Update On Major Projects Dreier Lauds
L
ast week I went
into detail about
the expansion of
the Glendora Marketplace. Today I
want to bring you up to date on
the other major projects going on
in our city.
William Lyon Homes
Construction on the former
Rain-Bird property located
between Barranca and Grand
Avenues below Bennett Avenue
is underway. William Lyon
Homes is constructing 145
residences on the property; some
single family detached and some
town-homes. The developer
worked cooperatively with the
neighborhood, the school district
and the city staff to resolve local
concerns. The developer will be
building and maintaining a new
4-acre linear park running along
the south side of the project
which will tie into the future
development of the Monrovia
Nursery. The City will also be
receiving a $2 million
endowment
for
housing
programs. The City expects the
project to be built out this year.
Monrovia Nursery
City staff is awaiting plans for
the development of the 90-acres
of the Monrovia Nursery located
in Glendora. The land owner has
not yet submitted a complete
development plan enabling the
City to begin its formal review,
but it is likely that the project will
result in around 120-130 new
single-family dwelling units on
half-acre lots. The City continues
to be vigilant over water run-off,
traffic, and neighborhood
compatibility concerns, which
the residents have expressed. We
do not know when the project
will break ground – it could be
years.
Morgan Group
Located at the northeast
corner of Glendora Avenue and
Route 66, this key gateway
project is due to break ground
very soon. The land owner has
been relocating existing tenants
and is getting ready to clear the
land. What was once a collection
of used car lots, RV repair yards
and 60’s era buildings will be
replaced with a cutting edge,
modern, mixed use project that
will anchor the entry into the
downtown.
This project was made
possible when the Council
adopted the “Route 66 Specific
Plan” in 2003. The project will

provide 170 condominium units
which will provide an opportunity
for entry-level housing not
previously available in Glendora.
These will be owner occupied
units.
Milan
This is another project made
possible through the Route 66
Specific Plan. Located at the
entry to the downtown village at
the southwest corner of Glendora
Avenue & Foothill Boulevard, the
developer of the project, Milan
Properties, will be proposing
shops, offices and town homes
in this underutilized center. What
has been an albatross in the Village
will become a new development
that sets the bar for new projects
in Glendora. The project will
include about 60 new dwelling
units with sweeping views of the
foothills and the San Gabriel
Valley. New offices and retail
space will bring new jobs,
revenues and a new type of
housing for Glendora residents
who may not want to maintain a
single-family home but still stay
in Glendora in what is expected
to be a luxury, for-sale housing
opportunity for existing
residents.
Tesco
At Grand and Gladstone,
where the former Mann Theater
site is located, staff is working
on a complete renovation of the
shopping center which was built
in the 1980s. Tesco, a retailer
from Great Britain, is looking to
open “Trader Joe’s” style
markets throughout Southern
California. The Mann theater
building would be demolished
and replaced with a new Tesco
store along with a renovation of
all buildings in the center. The
AAA office would remain.
NW Corner, Grand & Route
66
The City recently approved a
new retail development on the
site which will add to the on-
going improvements taking place
along Route 66. This project is
even more prominent as it takes
place on one of the key
commercial and gateway
corners of the community. The
City insisted on the highest
architectural standards and
quality to achieve a great looking
project to include opportunities
for an outdoor plaza for
pedestrian enjoyment and
attractive landscaping. Buildings
will be built in the craftsmanstyle to reflect the city’s
architectural heritage. Tenants
expected include Union Bank,
Coffee Bean and Tea Leave, and
other opportunities for retail and
commercial. New buildings will
total 18,000 square feet in area.
Construction should be complete
by the end of this year.
Gangi
A development of 26 town
homes and office space in the
Village will be breaking ground
this year. Located on Vermont
Avenue north of Foothill
Boulevard behind Bank of
America, the project is designed
to add another dimension to the
Village. What is now a vista of
commercial parking lots will be
transformed into Craftsman style
live/work space, adding to the
charm and uniqueness of
Glendora’s Village. This project
is not expected to be completed
until 2008.
Meda/ Glendora (Artura)
Also in the Village and
presently under construction at
the south east corner of Meda
and Glendora Avenue is the first
new retail building in the Village
since the 80s. The new twostory block building will provide
more
opportunities
for
restaurants and office space,
offering more opportunities for
dining and shopping.
Bennett/ Glendora (Purkiss)
Yet another opportunity in the
Village is known as the Glendora
Lofts. The City has approved the
design and the developer is
completing final construction
plans for City approval. The
project entails 5,000 square feet
of office and retail space and 8
loft units. Construction bids are
currently being sought.
Vacant lots, empty run-down
spaces, underutilized property
are in the process of transformation. A renaissance is
happening in Glendora, new life
and vitality will be the result!

