As May 19th draws closer and
the prom-mania takes over, many
students consider it to be an almost
mandatory event.
Prom is a major tenet of high
school. It’s the night that everyone is
supposed to remember for the rest of
their lives.
Except prom is not everyone’s
thing. A lot of people don’t really like
the whole “spend $50 on a ticket and
buy an outrageously expensive dress
that you’ll only wear once” deal. Others cannot stand the atrocious music
they exclusively play all night. Yet they
still feel compelled to attend prom
simply because everyone else is going.
Here are some tips on how to enjoy
yourself at prom despite such drawbacks.
First, go into it with a positive
outlook. You don’t have to be such
a negative Nancy about the whole
ordeal. Lighten up a bit and have a
good time. If you convince yourself
beforehand that you are going to be
miserable the whole time, odds are,
you will be.
Going along with the whole letting loose idea, forget about how
much you may hate the music that is
playing. Music is music, just dance it
up with your friends and live a little.
You will survive, I promise.
Finally, if you are worried about
the economic burden of prom, there
are ways around the tremendous
costs. You don’t have to buy the $300
prom dress, instead go for something
a little less superfluous. You don’t
have to pay to get your hair and nails
done either. Call up your best friend
and get your makeover on. It’ll be a
blast and, more importantly, free.
Go for the experience. Prom
could end up being the time of your
life if you let it be.
This dress and a variety of other options at affordable prices can
be found at Windsor, a store selling formal wear for women.
For many girls in high school
prom can be a very expensive night.
When you start adding the costs
for the dress, shoes and all the other
items that are necessary to get ready
for the big day, Prom spending can
easily balloon to an average of over
$1,000, according to USA Today.
If you can afford to pay that
much many people would argue that
it’s worth it.
Prom is a once in a lifetime
event and you will remember this
night your whole life.
So why not spend the extra
money to look nice?
When you look back at your
pictures 20 years from now, you will
probably not regret buying that expensive dress.
However, if you are on a tight
budget, then I advise you to take the
time to look around and go to many
different stores to find the best deal
on your dress.
I visited two stores, Macy’s and
Windsor, which can be found in several malls.
These stores offer a wide variety of prom dresses in various price
ranges.
When you first walk into Windsor you can’t help but stare at all the
colorful dresses in the back of the
store.
Not only does Windsor sell
dresses but they also have clothes,
shoes, and accessories for your hair,
and jewelry.
Long prom dresses at Windsor
range from $70 to $200 and up, and
the short dresses range from 50 to
$150.
Windsor also carries a small selection of shoes ranging from $25 to
about $35.
The next store I visited was Macy’s, a big department store not specifically known for prom dresses.
However, they carry a huge assortment of dresses in the store and
online.
Macy’s is constantly having sales
which makes this an affordable option to purchase your prom dress.
This store is not as organized
as Windsor, so if you plan to buy
here I advise you to take your time
to browse.
If you look long enough you are
bound to find a great deal.
Most of their prom dresses
range in price from $50- $250.
There is a price range for everyone
in between, and there are even a few
dresses under $50.
Since Macy’s is a department
store, it is easy to find everything you
will need for prom.
If you decide to purchase your
prom dress from either of these two
stores I can almost guarantee you will
get a beautiful dress worth its value.
I also recommend checking the
MCHS prom dress page on Facebook for anyone who is planning on
attending prom.
This site was made for girls who
are going to MCHS prom to showcase their dresses so other people
will not purchase the same one. You
can also get feedback on what other
people think of your dress.
This site may also help if you’re
unsure of how much to spend on
your dress.
It can give you an idea of where
to purchase your dress and the look
most girls are wearing so you can be
original.

This time of year the main issue is
prom. And with that comes the stress of
finding your perfect Cinderella prom dress.
Everyone is wishing for the cliche moment
where you walk through the doors and the
sea of people turn, dazzled by your gown
that seems to be on another level then everyone else’s.
While some go ball gown, others go
mermaid. Every style is different and mostly unique. The key is finding that one special
fit. The perfect dress is not far from your
reach. Just a quick drive to your favorite
shops with your favorite of friends.
The key to finding the perfect dress is
to let your character and personality shine
through it. If you’re flirty, go with brighter
colors with some jewels on it.
Classy? Go with a sleek, neutral color
dress that isn’t revealing. Let your personal-

A big issue for many girls is finding
a dress that no one will have. In order to
achieve that goal, go to stores that are not
name brands such as Nordstrom’s, Cache,
Windsor or Macys. Search at little boutique
shops that not well-known.
Another way to ensure that your dress
will not be worn by another is to look at the
Facebook where girls can post pictures of
their prom dresses.
By doing this you not only get to see
who has what prom dress, but it gives you
a feel for what type of dress you might
want.
Not only is the dress important but
accessories matter just as much. Having a
simple dress can easily be played up by fun
costume jewelry.
Chunky necklaces are always praise
worthy when worn with a simple, sleek
and elegant dress. Also there is the choice
of finding the simple delicate chain with a

