A Message From The President:
Wow, another year has gone by and once again we are into Pride Season. During these harrowing
times we have met with several pit falls but have endured the downturns and managed to
create another fun and exciting Festival for all. The City of London has unfortunatly lost a
few of the festivals/events but Pride London Festival has managed to forge on solidifying the
determination and strength of the GLBT Community and their supporters.
Returning this year we have the popular Kid Zone, Live Theatre Production, Literary Night and
the Pride Art Show. Also, it wouldn’t be a Pride Festival without the outside stage with a
fantastic entertainment lineup to suit everyone’s taste. This year, after a brief hiatus, we have
reinstated a couple of old favorites; the Pride Movie Day and the Saturday night dance.
We have chosen the theme “A Family Reunion”. This came about from the comments made by
attendees at the Festival last year; “It’s like a family reunion”. We see faces we haven’t seen for
a year. And like Family Reunions there is always the comment “we’ll have to get together more
often” or “we’ll have coffee sometime”; that often and sometime never seems to come about
(until the next year). Take the time to follow through and share special time with aquaintances;
life is to short. And for those coming into London for the Pride celebrations; come back more
than just once a year. London has a lot to offer; from excellent performances at The Grand
Theatre/McManus Theatre, Centennial Hall, first rate performers at the John Labatt Centre,
various other summer festivals and many great shops, restaurants and hotels. Check out
Tourism London www.londontourism.ca and The London Arts Hub/London Arts Council www.
londonarts.ca for all the exciting and entertaining events within our wonderful city.
I would like to thank the dedicated Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, Volunteers, Sponsors
and Advertisers who have made this event possible. As I say each year “the sponsors and
advertisers supported you; please go out and support them”.
Enjoy the planned events but most of all HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY PRIDE.

Mission Statement
Pride London’s Festival’s mission is
to provide an annual opportunity to
generate celebratory, cultural, artistic
and educational events which affirm
the lives of GLBTT2 (gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transsexual, transgender,
two spirited) people and supporters
through activities which promote unity,
inclusion and awareness of sexual and
gender diversity.
Organization Vision
Pride London Festival operates within
a set of principles and ideals that
encourage community investment
and development; health and wellbeing; safety and the advancement of
Canadian art through an annual artistic
and cultural festival.
and culture of the GLBTT2 (gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transsexual, transgender, two
spirited) community.
Artists and artistic works are chosen
based on content, availability, diversity,
focus and cultural merit.
Ideally
professional/amateur artists who are
of the GLBTT2 community and whose
work deals directly or indirectly with
related gender, sexual or discrimination
issues are chosen. Generally they are
under representated in the commerical
arts community; their work may be
marginalized due to content; it is a
great opportunity to expose work to
the elements of the community which
would most likely be affected by it. It is
also an opportunity to show examples
of successful professional/amateur
GLBTT2 persons.
Artistic Vision
The goal of Pride London Festival is to
present a variety of works in the various
mediums (music, photography, writing,
painting, film, video and performance)
that highlight, explore, expand and
deal with identity and gender issues
Artists are not chosen strictly on
sexual orientation.
Heterosexual
artists whose work is somehow related
or aligned with GLBTT2 culture, deals
with discrimination or gender issues
are also considered.

Anonymous HIV Testing
– 20 Minute Test Results
659 Dundas Street, London and/or
1355 Huron Street, London
P: 519 673 4427
What makes you proud to be
at Pride?
Is it your health? Is it the way you treat
people? Is it your discretion? Is it how
full your dance card is?
NEWS FLASH: knowing your HIV
status can affect all of those things,
and not always in a good way. But it’s
till better than not knowing.
For a lot of people, the best way to
find out is at an anonymous clinic.
At Options Clinic, we’ve been doing
it since 1992. Testing anonymously
means just that. We don’t ask for any
identifying information – no name,
no health card, no phone number, no
drivers licence – and we don’t report
HIV-Positive results to anybody but
the person who tests. Also, if you’re
reluctant to discuss certain behaviours
with your doctor, you might find it
easier with people you don’t know,
people who won’t raise an eyebrow or
wag a finger.
And good news for folks
at Pride 2009:
you can find out your status in a
matter of minutes. That’s right. This
weekend only we’re offering free,
rapid and anonymous HIV testing at
ACOL’s space, just down the road at
186 King Street, between Richmond
and Clarence Streets.
card is required. Hours of operation
for the STI Clinic are Monday to
Wednesday 5 to 7pm\, Friday 8:30 to
10:30 am. In addition MLHU offers a
Counter Point needle exchange site.
Hepatitis A immunization is offered
at no charge for bisexual or gay men,
men who have sex with men, people
with liver disease and IVDUs. There is
no charge for Hep B immunizations.
Sexual health counseling is included.
Freedom
of
information
and
confidentiality are cornerstones of
the Units work. Screening for abused
women is an integral part of all the
clinics services. We partner with other
agencies such as ACOL and Options
to offer our services to all. The
sexual health promotion team offers
presentations, workshops, group
discussions and health communication
messages on all issues of sexuality.
BE SAFE , BE INFORMED.
If you’d rather not miss any of the fun
this weekend, you can visit one of our
clinics. See our advertisement in the
Pride Guide for hours.

