BACKGROUND

Iqaluit is a far-flung town near the
Arctic Circle, inhabiting about
8000 people, mostly aboriginal
natives (Inuit). The town serves as
the territorial capital and the
largest community of Nunavut.
In Iqaluit there are approximately
100 Muslims. By grace of Allah,
some local Inuit have recently
embraced and many are inclined
towards Islam. The need to build
an Islamic Centre is obligatory for
growing Muslim community.
Consequently, in 2009 Islamic
Society of Nunavut (ISN) was
incorporated with the objective to
establish prayers and
maintenance of the religious
identity.
Islamic Centre of Iqaluit, once
built, will be the central place for
congregational prayers and
religious gatherings of Muslim
community.

THE PROECT
Muslim community in Nunavut is striving to build the first Islamic Centre in Iqaluit. This will be the first
Mosque in the entire territory of Nunavut, Canada. The successful completion of this project needs your
financial contributions.
STATUS UPDATE (JULY 2015):
By grace of Allah, and with continuous your support the structural construction of Iqaluit Masjid is almost
complete. Remaining work includes mechanical/heating, plumbing work and interior finishing.
