Learn how terrorism relates to patrol officers as our first line of
defense, whether you’re jurisdictions are urban or rural. In 2007
Deputy Blakely initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in rural South
Carolina. That stop resulted in the disruption of a terrorist attack
during the planning stages. It stands, to date, as the only terrorist
attack prevented by a patrol officer on a traffic stop. Deputy
Blakely will walk you through the vehicle stop, the arrest, the 4
year court proceedings and lessons learned.
