Besides, the annual teacher advisors dialogue was held on 12 August 2015 at Armada Hotel, PJ. We had 6 out of 7 Interactor Schools’s teacher advisors represented at the meeting. It was a fruitful meeting. Our visit to Rotary Club of Makati West over the weekend was an eye opener especially to the new rotarians and 3 rotaractors who joined us for the visit. It was a new found experience for our sisters club in Makati to know we had so many young rotarians. We take it as compliments : ) Teacher Advisors Dialogue with RCPJ 12 August 2015. It was a good turn-out for this year Teacher Advisors Dialogue. Meeting was chaired by Rtn Pua and Hon Sec Victor Lee. We have taken note on the following as highlighted by teacher advisors: District Certificate must have the District’s seal. I have checked with District Secretary and yes, we have District’s seal. Director PP Chris to ensure all certificates for district level must be sealed with District seal. Permission Letter to school Principal in request for the release of interactors for their visit to others Interactors’ school events must be forwarded to School Principal at least a week before the event to avoid disappointment. Director of Youth and ICC council must take note on this and cascade this information to all President of the Clubs as the letter usually prepared by President/Secretary of the Club. VP Alice also share on the new program for our Interactors schools – on International Day of the Girl Child to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges that girls face around the world. A program by “Protect and Save the Children”. The objective of the program is to empowering the Girl children towards self protection from abuse and exploitation through Rights based education programs and to empower girls as ambassadors of Girl child rights in Malaysia. Our target is to train 750 girl students by 11 October 2015. There is another new program call Child Advocator, VP Alice will update us in due course. We also shared with the school on this year RCPJ school tuition support for our 6 Public Interactors Schools. Each school is allocated RM300 monthly for tuition support of underprivileged form 5 students in 2016. Our aim is to help them through and get a good grade for their SPM results. All teachers are very excited on these new initiative and programs for the year. Let’s make this all happened and we need support from all Rotarians. SMK (P) Sri Aman Installation – 13 August, 2015 SMK Assunta Installation – 14 August, 2015 SMK (L) Bukit Bintang – 15 August 2015 Thanks VP Alice and PE Siti who stand in for me to attend the event while I am away in Makati attending the RC Makati West Installation. Just like us in thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 2 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 Rotary, our Interactors also do it just in style and good proper for their new Board Installation – Well done to President of the 3 Interactor Clubs. We have one more school to attend – SMK Sultan Abdul Samad on next Thursday for the final Installation of Interactors clubs for RY2015/2016. RC Makati West Installation 13-16 August 2015. A total of 18 members from RCPJ including 3 Rotaractors attended the event. As shared earlier, it was an eye opener for all new rotarians, not to mention the Rotaractors. RC Makati West is well known for their warm hospitality. Upon arrival, we were heading for lunch hosted by Ann Cathy at her lovely residence. Ann Cathy and her husband Rtn Joselu was our guest on their visit to RCPJ 2 years back. Sadly, Rtn Joselu passed away early this year. As Rtn Joselu had so much happy memory during his stay with us, his lovely wife Cathy has insisted to host us when we re-visit Makati. We thank you Ann Cathy for her warm hospitality and the special arranged local specialty for our lunch. It was so thoughtful of her. For dinner, we had the privilege to dine at the gorgeous mansion of Rtn Ramesh and Ann Geeta. Rtn Ramesh is in the Optical Wholesale Distribution for the sunglasses Oakley in Philippines. My classmate Junvee and first lady Julienne were present for the dinner and I believe all of us had a great time of fellowship. I shall skip on the day of our visit to Taal and let the picture do the talking. For the night on Installation, it was held at Fairmont Ballroom. The RI PE John Germ was the keynote speaker. The event starts promptly at 7pm with event proper and end with a big bang on their very own Musical presentation. It was an amazing show which involved the BOD, the 17 of their 21 new members for last rotary year, and end with group dancing by the children of the Rotarians. A totally enjoyment and everyone is giving a “Wow” and thumb up for their amazing performance. Guess what, to ensure a great performance for the night, all 40 cast members had spent 2 months practicing the show, and 2 weeks (everyday) practice until the actual event on Saturday. The commitment level is commendable ! I salute all the cast members ! I will not able to write the whole journey of our trip, but I must take this column to thanks members who have help to make this trip a memorable one for all. Thanks for PDG David Ho for coordinating our visit to RC Makati West even though he is not attending. Thanks to all 18 members and family members joining me for this trip. From RC Makati West, a BIG THANK YOU to Eric Tensuan, PP Tony Lopez, President Junvee, Nory, PE Ruy, IPP AP and all our friends from RC Makati West for hosting us. It was an experience for us to taste the real hospitality of Philippines. Next Tuesday Meeting on 25 August (Tuesday) This is our evening meeting – it also double up as the attendance challenge rewards dinner for the winning team. Dinner will be held at a really authentiVc Nyonya restaurant at Sri Nyonya at Jalan 22/49, same row with Sri Aman school. We would like to have our spouses to join us for night of fellowship. Price for the dinner is at RM45 for guests and spouse. This restaurant has been featured on newspaper. Do join us and see you all next Tuesday at 7.30pm. Sincerely, Rianne Chin Chin Wai Yee, Rianne President, Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 3 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE CHAIR’S MESSAGE DEAR ROTARIANS: The Rotary Foundation has traditionally used a few annual goals to guide its planning for the next Rotary year. However, there is a more comprehensive plan in place for the current Rotary year. At their October 2014 meeting, the Trustees utilized the spirit of the RI strategic plan by approving four priorities to stay in place for the next three years: 1. End polio, now and forever. 