1. In order to change fork oil, raise the bike off of the floor and secure it.
2. Remove the front wheel
3. Remove the front fender.
4. Remove the front brake caliper and suppor t it. Do not let it hang b y the brake
line. Do not squeeze the front brake lever while caliper is in this position.
5. Now loosen pinch bolts in tr iple tree until forks can be removed.
6. Remove fork legs and tur n upside down. Now remove lower caps (where axle
goes) from the fork tubes. Be careful as the caps are under spr ing pressure.
7. Drain oil out and refill with fresh oil 10 oz per leg of type ‘E’ fork oil.
8. Reinstall the lower fork caps. Use of the leg of tool VT No. 16-0573 will greatly aid in this step. Once lower caps are installed reassemble the fork, wheel,
fender and caliper assembly.

axle. Trees are stock FXST rake. Available in stock (31”) to +12”
extended length. Use 111/2” single disc and caliper assembly. Order
tree set and leg set separ ate as two numbers. Tree set includes upper
covers and leg set includes lo wer covers in correct length for tube

The V-TwinTM Fork Assembly is shipped complete with axle, axle nut, spacer,
top nut, bearings, cone nut, dust cover, triple trees and fork tubes & sliders.
Fork tubes and sliders are fully assemb led with internals. Final assembly of the
remaining components is done by the dealer. Every leg assembly is shipped
dry. We recommend use of the appropr iate fork oil such as Type B. The amount
of fork oil to add varies by model. A FX will need about 6 oz per leg, a FL will
need about 8.5 oz per leg and a FXWG need about 10 oz per leg. Due to oil
cling, dry for leg needs about 1 oz more to fill than a dr ained leg would require.
FXST Style Single Disc Fork Assembly features chrome
trees with 1” stem, polished or chromed lower slider legs, to
accept 11.5” caliper and rotor, hard chrome fork tubes, axle,
neck bearings, top cone and stem n ut, pinch bolts and bearing dust covers. Fork is 31” overall length (L) and legs are
assembled. Single disc unit accepts 11.5” rotor and left side
caliper.

These fork tubes have been manufactured and tested for exact fit and application per model. It can be difficult to identify the front end assemb lies because
they may not always be original equipment. Before installing, compare old and
new tubes. Be sure the stock top plugs fit into the ne w fork tubes. To avoid
scratching the chrome, we suggest that the tubes be lightly r ubbed with oil
before installing into fork legs. Be absolutely sure you have the right tubes
before you install them. No fork tubes can be accepted f or return that are
scratched or damaged due to improper installation or handling.
