(1) Either RGB (SCART) or Component output? (2) Either Composite or SDI output The jumpers are usually pre-configured by the retailer of your board, so you may skip this chapter. By default: (1) HOLO3DGRAPH products shipped to North America are generally pre-configured for Component and SDI output. (2) HOLO3DGRAPH products shipped to Europe are generally pre-configured for RGB (SCART) and SDI output. This Chapter contains the jumper configuration procedure for the Immersive Inc. HOLO3DGRAPH I and II board, if you want to verify the jumpers or change output configuration. 5 1.1 Grounding Safety Precaution Before beginning, make sure you ground yourself to get rid of static electricity. Otherwise, the HOLO3DGRAPH I/II board can be damaged by static electricity! A grounding strap can be worn. Alternatively, grounding can be accomplished by touching the metal at the rear of your computer while it is operating, before you turn off the computer. Ground yourself again if you did any movement, especially if you walked across a carpet. 1.2 Find The Location Of Jumpers The jumpers are located behind the BNC jack on the HOLO3DGRAPH I/II board. (Six pins in the middle of green rectangle below) 6 1.3 Configure The Jumpers This jumper configuration works on these boards: HOLO3DGRAPH-II boards, any REV number. HOLO3DGRAPH-I boards, labeled ‘REV 7’ Pick one of the following three jumper configurations. Then move the two jumpers to match the pictured jumper configuration. (1) (2) (3) SDI Component S-Video RGB (SCART) S-Video Composite Component S-Video Note of Special Exception If you have a HOLO3DGRAPH I original model, make sure it is labeled ‘REV 7’ on the board right behind the RCA jacks. If you have an older board with a REV number of 3, 4 or 5, or has no number, then the jumper configuration is different. Please refer to Section 1.4 on the next page for alternate jumper configuration. 7 1.4 Alternate Jumper Configuration For HOLO3DGRAPH-I Original Cards Of REV 3, 4 and 5. This alternate jumper configuration works only on this board: Older HOLO3DGRAPH-I original boards, REV numbers 3, 4 and 5 only. Pick one of the following three jumper configurations. Then move the jumpers to match the pictured jumper configuration. (1) (2) SDI Component S-Video Composite Component S-Video Note The HOLO3DGRAPH I original model of REV numbers 3, 4, or 5, do not support RGB/SCART operation without an upgrade add-on. 8 Chapter 2: Installing The HOLO3DGRAPH Board This Chapter contains the installation procedure for the Immersive Inc. At this stage, you are now ready to proceed to booting your computer. Proceed to CHAPTER 4 for driver/software installation instructions. 14 Chapter 3: Installing The HOLO3DGRAPH II with the HD-Aux This Chapter contains the installation procedure for the Immersive Inc. HOLO3DGRAPH II board with the HD-Aux daughterboard add-on. Note: If you do not have an HD-Aux, please skip this chapter and go back to CHAPTER 2 15 3.1 Checklist Of Requirements For Install 1. HOLO3DGRAPH II Board 3. Two Wide Ribbon Cables (60-Pin) 2. HD-Aux Daughterboard 4. One Coaxial Ribbon Cable (Narrow) 5. Philips Screwdriver (Not Included) 16 3.2 Note About Ribbon Cables The brand new HOLO3DGRAPH II board is based on the excellent design of the HOLO3DGRAPH I board. Much of the existing design of the HOLO3DGRAPH I original board was leveraged. Therefore, it was necessary to put the HDTV functionality on a separate HD-Aux board. As a result, the complexity of the HD-Aux design requires a large number of ribbon cable connections between the two boards. This chapter aims to simplify the ribbon cable assembly procedure with easy-tofollow steps. CAUTION! The ribbon cable connectors require extra pressure to connect. Be extremely careful when attaching ribbon cables in order to avoid breakage. Please follow the instructions in this chapter very carefully to connect the cables. The ribbon cables are extremely difficult to remove and can easily damage the HOLO3DGRAPH II board. 3.3 Grounding Safety Precaution Before beginning, make sure you ground yourself to get rid of static electricity. Otherwise, the HOLO3DGRAPH II board can be damaged by static electricity! A grounding strap can be worn. Alternatively, grounding can be accomplished by touching the metal at the rear of your computer while it is operating, before you turn off the computer. Ground yourself again if you did any movement, especially if you walked across a carpet. Keep the HOLO3DGRAPH II board and the HD-Aux board in an antistatic bag until you are ready to install the board. Always put the boards inside their own antistatic bags before transporting them. 17 3.4 Install The Coaxial Ribbon Cable The first step is to carefully install the Coaxial Ribbon Cable onto the HD-Aux daughterboard. One end of the Coaxial Ribbon Cable has separated wires (shredded wires). Line up this end of the Ribbon Cable onto the pins this board, indicated by a green rectangle in the photo below. Keep the red wire facing the jacks on the left. The ribbon cable connector on the HD-Aux is near the bottom edge, as indicated by green rectangle below. 