1 Swing Plate Assembly-RM1-0043
1 Swing Plate Kit-5851-2766 (RM1-0043 plus RM1-1091 gear)
CAUTION: Fuser may be hot. Turn off printer, unplug it and allow it to sit for 20
to 30 minutes before performing these maintenance procedures.
Swing Plate Removal and Installation
1. Remove Toner Cartridge and Tray 2 500 Sheet Cassette
a.) Remove rear output bin by squeezing the hinge pin (callout 1) out of its mounting hole, rotate
door away from printer and remove door.

b.) Remove fuser by squeezing the blue fuser release tabs and pulling the fuser straight out the back
of printer.
2. Remove all Printer Covers
a.) Remove rear accessory cover by grasping rear cover and rotating it towards the front of the
printer, and then lift upward and remove.
b.) Remove the duplex accessory cover by grasping below the arrow and pull straight out of the
back of printer
c.) Remove tray 2 extension cover by lifting the cover into the horizontal position, lift up on the
right side of cover to release its pivot bar. With the cover released form the right pivot bar, slide
the cover to the right to release the left pivot pin from its retainer.
d.) Remove formatter cover by pulling the cover straight back and away from the printer
e.) Remove top cover by using a pair of needle nose pliers to release the print cartridge drive arm
tab (callout 2) then push arm down to avoid damage to the arm when removing the cover.
Remove four mounting screws (callout 3). Grasp the top cover and carefully rotate the left side
of the cover up (be careful not to stress the control panel cable on the bottom right side of
cover). Disconnect control panel cable from the DC controller (callout 4). Be careful not to lose
the accessory pin (callout 5). The pin is loose in top cover and my fall out.

f.) Remove right cover by using a small flat blade screw driver to push in the locking tab on the
lower right front corner of printer, and then release two more locking tabs (callout 6). Pull the
top of the cover away from the printer and lift to remove cover. Reinstallation tip when
reinstalling right cover verify that the power rod is locked in to the power switch.

g.) Remove left cover by releasing two locking tabs (callout 7) then pull the top of the cover away
from printer and lift up to remove.

3. Remove Formatter
a.) Remove two screws (callout 8) and then slide formatter straight out the back of printer.

4. Remove Power Supply
a.) On the left side of printer remove two screws (callout 9) from the fan cover plate and remove plate.
Remove two cables (fan and thermistor) from the power supply (callout 10). Remove three screws,
M3 is stamped in the frame next to each screw (callout 11).

b.) On the right side of printer remove two screws, M4 is stamped in the frame next to each screw
(callout 12), then push in retaining tab (callout 13) and pull tray two support out the back of printer.
Remove three screws; M3 is stamped in the frame next to the screw (callout 14). Remove one screw,
M3
is stamped in the frame next to the screw (callout 15).

c.) Remove the power switch arm (callout 16). Inside view of power switch arm (callout 16A)

d.) Laser Jet 4200/4300 cable removal from DC controller
e.) Remove two ribbon cables (J80, J81, callout 17) and one power supply signal cable (J99, callout 18).
Unweave all three cables from the cable harness guide.

f.) Laser Jet 4240/4250/4350 cable removal from DC controller
g.) Remove two ribbon cables (J80, J81 callout 19) and four power supply signal cables (J71, J72, J73,
J99, callout 20). Unweave all six cables from the cable harness guide.

h.) Feed the two ribbon cables and the power supply signal cables through the opening on the right side
of the chassis in the tray two cavity.
i.) With all cables in tray two cavity, grasp the cables to protect them. Lift on up on the back of the
power supply slightly and pull straight out the back of printer.
j.) Remove one screw (callout 21), then push retaining release button (callout 22) and pull back on
plastic power supply guide rail to remove.

k.) It is easier to remove swing plate assembly with the white fuser gear (callout 23) removed but not
necessary. To remove locate the release clip and pry clip towards the out side of gear and remove.

l.) Remove the rectangular plastic wire guide to more easily access the swing plate assembly. To
remove cable guide use a small screwdriver to press one release tab at the top of the guide (callout
24) and one at the bottom of the guide (callout 25). Carefully pry guide out of place away form the
swing plate, it is not necessary to remove guide.

m.) Caution: do not strip the three screws that retain the swing plate assembly. Remove two screws
(callout 26) from the swing plate by going through the fuser cavity. Remove one screw (callout 27)
from the swing plate by going through the toner cavity.

n.) Before removing swing plate, inspect how and where the tang (callout 28) of the swing plate goes
through the side of printer frame. Remove old swing plate by pulling the plate slightly away then
down to remove swing

o.) When reinstalling the new swing plate assembly make sure the tang in through the hole in the side of
the printer frame, refer to callout 28. Reinstall white fuser gear, refer to callout 23. After both swing
plate assembly and white fuser gear are installed, move the print cartridge arm, refer to callout 2, up
and down and watch the gear with the spacer on the swing plate assembly to see if it moves up and
down. If the gear with the spacer does not move the swing plate assembly is not installed correctly.
p.) Reverse all steps.
5. Installation of the RM-1091 (Fuser Pressure Release Gear)
a.) Release the gear tab (callout 29) by using a small flat blade screwdriver, remove gear. Install new
gear.