Girl Scout of the Year Award
SAN GABRIEL-The American Legion Auxiliary offers a National "Girl Scout of the Year"
award each year, and local Units
are inviting eligible Girl Scouts
to submit an application for the
award which involves a $1,000
college scholarship and trip to the
American Legion Auxiliary National Convention in August,
2007.
To be eligible, the Scout must
have received the Gold Award,
be an active member of her religious institution and have received the appropriate emblem,
demonstrate practical citizenship
in church, school, scouting and
the community, and must have
reached at least the 9th grade.

11th, 2007.

Garcia Extradition
WASHINGTON, D.C. —
Congressman David Dreier (RGlendora), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, applauded news that the suspected
killer of Los Angeles County
Deputy Sheriff David March was
turned over to U.S. authorities
January 9.
Congressman Dreier was notified by Mexican Government
officials that Armando Garcia
was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service to be tried for the
murder of Deputy David March,
who was killed in the line of duty
on April 29, 2002. Garcia, the
top suspect, fled to Mexico to
escape prosecution.
While Mexican law enforcement, with the help of U.S. Marshals, successfully arrested
Garcia on February 23, 2006, he
had used legal appeals to delay
his extradition. All legal attempts
by Garcia to avoid being extra-
dited have now been exhausted
and he will finally face justice in
the U.S.
"It has been a long time coming, but the day is finally here
when the March family will see
justice in the tragic murder of
David March," Dreier said. "Everyone involved in the struggle
to bring this killer to justice must
be recognized, especially the law
enforcement community - those
who found and arrested Garcia
in Mexico, and those who will
prosecute him in Los Angeles."
Congressman Dreier is the
author of legislation to make it a
federal crime to kill a peace officer and flee the country to escape prosecution. He is also a
champion of reevaluating the U.S.
- Mexico Extradition Treaty in
order to allow prosecutors the
ability to prosecute suspected
murderers who cross the border
for their crimes.
834 DUI Arrests -And Still Rising
L.A. County Law Enforcement DUI Task Forces Ends
Holiday Campaign
LOS ANGELES — On Monday, January 1, the Los Angeles
County DUI Task Forces
wrapped up their holiday crackdown with a preliminary count
of 834 arrests for DUI. That
number is expected to rise as
stats continue to roll in.
For the past eighteen days,
law enforcement throughout Los
Angeles County has been campaigning to caution the public
about the consequences of
drinking and driving, as well as
arresting those who ignored the
message and drove drunk. The
education and enforcement activities included 24 checkpoints
and 31 saturation patrols
throughout the county supporting the California state campaign,
"Report Drunk Drivers - Call 91-1" which is running concurrent with the national, "Drunk
Driving. Over the Limit. Under
Arrest." campaign sponsored by
the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
Enforcement and public
awareness activities are funded
by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) with multiagency Avoid grants and the
Checkpoint Mini-grant programs
which were awarded to several
of the county's agencies.

in proclaiming January 11, 2007,
as “National Human Trafficking
Awareness Day” throughout Los

thanked the “March Against Terror,” organization and the broad
coalition of local faith-based
groups and community organi-

zations for raising the public conscience and expanding the
nation’s efforts to combat trafficking. Antonovich called human trafficking an offense
against humanity and said that
nearly 800,000 women, children
and men are trafficked across
national boundaries each year. He
noted that one year ago, President Bush signed H.R. 972, the
Trafficking Victims Protection
Act – to expand our nation’s efforts to combat trafficking and
help its victims to find physical,
mental, emotional, and spiritual
restoration.

I had the following sent to me.
Apparently a weather man had
some interesting remarks with
his commentary in his weather
bulletin.

Up here, in the “ Mile-Hi City,
we just recovered from a historic event—may I even say a
“Weather Event” of “Biblical Proportions” — with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow
and winds to 90MPH that broke
trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of
motorists in lethal snow banks,
closed ALL roads, isolated scores
of communities and cut power
to tens of thousands.
FYI:George Bush did not
come. FEMA did nothing. No
one howled for the government.
No one blamed the government.
No one even uttered an expletive
on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al
Sharpton did not visit. Our
Mayor did not blame Bush or
anyone else. Our Governor did
not blame Bush or anyone else,
either.
CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or
NBC did not visit - or report on
this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit
cards. No one asked for a FEMA
Trailer House. No one looted.
Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do
something. Nobody expected
the government to do anything,
either. No Larry King, No Bill
O’Reilly, No Oprah, No Chris
Mathews and No Geraldo
Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No
Barbra Striesand and No Hollywood types to be found.
Nope, we just melted the snow
for water. Sent out caravans of
SUV’s to pluck people out of
snow engulfed cars. The truck

drivers pulled people out of snow
banks and didn’t ask for a penny.
Local restaurants made food and
the police and fire departments
delivered it to the snowbound
families.
Families took in the stranded
people - total strangers. We fired
up wood stoves, broke out coal
oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.
We put on extra layers of clothes
because up here it is “Work or
Die”.
We did not wait for some affirmative action government to
get us out of a mess created by
being immobilized by a welfare
program that trades votes for
‘sittin at home’ checks. Even
though a Category “5” blizzard
of this scale has never fallen this
early, we know it can happen and
how to deal with it ourselves.