community concerns about the hate,
bias, and discrimination that many
of us experience due to factors that
include age, ethno-cultural affiliation,

about hate-related issues in our city
and to support individuals who have
experienced or witnessed hate and
bias activity.
The Anti-Hate and
Anti-Bias program offers one on
one support; presentations about
hate crime, hate and bias activity,
preventing hate; a monthly e-Bulletin
that includes information about
important awareness days, faith days,

inherent worth and dignity of every person,” applies equally to
people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Our lay

THE INTERNATIONAL COURT SYSTEM
of the United States, Canada and Mexico
by Empress XII Panzi, ICC President
The International Court System (ICS) is one of the most exciting, diverse GLBT organizations on this continent. With 68
Chapters across the US, Canada and Mexico, our members utilize their unique talents to raise funds and awareness, educate
and teach, and help fulfill the needs of their communities. In the spirit of true “camp” each chapter is known as an “Imperial
Court” and we play a Royal Game. We have no Kings or Queens, but oh, so many Emperors and Empresses, Dukes and
Duchesses, Lords and Ladies – just to name a few of the camp titles or levels of royalty one can achieve through service.
We bring out the “fun” in “fundraising”
José Sarria, the first openly gay candidate to run for public office in 1961, founded the ICS in in 1965 in San Francisco – four
years before Stonewall! José declared herself “Empress I Jose, The Widow Norton” to unite the GLBT Community, to raise
awareness and to educate the public. Little did she know that over 40 years later, her “camp” idea would grow to the extent
that it has, with several millions of dollars being raised over the years by her followers.
Today, the ICS is the second largest GLBT organization flourishing in cities from Hawaii to St. Louis to Halifax; Alaska to
Vancouver to New York; Seattle to Texas to Toronto; and to LONDON, ONT! We are a strong grassroots organization which
impacts our local communities by donating much needed funds to charities, supplying supplies to food banks, collecting
toys for tots, visiting and entertaining the elderly and the hospitalized, marching. . . to name a few!
I believe one of our most notable achievements that most people are not aware of, is the extent of our scholarship programs.
Nearly half of the ICS Kingdoms have active scholarship programs for our youth and have contributed over $2 million dollars
over the past 30 years! That is amazing.
In addition to some of the other aspects of the ICS, perhaps the best is that our organization is open to everyone. Our
membership includes every aspect of society: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered or heterosexual. A person’s gender,
lifestyle or mode of dress has no bearing on being a member of our court “family”.
As of February 2007, City Commissioner (San Diego, CA) Nicole Murray Ramirez assumed the reigns as Executive Director
and “Queen Mother of the Americas” after our beloved Founder, Absolute Empress I José retired from this position.
As part of the Queen Mother’s vision, she designated the Matthew Shepard Foundation as the beneficiary of the ICS’s 2009
international fund-raising efforts. The MSF is an organization that provides vital tools to educate people about accepting
diversity and rejecting hate, led by Mrs. Judy Shepard whose son was murdered 11 years ago simply because he was gay.
The MSF has agreed to utilize the funds raised in each Kingdom – to benefit that Community. So while the MSF has not had
a presence in Canada as yet, this year it shall.
I bet you did not know about your Canadian Empires! The ICS is proud to include Surrey, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary,
Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, St. Catharine’s-Niagara, Hamilton-Wentworth, London and Halifax as active Kingdoms within
the International Court System.
So look for a Court near you today to join in the fun! For more information, please visit our website at www.impcourt.org
