Whisky Island
Sustainability Project!
The Whisky Island Sustainability Project officially came to an end on
31st March 2015. It has been a very busy year! MLC has had a
“green makeover” with new LED lighting fitted along with other
energy efficiency measures including insulation, lagging and draft
excluders. Thanks to this project the Mactaggart Leisure Centre has
reduced its CO2 emissions by
è
223 t CO2e per year!!
Our “car mile reduction” project has been a great success and saw the
launch of IslayandJura.liftshare.com, Islay’s official liftshare website
– It’s not too late to sign up for free and start sharing journeys. Many
people also enjoyed the benefit of our Fuel Good Driver Training and
learned how to save fuel and save money when driving. (up to £500/
year!).
We would like to thank everybody who was involved in this project
and to wish our Project Officer, Laura Anderson, all the best with her
move back to the mainland.
Children's Activities
Lessons - After our level 1 and 2 Swimming Teaching
Shannon Downing started working
alongside Karen as fundraising assistant at the beginning of September
2014 and finished March 2015 ‘ she
enjoyed working with us and will be
back on a volunteering capacity from
time to time
courses last year, we have a fantastic team of teachers
that make all our lessons fun, challenging and friendly.
Rookies - All our dedicated rookies are getting very
knowledgeable and work well as a team with our teachers. They are capable to help teach any new children
in the class all the skill to do with lifeguarding.
Lifeguard Club - Currently recruiting new young people
to come and train with us in preparation for a lifeguard
exam in July. Once successfully passed, they will join
our casual staff.