noticed that once one gets north
of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world’s social
problems evaporate.”
It does seem that way, at
least to me. I hope this gets
passed on.
Maybe SOME people will get
the message. The world does

Shaffer and his article regarding
Universal Health Care and how
important all Americans recognize how our present day Health
Insurance has left our country
deteriorating in quality and leaving employers and employees
with costs unbearable. Unfortunately, statistics show we rate
37th in Health Care, something
we should all be ashamed of and
these numbers come from The
Human Resources Committee a
world wide organization who
developed those figures.
Worse yet our Congress, Senate, President and all their help
are provided Health Care Programs we the tax Payer must
foot the bill for, is it any wonder
our Representatives could care
less about such statistics?
The Insurance Companies
along with a multitude of lobbyists spending their time and
money coercing these people
who continue to have difficulty
in addressing the issue of Health
Care as it worsens.
Too often those persons who
never complain often can well afford the cost of their Insurance
Policies and because they occupy those high precipices in
American life, manage to bad
mouth those of us who look and
criticize Health Care as it now
fails those least able to afford
those exorbitant costs that have
now escalated out of control.
It's also estimated that 35% of
the costs in Health Care comes
from the mounds of paper work
involved in processing the work
done.
The Harry and Louise scenario
the professor refers to was orchestrated by the Insurance
Companies in their attempt to
thwart the American people and
our well paid legislators from incorporating Universal Health
Care.
Consider if you will, if the
American people finally take control of the costs and management of their health, how much
better we could be in Health and
stand proud among those other
world powers who have already
developed higher standards in
health care for one another.
Good Health Care really means
you care for your fellow American, surely having 46 million
Americans without Health Care
is a disgrace in my opinion.
I urge you one and all, to write
or call your Congressman and
Senator and put them on short
notice if they don't get busy and
hear you out about adopting Universal Health Care.
Negligent Handling of City
Funds by City Council

Glendora
At a recent televised Glendora
Council meeting the City Manager stated the Council has been
grossly negligent in not keeping
track of funds collected from
Glendorans.
For years the Council approved charges to residents residing in the Historical District for
maintenance of antique light
poles in North Glendora. These
funds are gone and the Council
doesn't know where the money
went. The light poles have deteriorated and need substantial repairs.
The Council now wants to
assess homeowners in the Historical District thousands of dollars each to pay for the needed
maintenance and repairs that
should have been paid from the
money previously collected from
residents. If that doesn't work,
they want to spread the costs
around the entire City.
Council Members Tessitor,
Clifford and Herman have been
in office six years. They approve
the budget and only they can approve spending. Only the Council can transfer money out of the
account set up for money collected from the residents in the
Historical District. It is they who
obviously directed the funds collected from residents to be used
for something else. This is not
only incompetence, but malfeasance and these Council Members, Tessitor, Clifford and
Herman should be held accountable for their callous disregard
for their duties.
It is apparent that this trio has
so badly managed Glendora's finances that they are robbing from
one account to make up for
shortages in others. A good example of this is they have used
money from the fees collected
from residents for water to improperly pay for non water related expenses.
As if this isn't bad enough,
after a recent 327% increase in
our water rates, they now plan
to raise the rates again.

The Glendora Planning Commission will have an hearing on
RV parking and storage ordinance at their regular meeting on

The U.S-Mexican Totalization Agreement

Several columns back, I informed you of Presidente Jorge
del Arbusto's plan to meld the
U.S., Canada and Mexico into the
North American Union. There's
much more to be said about this
-- including plans to implant
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification ) microchips into ALL
Americans. But, that's the subject for a future column.
This week, I'm going to reveal something both U.S. and
Mexican governments DON'T
WANT YOU TO KNOW. Especially those of you who THINK
you're going to BENEFIT from
SOCIAL SECURITY! It's called
the U.S.-MEXICAN TOTALIZATION AGREEMENT. I suspect they call it this because,
ULTIMATELY, it TOTALLY will
WIPE OUT the sacrifices you
made, AND ABSORB the taxes
you contributed to provide a
meager Social Security adjunct
to retirement in your old age.
In all fairness, I must admit
that the U.S. has similar agreements with about 20 other countries. These balance-out, and
eliminate paying duplicate Social
Security taxes for LEGAL U.S.
workers in other lands, and foreigners who LEGITIMATELY
work in the U.S. However, the
U.S.-Mexican agreement is lop-