If you’ve listened to the radio anytime in
the past month or so, then you’ve experienced
the uprising artist known as Gotye.
Wouter De Backer, better known by his
stage name “Gotye” has become an instant
sensation in America after his hit song
“Somebody That I Used to Know” hit number
one on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
His success is partially in thanks to his
very interesting voice and style. The Australian
artist’s creative use of unusual instruments also
gives his newest album “Making Mirrors” a
unique edge.
Other songs such as “Making Mirrors”
and “Eyes Wide Open” have also impacted the
musical charts worldwide. The lyrics of most
of Gotye’s songs deal with the problems of
life or love, and put a deep spin on things that
everyone can relate to.
The relatable content of the songs makes
them ever more popular in the U.S, while also
reaching platinum in places as far as Poland.
To anyone who enjoys alternative music
like Bon Iver, Empire of the Sun, and Ellie
Goulding, Gotye is definitly someone to check
out.
All in all, I recommend this album to
anyone who is a fan of indie music. The
meaningful lyrics of Gotye attract fans of all
kinds, and his music continues to grow more
and more popular each day.
The Shins is arguably one of the most
well known and definitive indie bands to grace
the genre. So when the band didn’t release a
new album for a period of five years following
“Wincing the Night Away” in 2007, fans
became antsy with anticipation.
So, to say the least, their new album, “Port
of Morrow,” had a lot to live up to when it
was released about a month ago in late March,
especially since the entire band, minus lead
singer James Mercer, underwent a lineup
change.
It’s obvious at first listen that this album
marks a new era for The Shins. There is a great
possibility that Mercer’s experimental album
with Danger Mouse under the name Broken
Bells had some influence on the albums new
sound. Although it was great alone, mixing it
with The Shins distinctive sound didn’t play
well for the album.
The tracks are hit or miss. Some reek of
clichés such as the song “It’s Only Life” while
others are pretty spectacular, like “The Rifle’s
Spiral” and “Simple Song”.
Regardless of the new sound, it’s a great
record. Mercer’s songwriting, as always, is
untouchable and there are moments that are
reminiscent of past albums.
In the end though, it’s not really The Shins
as much as it is just Mercer. But Mercer being
Mercer, he pulls it off extremely well.
pendent.
Heels are another matter. For those
going with a date that are shorter than they
are, high heels are not the way to go.
While many dont want to wear flats,
always remember you can go with a wedge
that gives the illusion of being higher than
they actually are.
The perfect dress will find you when
you least expect it. on the day of looking
for your dress, don’t go in expecting anything special.
Keep an open mind because some
dresses may look better on than off. Trying
on many dresses is never a bad thing. This
is the highschool experince!
Grab it by the reins and enjoy the
cheesy moments because this is one of the
few left in your highschool life.
Prom can be stressful, however, it is
also a time to dress up and look stunning.
Own the dress you choose, don’t let it own
you.

Located in Rancho Bernardo and Mira
Mesa, Pho Ca Dao is one of the best pho places
in San Diego. As a veteran pho connoisseur, I
have eaten where pho is too bland, too salty,
and too expensive. Pho Ca Dao offers excellent
food for a reasonable price.
Pho is a Vietnamese rice-noodle soup
usually served with beef or chicken and
seasoned with Asian basil, mint leaves, bean
sprouts, and lime. It is the main feature at Pho
Ca Dao, and the broth maintains a great balance
of flavor, fragrance, and clarity.
Other food selections are also superb.
Wrapping oily egg rolls in fresh, crunchy lettuce
leaves counteracts the greasiness and gives the
appetizer a lighter feel. The spring rolls are
average, though still good. Wrapped in moist
rice paper and stuffed with rice vermicelli
and fresh lettuce, customers can choose from
shrimp, pork, or beef. If you are looking for
something light, the shrimp is an excellent
choice. For people looking for something more
flavorful, the charbroiled pork offers a great
meal in mess-free, compact eggrolls.
The vermicelli at Pho Ca Dao is average
compared to other pho venues, again offering
a little too much vermicelli, but nonetheless
delicious.
All around, Pho Ca Dao is my favorite pho
venue in San Diego. I recommend it to first
time and senior pho eaters alike.
Starring a very attractive cast, “Think Like
a Man” is a romantic comedy based on Steve
Harvey’s bestseller, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like
a Man.”
Following the release of Harvey’s book six
men’s love lives are drastically changed. Feeling
betrayed by one of their own kind, they decide
to use the book to their advantage.
There is the Mama’s Boy versus the Single
Mom; the Dreamer versus the Woman Who Is
Her Own Man; and the Non-Committer versus
the Ring Girl; plus the Happily Married Man
and the Happier Divorced Man.
The movie did not have an extremely
moving plot, but it did feature a number of
hilarious comedians such as, Kevin Hart and
Gary Owen. Within the first five minutes of
the film, Hart stole the show making the entire
audience laugh out loud.
Overall the movie wasn’t only funny, because
of the diverse roles; people in the audience were
also able to relate to at least one character.
This movie is a mixture of hilarious
comedians and decorated actors, so it is bound
to be a hit. Walking out of the theater you are
almost forced to review your morals as far as
dating.
Besides being an overall hilarious movie it
also had great acting. I would pay to go see this
movie again, it’s a must see if you want a good
laugh, whether you’re single or not.