18 3.4 Continued… Due to the late availability of Coaxial Ribbon Cables, the connectors may be bigger than the space for the connection on the HD-Aux. You may need to bend two metal cylinders (capacitors) slightly out of the way in order to fit the Cable. First, gently press one side of the cable connector onto the pins, to gently nudge the metal cylinder outwards slightly (as indicated by green arrow in below photo). Then unplug the cable and then gently press the opposite side of the connector to gently nudge the other cylinder. Then you can plug in the whole connector. 19 3.5 Install The First Wide Ribbon Cable There are two wide ribbon cables included with the HD-Aux. The ribbons may already be pre-installed on the HD-Aux. If this is the case, please skip this section and go straight to Section 3.9. The first wide ribbon cable is the one without the resistor. (plain ribbon cable without a small colored bump in the middle of the ribbon). Connect the plain ribbon cable to the outermost 60-pin header on the HD-Aux board, as indicated by the green rectangle in the picture. Make sure the red wire is facing towards the bottom. Press the connector onto the header carefully– it may require some pressure. Upon connection of the cable, the end result should now look like this: 20 3.6 Fold The First Ribbon Cable Position your HOLO3DGRAPH II and your HD-Aux board top-to-bottom as indicated in the picture below. Align them on a flat surface so that the left end line up with each other. Next, fold the ribbon cable 90 degrees to line-up with the 60-pin connector on the HOLO3DGRAPH-II board as indicated by the blue lines in the picture below. 21 3.7 Install The Second Wide Ribbon Cable The second wide ribbon cable is the one with the red bump (resistor) in the middle, as pictured below. Connect the second wide ribbon cable to the innermost 60-pin header on the HD-Aux as pictured below. 1. Red Bump 2. Innermost Connector Press the connector onto the header carefully– it may require some pressure. Upon connection of the cable, the end result should now look like this: 22 3.8 Fold The Second Ribbon Cable Fold the second ribbon cable 90 degrees so that it follows the path of the original ribbon cable, as pictured below: 23 3.9 Connect The Coaxial Ribbon Cable To The HOLO3DGRAPH II The Coaxial ribbon cable (narrow ribbon cable) needs to be bent around, keeping the red edge towards the top. The separate (shredded) wires makes it easier to bend the Coaxial ribbon cable towards the right, as pictured below: Next, put the HOLO3DGRAPH II board on top of the HD-Aux card and cables. Connect the Coaxial ribbon to HOLO3DGRAPH II board as pictured below (small connector and header inside green rectangle). Keep the red wire facing towards the top of the HOLO3DGRAPH II board. 24 3.10 Connect The Wide Ribbon Cables To The HOLO3DGRAPH II Connect the Wide ribbon cable (60-pin) indicated by the green arrow, to the outermost 60-pin header on the HOLO3DGRAPH II indicated by the green rectangle, as pictured below: Verify that this is the ribbon cable with the bump (resistor), as pictured below. Press the connector onto the header carefully– it may require some pressure. 25 3.10 Continued… Now, connect the other ribbon cable to the innermost 60-pin header on the HOLO3DGRAPH II board, as pictured below. Press the connector onto the header firmly and carefully– it may require some pressure. 26 3.11 Optional Step This is an optional step. If you want the HD-Aux board to be behind the HOLO3DGRAPH-II board, skip this step. If you prefer the HD-Aux board to be in front of the HOLO3DGRAPH-II board, then follow these steps. (1) (2) (3) Unplug the Coaxial ribbon cable (narrow ribbon cable) Flip the HD-Aux over the to of the HOLO3DGRAPH-II board, and into the front of the HOLO3DGRAPH-II board. Reconnect the Coaxial ribbon cable (narrow ribbon cable), keeping the red edge up. Note how the Coaxial ribbon cable bends over backwards on the HOLO3DGRAPH II header. The HD-Aux is now in front of the HOLO3DGRAPH II board, as pictured below: 27 3.12 Open The Computer Case It is time to install the HOLO3DGRAPH II with HD-Aux into the computer system. Turn off and then unplug your computer. Please refer to your computer’s manual for instructions on how to open your computer case. This procedure may involve removal of screws in order to open your computer case. 3.13 Find Two Free PCI Slots Side-By-Side Find two free adjacent PCI slots in your computer to make way for your HOLO3DGRAPH II with HD-Aux. Unscrew and remove both PCI slot covers. 28 3.14 Install The HOLO3DGRAPH II Board With The HD-Aux IMPORTANT: Some (not all) boards ship with a hexagonal nut attached to the threads of the BNC jack. This nut must be removed before installing the HOLO3DGRAPH I/II board in order for the board to properly fit your computer. With both hands, carefully insert the HOLO3DGRAPH II and the HD-Aux connector edges through the openings at the rear of the computer, as pictured below.
