CSRTNewsline–Volume20,Issue1 CSRT ConnecticutSocietyof RadiologicTechnologists Newsline Winter2016 President’sMessage TheCSRTisthere....forYOU! -DonnaJ.Crum,MS,RT(R)(CT) Itismyhonortowritetoyouastheelectedpresident oftheCSRT,Inc.for2015-2016.Theworldischanging andwiththosechangescomemoreandmorestressors onmembersofallprofessions,includingradiography- new technology, more training, and new regulations, just to name a few. Regulatory bodies are imposing changeonourprofessionandIwouldliketheCSRTto be the organization you turn to for the latest information that may affect how you practice your profession.Itisimpossibleforaworkingradiographer tokeepupwiththemanychangesonthehorizon. But as a member of your professional organization, we all may be able to stay abreast of any changes that may come. The CSRT Board is the mouthpiece for the radiographersinthestateofConnecticut.Tothatend,I am appealing to every radiographer in the state to become an advocate for your profession. Make your voiceheard, standupforwhatyoubelieveinandnever settle for someone else telling you how to be a radiologic professional. Many of the 3000+ Connecticut radiographers are members of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), our national organization. The ASRT provides wonderfulbenefitsincludingcontinuingeducation LikeusonFacebook (CE) credits. The ASRT works on a national level to addressradiographers’concerns.TheCSRTisastatelevel organization that monitors and addresses more localissues.TheCSRT,Inc.worksverycloselywiththe ASRT, but we know our state better than anyone else does and we want to know our radiographers better thananyoneelseinhealthcaredoes. While I am happy to announce the CSRT is financially stable this year, we still have a long way to go to maintainthatstability.WiththesupportoftheASRT’s AffiliateFinancialAssistanceProgram, wewereableto develop our new website (see more on page 3) to communicate more quickly with the busy CSRT,INC radiographers across this state. We are able to continue to provide a lobbyist to monitor legislation that could affect radiographers in the state. We’re busyworkingonanumberofadditionalinitiativesthat WWW.CSRT.US JoinusonLinkedIn CSRTNewsline–Volume20,Issue1 we hope will grow our numbers and strengthen our membership. Over the past year under the direction of Daniel DeMaio, theCSRTboardsponsoredtwoinnovativeCE events at breweries in Stratford and Bristol that broughtradiographersfromaroundthestatetogether. I would like to continue this new tradition and would liketospreadoutovermoreofthestatetohearwhat radiographers are thinking and what challenges you may be facing in your profession. Unfortunately, I am notoriginallyfromConnecticutsoIdonotknowofall ofthewonderfulplacesthatarepossiblevenuesforCE events. I would like to learn more about your locale and look forward to hearing from radiographers aroundthestateaboutpossiblevenuesthatwemaybe abletoutilizeinthenextfewmonths. The board also sponsored CE events in multiple hospitals, again hoping to hear from radiographers in the state and grow our membership. CE events took place in New London, Manchester, Middletown, Stamford and Farmington. We know other facilities are out there and we are willing to come to your site whenauthorizedbyyouradministration. I would like to continue building our society by working with the student radiographers in the state. Last year, the CSRT sponsored a national speaker to comeandaddressstudentsonissuesrelatedtodigital radiography.The110studentsrepresentingmany different state programs learned many new concepts and facts about the latest digital equipment. In an efforttoincreasestudentparticipationintheCSRT,the board is forming a student committee to hear the issues and concerns of our student radiographers. I plantoinvestigatethechallengesthatkeepthemfrom joining our society and remove any obstacle that may be in their path. Students and new graduates are the lifebloodoftheCSRTandwereallyneedtoencourage them to join and advocate for their new profession. There is safety in numbers and the more voices we have the louder we can communicate to other professionsandtothepublicthatwearetheradiologic science experts. Spread the word to your friends and colleaguesabouttheCSRT,Inc.VisitourNEWwebsite, www.csrt.us and advocate for the radiography profession. The CSRT will continue to monitor state legislative activity with the help of our lobbyist, Josh Hughes from Capitol Consulting, LLC. This legislative monitoring is something theCSRTtakesseriously.Forexample, wehaveworkedwith members in the past to introduce legislation to include Radiographers in the state’s Sick Leave Bill. The CSRT has also recently helped the Nuclear Medicine Technologists withlegislationimportanttotheirpractice. The CSRT understands that you can get your CEU credits several ways - online, at a conference, through journal directedreadings, etc.WhilemanyCEcompaniesandother organizations may fill the niche for continued education, they certainly do not supply the technologists in any state with legislative monitoring. LikeusonFacebook WWW.CSRT.US JoinusonLinkedIn CSRTNewsline–Volume20,Issue1 Inmemoriam… EileenNoble(62) It is with deep regret that the CSRT acknowledges the death of Eileen Noble (62) who passed away on Nov 4, 2015 after a brave battle with small cell lung cancer. Eileen was Director of Radiology Associates and MidState Medical Center in Meriden for 41 years. She was a long time member of the CSRT who urged her staff's involvement in their professional organizations. Four weeks before her death, she was at our Annual Conference still supporting us right to the end. Our deepest condolences to her family - husband Drew, son Doug, daughter Kellie and 4 grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, not only by them, but by her Radiology family at Radiology Associates as well. With deepest sympathy.....
