Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. Military/Civilian Base INTRO-Program Monday, April 4,12 p.m. - 4 p.m. (Be seated by 11:45 a.m.) Bldg. 270 Daedalian Room During this monthly program, speakers from different units on base welcome and inform newcomers of the unique aspects of LAAFB and the Los Angeles area. 14 Transition GPS April 11-15, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Location: C2-201 Transition GPS is mandatory for all separating and retiring military members. The five-day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search, plus VA benefits. Pre-separation counseling is mandatory before attending Transition GPS. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend. Operation Megaphone Lock-In Friday April 29 - Saturday April 30 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Location: Edwards AFB Ages: 13-18 years old Fee: $20.00 • Registration Deadline: April 27 Operation Megaphone is an overnight event at Edwards AFB where youth are given the opportunity to showcase their team building skills. We will meet other youth from Vandenberg, Beale, Travis, and Nellis Air Force Bases. Come prepared for an overnight stay and to participate in tons of activities such as workshops, basketball, roller skating, bowling and outside scavenger hunt. Clubs, Activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program. 24 Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18) This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $25 per year Transportation Program (Ages 9-18) Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately. Youth use various mediums to create one of a kind art creations and are encouraged to work toward entering their work into the Air Force Fine Arts competitions and exhibits. Fitness activities encourage youth to get out and have fun in the sun. Cooking teaches youth how to make healthy meals that can be shared at home. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines.
