Mod for Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls III
Mod for Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls III This Mod allows a player to join a secret society and lead a revolt to take over the town of Seyda Neen. Quest Walk Through This walkthrough only includes the dialogue and scripting relevant for advancement within the Mod’s main faction, the Thought Guardians. Finding the Tower The society’s tower is located just outside the starting town, Seyda Neen. Inside, Arcadia Xaos will greet the player. She will tell the player to talk to Yuri Xaos to join the society. Yuri Xaos is fishing beside the lighthouse in Seyda Neen. Talking to Yuri Xaos After the player talks to Yuri Xaos he will become a Pawn in the Thought Guardians. The player will need to speak with Arcadia Xaos to get a key for the society’s ritual room, located in the tower’s basement. The Initiation The ritual room is furnished with a desk, altar, and chairs. The NPCs in the room are the Black King, Black Queen, Black Knight, White Bishop, and three White Rooks. There are also two doors on the south wall. The Black King tells the player about the society and directs the player to enter the door to the left when he or she is ready for the initiation. Through the door, the Black Bishop waits to conduct the initiation. The Black Bishop gives the player four choices, to have the power of a vampire, a dragon’s horde of gold, dutiful slaves, or not taking any of the choices. Only if the player decides not to take any of the choices will the initiation continue. The player will then be asked what he or she seeks: fame, wisdom, or glory. If the player chooses wisdom the Black Bishop advances the player to Initiate and gives the player a book on the society’s teachings. 1 Helping a Merchant After the initiation, the Black King gives the player a task to speak to a member of the society. Balen Andrano, a merchant in Vivic, is planning to murder another merchant. The player is asked to persuade Balen not to go through with his plan. Balen Andrano explains that another merchant is taking his customers and he would like the player to help him with his plan. The player is given the option to help Balen or to persuade him not to go through with the plan. Balen will offer a gift for the player to tell the Black King that Balen has been reformed. If the player rejects Balen’s offer and has changed his disposition to at least 80, he will agree to abandon the plan. Once the task is complete the Black King will allow the player to advance to Apprentice. Advancing to Apprentice The White Bishop gives the player a key to the other door on the south wall. The door teleports the player to a dark prison cell. The player must sleep until dawn or dusk to open the cell door. Outside the door the player will find the society’s shrine of the dead and the White Knight. The White Knight explains the reason for the prison cell and the society’s shrine to the player. The player is advanced to Apprentice and given another task. The player is asked to help Milie Hastein, a widow of a former member. Helping a Widow Milie Hastein, a seamstress in Balmora, gives the player an expensive shirt to deliver to Mathesa Helvi, a smuggler on the Dren plantation. Mathesa dies from poisoning soon after the player delivers the shirt. Once the task is complete the Black Queen will allow the player to advance to Fellow. Advancing to Fellow The Black Bishop informs the player that a Fellow of the society has been murdered. The player is asked to question three suspects and determine which one is the murderer. The ghost of the dead Fellow will appear and relate its death if the player prays at the society’s shrine. The player will be advanced to Fellow after the correct judgment is made and the murderer is found. 2 Overthrowing the Town After the player advances to Fellow, the Black Queen will inform the player that the Emperor is sending soldiers to destroy the society. The player is asked to attack Seyda Neen’s town guards and its lord, Sellus Gravius. After Sellus Gravius is defeated the player should talk to Yuri Xaos to complete the Quest. 3 Dialogue & Scripting Joining the Society Arcadia Xaos Dialogue How can I help you, do you have a question about this tower? This is a private meetinghouse. We have a small library available for public use, but only members can attend services. You will need to become a member. Unfortunately, I can't give you any information about us since we're a secret society, but talk to my father he will be able to tell you about our organization. My father, Yuri Xaos, lives outside of town, but he can usually be found fishing near the lighthouse. Yuri Xaos Dialogue Hi, are you here to fish or did you want to talk about something? I see, I guess you want to know about the Thought Guardians. The Thought Guardians are a society of learned fellows that meet to learn from each other and discuss the affairs of the world. We are the keepers of traditions, seekers of truth, and defenders of free thought. Do you want to join the Thought Guardians? Choice "Yes, I would like to join." 1 "No, never mind." 2 Answer 1 You are now a member of the Thought Guardians. Welcome, %PCName. When you are ready, you can undergo the initiation. Black Bishop Dialogue Hi, %pcname, I'm Megan, a Black Bishop of the Thought Guardians. I conduct the initiations. You have three choices. If you choose correctly, you will become an initiate. If you choose differently we will accept your choice, but you will never be able to advance. Take your time and choose wisely. Your choices are before you. You may choose to have the power of a vampire, a dragon's horde of gold, or the delights of a dutiful slave. Feel free to look everything over, but remember you may only choose one. Return to me when you have made your choice. Are you ready to make a choice? Which do you choose? Choice "I would like to become a vampire." 1 "I would like the gold." 2 "I would like the slaves." 3 "I don't want any of these choices." 4 "I haven't decided." 