An update of the future of the Richard
and Gina Santori Public Library of Aurora
As the steel beams at the
new library site continue to
“grow,” administration and
staff continue to work on the
details and decisions for the
interior of the building that
will be named for Richard and
Gina Santori, thanks to the
Santori Foundation’s generous
donation of $3 million. (See
story, Page 1.)
In January, bid openings
for the next 21 areas of
construction–electrical,
plumbing, mechanicals,
millwork, floor coverings and
more–were held. A large
meeting room was filled with
interested tradesmen who
watched as each bid was
opened and publically read
out loud, all according to
state law. These bids are in
the process of being vetted,
and the lowest responsible
bidder will be interviewed for
a negotiated contract.
Take Note
Spring Hours
April
20 – Easter, CLOSED
May
11 – Mother’s Day, CLOSED
25, 26 – Memorial Day, CLOSED
(Beginning May 25, all library
locations will be closed on Sundays
until September 7, when they will
open again for the school year.)
At the Eola Road Branch,
happy kids and their
caregivers are making good
use of the Family Computer
Lab that opened in early
January. The new sorting
room, which holds a state-ofthe-art RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) system, was
completed at the same time.
Work on new study rooms
and a conference room for
the West Branch began in
mid-January and should be
ready for occupancy by the
end of February.
Library Director Eva Luckinbill
has announced that she
plans to retire from her
executive director position
Sign up for email blasts on our website: aurorapubliclibrary.org
before the end of the year.
The Library Board is in the
process of hiring an executive
search firm that will assist
them in recruiting the next
executive director. Once
the new director is in place,
Luckinbill will stay on in a
limited contractual position to
complete the building project
and the relocation to the new
building.
“For the 17 years I have
served the Aurora Public
Library, a new Main Library
has been my goal,” Luckinbill
said. “It is so gratifying
personally and professionally
to be this close to
accomplishing that goal.”