2. Strengthen Rotarians’ knowledge, engagement, and financial support of The Rotary Foundation. 3. Increase the quality and impact of Rotary’s humanitarian service effort through Foundation grants and the six areas of focus. 4. Enhance the image and awareness of the Foundation’s record of achievements, particularly the success of PolioPlus and its 100-year record of doing good in the world. In addition to the agreed four priorities for the next three years, the Trustees also approved four measurable goals for each of the priorities. Therefore, we now have 16 measurable goals to guide our efforts. The goals can be changed each year as progress is made on achievement of the priorities, but for the current year our course is set – and for the first time, it is measurable! thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 4 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 I will be sharing some of the goals with you in future editions, but it is worth noting that the advent of measurable goals for the Foundation came at a propitious time. RI President K.R. Ravindran is a proponent of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the work of Rotarians in leadership positions, and the new measurable goals made it much easier to develop some KPIs for our regional Rotary Foundation coordinators and endowment/major gift advisers. The KPIs are still an experiment, and they will need refinement and development, but they are a step in the right direction as we try to take a longer look ahead each year! Sincerely, Ray Ray Klinginsmith Trustee Chair 2015 - 16 thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 5 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 ROTARY DISTRICT 3300 MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR DEAR FELLOW ROTARIANS, This month mark the second month of the Rotary Year “Be a Gift to the World”. 100 years ago, RI President Allen D. Albert (RY1915-16), said…. “Rotary will live through the individual lives of Rotarians. Sound business success is to be gained in the open highways of service through one’s business, not through the alleys and purlieus of an unearned patronage. The test of a man’s idealism is his sincerity. Rotary will have useful life only as it stirs its members to express their professions of idealism in their daily lives.” This is indeed the path of a Rotarian. August being Membership Month, we invite other business and community leaders to join us. It is our sincerity to share our Rotary ideals that will open doors to others who wants to be with us. Having visited 10 Clubs so far in our District, it is overwhelming to see Clubs inducting members during my visits and also at their installations. While growth is necessary to strengthen our clubs, it is equally important that we focus on retention. Our first service is CLUB thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 6 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 SERVICE and CLUB SERVICE is service to our club and caring for our members. Motivating and inspiring members by club leaders through fellowship and engagement in projects support retention efforts. Let’s continue enjoying Rotary and sharing the good work we all do. Thank you Warm regards, Siti PP Siti Subaidah Rotary Club of Central Damansara District Governor RY2015-16 RI 3300, Malaysia. thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 7 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 PRESIDENTIAL THEME BE A GIFT TO THE WORLD THE STORY BEHIND THE THEME Our time on this earth is finite, and it’s always shorter than we think. How do we want to spend it? Will we give of ourselves to others, so that the world will be richer because we passed through it? Or will we spend our days, as the famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore wrote, in stringing and unstringing our instruments, while the song we came to sing remains unsung? The glory of Rotary is that it helps us find a way to sing that song. It guides us on a path to living richer, more meaningful lives, by encouraging us to focus our attention on the things that matter — and helping each of us find our own way to be a gift to the world. Dave Buck, Rotary Club of Downtown Waterloo, Iowa, USA If we ask ourselves what characteristics we value most in our friends, most of us would answer similarly: integrity, trustworthiness, caring, compatibility. Our friends are not necessarily the people who are most like us but the ones who complement us, who bring out the best in us. That, to me, is precisely what we can find in Rotary. Rotary is a way to bring out the best part of ourselves, and let it guide our lives. Too often, we spend our days in pursuit of the goals that should matter least. We focus our attention on our own achievements and our own gain; we devote endless energy to the accumulation of material things. Yet at the end of our lives, no one will remember us for the cars we drove, the clothes we wore, the titles we carried, or the offices we sat in. We will not be admired for the efforts we poured into making our own lives richer or our own status higher. In the end, our worth thePeejayPost www.rotarypj.com page 8 of 23 20August2015 Issue7,RY2015-2016 will be measured not by how much we acquired, but by how much we gave away. Will we avert our eyes from suffering, or will we alleviate it? Will we speak words of compassion, or will we act on them? Will we be content only to take from the world — or will we give to it? In the 2015-16 Rotary year, our theme will be Be a Gift to the World. Every one of us has something to give — whoever we are, whatever our place in life. We can give our talent, our knowledge, our abilities, and our effort; we can give our dedication and our devotion. Through Rotary, we can take these gifts and make a genuine difference in the lives of others and in our world. It is said that we are born with our fists clenched, but we die with our hands open, and that our talents are the gift that God gave us. What we make of our talents is our gift back to God. Equally we come into this world grasping at everything, but when we leave it, we leave all material things behind as well. Through Rotary, we can leave behind something real and lasting. Our time is now. It will never come again. Be a Gift to the World. Sincerely, K.R.