5 5 Answer 1 Very well, tell Allison your desire and she will make you a vampire. It's an important decision. Helping a Merchant Black King Dialogue Hello %pcrank, do you have a question for me? The initiation was a test of your passions. Our society strives to subdue our passions for the sake of wisdom. The initiation was symbolic of a real world situation. As an initiate you must perform a task to reflect what you have learned in order to advance to your next rank. Did you want to talk about becoming a full member? You're now an initiate. Before you become a full member you'll need to become an Apprentice. Before you can become an Apprentice you will need to complete a task. Every advancement requires a task that relates to what you have learned in the initiation. We would like you to speak to one of our members. He's a merchant that has forgotten the lesson of his initiation and became greedy. We would like him to reconsider his actions. His name is Balen Andrano, he sells various goods in Vivec, Redoran Canton. We would like you to persuade him to change his ways. Don't bribe him, since he will not change if you do. The Bug Musk potions on the alter might help you. Also, use the items in the desk by the door to return here after you've completed the task. Talk to our White Bishop to arrange transportation. Journal "tg2_merchant" 10 7 Balen Andrano Dialogue How may this poor trader help you today? My prices are reasonable, as I've recently had a run of bad luck. *Original Game Dialogue Well, I think I may have a way, if you're interested in helping. I recently came across an object; some say it has some magical properties. It's a bone from some long-dead dwarf. If you can place it in a certain place in Jeanne's shop, it should bring her nothing but misery. *Original Game Dialogue Journal "EB_Bone" 15 Choice "I can help you." 1 "I'm sorry. I cannot help." 2 "Our society has sent me to persuade you against this plan." 3 Answer 3 Well, if it weren't for my bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. Unless, we can come to an understanding. Journal "EB_Bone" 30 In exchange for you tell the society that I have mended my ways I will give you a gift. It will allow others to sleep soundly, when it suits you. What do you think? Choice "I think I can help." 1 "I'm sorry. You should change your plan." 2 Answer 2 I guess getting business isn't worth being expelled from the society. Here is the dwaven bone I was going to use. *If disposition is greater than 80 Player->AddItem "misc_dwarfbone_unique" 1 journal "tg2_bone" 10 Black King Dialogue Were you able to convince Balen Andrano to change his ways? Choice "Yes, I convinced him to mend is ways." 1 "Yes, here is the bone he was planning to use against another trader." 2 "I haven't finished the task yet." 3 Answer 1 or 2 Very good, you've helped one of your fellows. Sometimes it is difficult for us to see past the illusions of this world. Our honor will always be worth more than gold. Talk to our White Bishop about advancing to apprentice. journal "tg2_app" 20 Player->removeitem "misc_dwarfbone_unique" 1 8 Advancing to Apprentice White Bishop Dialogue Hi, %pcname I want to thank you for helping Balen. Go, we will contact you when the time is right. 16 Designer Comments Tower Location The society’s tower is placed outside the starting town, Seyda Neen. The location of the tower in the Mod was mainly for testing and easy playing. Ideally the tower would be placed in an obscure area, since it’s a secret society. A more remote location would also allow the player to be stronger when leading the attack on the town. The Initiation The initiation into the society gave the player three choices, the power of a vampire, a dragon’s horde of gold, or dutiful slaves. To insure the player could only have one of these choices ownership properties were placed on the gold. If the player chooses gold, he or she doesn’t receive the gold on display, instead the Black Bishop gives the player an equivalent amount of gold. This is because the ownership values are too general for this situation. Other items in the room, like the mark and recall amulets are owned by the society, but can be taken by the player without raising an alarm after the player joins the society. Helping the Merchant Balen Andrano, the merchant in Vivic, originally asked the player for help against a rival merchant. This Mod adds another dimension, but still allows the player to participate in the original quest. The society asks the player to persuade Balen Andrano to change his ways, but he is stubborn, requiring a disposition of 80 to alter his thinking. The player has the option to lie to the Black King, which would still allow him or her to advance to Apprentice. Advancing to Apprentice The prison cell door will only open at dawn or dusk to symbolize when the society remembers its dead. The cell door was given a script to prevent the player from opening the door at any other time. A bed was placed in the cell to allow the time to pass quickly. Helping the Widow The next task given to the player was delivering a shirt for a seamstress. Originally, the poison shirt was going to be done with a script on Mathesa Helvi. A script would hide from the player that the shirt was poisoned and require only dialogue, not bartering. The script would remove the shirt from the player, but wouldn’t make Mathesa wear it or give a visual poisoning effect. In addition, most play testers don’t check the shirt before giving it to Mathesa and are surprised by her sudden death. Finding the Murderer Activating the shrine runs a script that calls the ghost of the murdered Fellow. The ghost was placed near the player so it could be found easily. The script only allows the shrine to be activated once to prevent multiple ghosts from appearing. 17 A script was added to make the ghost disappear after it thanks the player for finding its murderer. Also, a no lore command was added to the ghost’s script to prevent it from talking about unrelated subjects, which would be out of character. A script was added to Prisoner 3, the murderer, to make him attack the player after he is found to be the killer. Overthrowing the Town The Rooks and slaves scripts are similar. The major differences in the two scripts are that the player can’t command the Rooks until he or she has advanced to Fellow. In addition, the Rooks are set to an active state each time the player talks to them. The player can choose a new command or allow them to continue their last command. The slave script is also different because it can only run once and will disable the NPC after it is freed, set to a wonder state. The Rook will fight whatever the player is fighting and continues until the opponent is defeated or the Rook is killed. When the player attacks the town guard the group of Rooks will begin fighting that guard and any other guards that enter combat. Since the Rooks will continue fighting, the player can leave the combat and watch the fight. Lastly, Sellus Gravius’s script has been modified to update the player’s journal on his death. The journal entry enables new dialogue from Yuri Xaos, allowing the player to complete the Mod. 18
