Our commitment to research, development and testing
is truly unrivaled, but it’s the ride that motivates us
to spend long hours in the test lab. It’s our mantra—
Science and Soul. At the heart of the Giro brand is
science, but ultimately enhancing your ride (and,
selfishly, our own) is our greatest motivator. And
without our world-class resources our new ideas
would never come to life.

HELMET TECHNOLOGY KEY
MIPS – MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM MIPS is a step forward in helmet design
and can provide more protection in certain impacts. There are three main components to a MIPS-equipped
helmet: the Interior Foam Liner, the Low Friction Liner and an elastomeric attachment system between
them. In an angled impact, the elastomeric attachment system stretches to allow the foam liner to rotate
independently around your head. The goal of this technology is to further reduce rotational forces.
CONFORM FIT TECHNOLOGY The fully integrated Conform Fit System utilizes a two-piece shell that
literally forms to the rider’s head shape by expanding and contracting with the turn of a dial. A truly
adaptive design, it features a durable yet semi-flexible EPP construction that provides the lowest-profile
fit we’ve ever created and unsurpassed custom comfort.
HYBRID CONSTRUCTION Hybrid Construction merges a durable ventilated Hard Shell upper with an
In-Mold Construction lower shell plus sidewalls for added protection and style. With Hybrid Construction
the helmet is beefed up for added durability–while remaining lightweight. Hybrid Construction also
features an impact absorbing and lightweight EPS foam liner.
IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION In-Mold Construction fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the
helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. The fusion process allows for better ventilation systems,
making In-Mold helmets lighter and cooler than traditional helmets.
SOFT SHELL CONSTRUCTION Soft Shell Construction combines a patent-pending, impact-absorbing
liner made with Vinyl Nitrile (VN) and a unique flexible proprietary outer shell material for a durable
and comfortable fit. This combination results in a helmet versatile enough to manage both highand low-energy impacts.
IN FORM™ FIT SYSTEM The In Form Fit System makes it easy to dial in a custom fit in seconds—
even with gloves on. An ergo-friendly dial at the base of the helmet provides up to 6cm of adjustment
and enhanced stability. The Vertical Tuning feature accommodates different goggles and head shapes
for a custom fit free of gaper gap.
AUTO LOC™ 2 FIT SYSTEM Auto Loc 2 is a durable self-adjusting fit system designed to take the
hassle out of fitting a helmet. A supple elastic fit band at the back of the helmet merges with fixedposition straps, which adjust to cradle your head when you set the system to one of the three different
circumference settings. The new Vertical Tuning feature helps to dial in your fit and goggle set up.
FIDLOCK® MAGNETIC BUCKLE CLOSURE The pinch-free, one-handed Fidlock® Magnetic
Snap helmet buckle combines the advantages of two fastening concepts in a completely new
way. Strong magnets make it easy to open and close, while a secure snap functionality ensures
a continuous locking force.
THERMOSTAT CONTROL™ Thermostat Control Adjustable Venting control allows you to custom tune
airflow instantly with a simple, low profile control button on the outside of the helmet. No other system
is faster or easier to adjust, and nothing is more effective at keeping you comfortable.
STACK VENT™ Our Stack Vent was developed based on research showing the majority of the warm
air that can cause fogging exhausts from the center top vent of the goggle. Aligning the Stack Vent in
the helmet with the vent of your goggles helps to keep them clear and fog free.

SNAPSHOT - MAGNETIC INTERCHANGE LENS SYSTEM
Our new SNAPSHOT – Lens Interchange System utilizes selflocating rare earth magnets and a secure locking mechanism
for fast, on-the-fly (or on the chairlift) virtually effortless lens
interchange. Upon contact with the frame, the lens simply
snaps into place and then locks down securely. When the
clouds roll in simply depress the shutter button, release the
lens and insert the lens of your choice.
EXPANSION VIEW TECHNOLOGY
Developed and perfected at the DOME, our R&D center in
Santa Cruz, California, Giro’s groundbreaking Expansion
View Technology (EXV) is a new frame design that creates
an unparalleled field of view. We started with a helmetcompatible goggle design and then eliminated and tapered
