WELCOME
GRAMPIAN TRANSPORT MUSEUM 2015
PRINCIPAL SPONSOR TAQA
We couldn’t run Greenpower, a registered charity, without the
significant support we receive from hundreds of volunteers
and organisations that contribute significant time and
resources because they believe so much in the positive
outcomes of the project.
In this region we would like to thank in particular TAQA
Bratani who are the main supporters of the event; Young
Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland who promote the
project throughout Scotland and provided significant support
to create these events; the Grampian Transport Museum who
provide their stunning venue and tireless help before, during
and after the event; and of course never forgetting the many
volunteers supporting the schools and helping to run the day.
Please help us to spread the word about Greenpower and
play an interactive part in the event by using the social media
tags in this programme.
Have a great day!

SCDI is delighted to be a Partner of Greenpower and we are
pleased to welcome schools from across Scotland to compete
at Grampian Transport Museum. Our Young Engineers and
Science Clubs Programme engages over 1200 schools, with the
aim of inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists.
Greenpower is a hugely exciting STEM project which is not only
cross curricular but also brings together such valuable industry
and community partnerships.
If you would like to be involved in future Scottish Greenpower
events or are interested in supporting Young Engineers and
Science Clubs, please email [email protected] so we
can keep in touch.

TEAM
PROFILE
GRAMPIAN TRANSPORT MUSEUM TEAM
CARS - ‘ALFORD SPYDER’ & ‘ALFORD BULLET’
The GTM Young Engineers
Club is a group aimed at
Secondary School aged
people, which gives them
the opportunity to learn and
develop engineering skills, as
well as put them into practice
in a safe environment, in a
fun and engaging way.
The club contains members
from across Aberdeenshire,
and is located at the
Grampian Transport Museum
and meets on Saturday
mornings. The group aims
to encourage more young
people to have an interest
in Science, Engineering
and Technology, by giving
them hands-on experience,
as well as allowing them to
share in the knowledge and
experience of the club’s
senior members.The team’s
primary focus is competing
in Greenpower Formula 24
Challenge, which involves the
club building, testing, racing,
and maintaining two Formula
24 cars.
Both mechanical and
electrical elements of the
vehicles’ construction are
worked on by different
members of the team. The
competition also allows
team members to build
and develop group skills, as
well as leadership abilities.
The nature of the Formula
24 Challenge also allows
members to learn about
track safety, and develop
their driving skills.The club
has seen local and national
success in the Formula 24
challenge over the past 6 years. The club does have other
activities, such as assisting in the conservation of Museum
exhibits, and providing talks and presentations with practicing
engineers to help encourage more people into the profession.

THE KENNETHMONT SCHOOL TEAM
CAR - ‘THE FLASH’
The Flash from Kennethmont
is a team of 13 enthusiastic
youngsters aged from 9-12.
This is the first year we have
entered the competition
and we are very grateful to
TAQA for their sponsorship
of the Goblin car. Every
week the team has come
together to work on building
the car, fund raise (through
a sponsored cycle) and
create their portfolio. They
are especially proud of the
body work on their car which
is made from carbon fibre
donated by Argon Creative
from Gateshead. The young
people have developed a
range of skills during the
project including team work,
negotiating, leadership and
citizenship as well as maths,
technology , art and design
and how to use common
tools such as spanners and
screwdrivers! The team will be
split into three parts on race
day with drivers, mechanics
and support teams. Good
luck to them all!!

HAZLEHEAD ACADEMY TEAM
CAR - ‘MYSTERY MACHINE’
We are a group of fourth years ranging in the ages of 15 to
16 years old. We are a very diverse team with people coming
from all over Europe. Our team chose the Scooby Doo theme
because we felt it would be different from any other car there.
During our time working on the Mystery Machine, we have
developed many new skills that we would not have gained in
the regular school curriculum. We learned to work effectively
as a team and made use of everyone’s individual skills
they already had before this project. Our team also had to
overcome a range of different problems that we had to find
creative solutions to.

BRAG ENTERPRISES Ltd TEAM
CAR - ‘THE BRAGIN’ FIFERS’
BRAG’s Greenpower Formula
24 Team ‘The Bragin’ Fifers’
have been together for
around 18 months and what
an amazing 18 months it
has been! During their first
racing season they have
designed and built their first
kit car with support from a
variety of companies and
volunteers as well as secured
team sponsorship from
companies such as Shell
UK, Genesis Composites,
John Young Signs and Green
Business Fife to name a few.
The team have raced in two
Scottish Heats at Alford,
Aberdeenshire and East
Fortune receiving trophies
at both events for the best
portfolio and best kit car,
the team also amazingly
qualified for the International
Finals at Goodwood
on Sunday 12 October
2014. This was a massive
achievement for everyone
involved and just getting the
car around the Goodwood
track was a great experience
for the team. They were also
elated to be presented with
the International Final 2014
IMechE Portfolio Award! What
an amazing year!!
This season The Bragin’ Fifers
have been working on the
car’s bodywork in order to
make it more aerodynamic
and increase the top speed,
the steering and suspension
have been removed and
altered so that it is easier to
grip and turn as well as lots
of other changes. One of
the hopes for the Grampian
Heat is to try to reduce the weight on the car. The team are all
very excited and looking forward to seeing all the other teams
during the 2015 racing season.