sided. It INCLUDES both legal
and ILLEGAL Mexican workers
in the U.S, and results in U.S.
taxpayers SUBSIDIZING ILLEGAL ALIEN RETIREMENTS
and benefits for THEIR FAMILIES -- even when the
ILLEGALS return to Mexico!
Here's how totalization agreements USUALLY work. Foreigners who work in the U.S., and
Americans who work in "partner" countries, can "total" the
number of quarters worked LEGALLY in the U.S. and partner
countries to qualify for Social
Security. Furthermore, they and
their employers need pay only
ONE SS tax, rather than one in
the U.S. and another in the
worker's country of origin. This
generally works well, because
workers from partner countries
LEGALLY enter the U.S. with
documents AUTHORIZING
them to work for a recognized
firm. Partner countries are INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS
with SS retirements EQUIVALENT to those of the U.S. Thus,
there is NO INCENTIVE for foreign workers to stay in the U.S.
and become vested in the U.S.
Social Security system.
Not so with Mexico. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, most Mexican
workers ENTERED the United
States ILLEGALLY, were NOT
affiliated with a corporation, previously lived in poverty and PAID
NO SOCIAL SECURITY taxes
in Mexico. There is NO BENEFIT FOR AMERICAN workers to participate in Mexican SS.
It takes 24 YEARS TO VEST,
and benefits CAN NOT EXCEED the amount a worker contributes. In contrast, it takes only
10 YEARS TO VEST in the U.S.
SS system. Low-paid workers
can WITHDRAW MUCH
MORE than they contributed.
Furthermore, Americans illegally
in Mexico CAN'T participate in
their SS program. Whereas,
Mexican ILLEGALS in the U.S.
-- which have DOUBLED in the
past 10 years, and now make up
50 percent of Mexicans living in
the U.S. and 69 percent of the
U.S. illegal population -- not only
can qualify for U.S. Social Security benefits, but BENEFITS
can also be APPLIED to their
FAMILIES living in Mexico! The
Government Accountability Office (GAO) states that the agreement is NOT thorough or well
documented, and that COSTS
OF BENEFITS to an INCREASING NUMBER of ILLEGAL
ALIENS and their FAMILIES
will "FAR EXCEED . . . original
actuarial estimates."
As we all know, the Social
Security Trust Fund is fast approaching BANKRUPTING INSOLVENCY, with a flood of
Baby Boomers soon hoping to
benefit from their years of sacrifice and ballooning SS taxes
hacked from their ever-shrinking take-home pay. The U.S.Mexican Totalization Agreement
will add TENS-OF-MILLIONS
more claimants -- mostly ILLEGAL aliens and their FAMILIES
-- to the almost empty Social
Security pot.
The agreement has not yet
become law. The U.S. Commissioner of Social Security and the
Director General of Mexican
Social Security Institute signed

the proposal on June 29, 2004.
It now awaits PRESIDENTE
JORGE DEL ARBUSTO's signature. If Congress DOES NOT
ACT within 60 days of submission, it will become law.
There's only ONE WAY TO
STOP this travesty. If you believe it is unfair to ALL American
taxpayers and catastrophic for
Social Security, DEMAND that
your Congressional representatives PASS H.RES. 720 disapproving it. On the other hand, if
you believe that it is a good idea
to let ILLEGAL ALIENS from
the Third World Nation to the
South DESTROY what we have
established for the benefit of
hard-working American citizens,
then I wish you a happy and
prosperous IRA/401(k) retirement.
Not to be outdone by
PRESIDENTE DEL ARBUSTO,
our own GOBERNADOR
ARNOLDO plans to provide
FREE health care insurance for
ALL children of California's ILLEGAL ALIENS. Guess who will
pay for this? ILLEGAL ALIENS
already cost Californians $10

Bill Gates' Philanthropy: More "Tainted Money"

A century ago the American
press was abuzz with the charge
of "tainted money." Critics leveled that phrase against philanthropic contributions from men
whose great wealth was considered to have been acquired
through questionable business
practices. Surprisingly, the term
hasn't resurfaced in criticism of
the massive charitable gifts made
recently by overly rich men.
But Bill Gates' money, and that
of the Wal-Mart heirs, Warren
Buffett, Eli Broad and a host of
other philanthropic entrepreneurs, is indeed tainted.
In 1905 industrialist John D.
Rockefeller gave the Congregational Church $100,000, an unusually large grant for that time.
His contribution touched off a
controversy over the role of the
wealthy as benefactors of public and private institutions.
Congregational pastor Washington Gladden condemned acceptance of the gift, charging
that Rockefeller's wealth was
morally corrupt. He had amassed
it through unethical business
practices, specifically through
secret rebates that unfairly
harmed his competition and
through the sweat and blood of
his workers. Gladden coined the
phrase, "tainted money."
The debate ended when
Rockefeller's growing charitable
grants overwhelmed the opposition. A $100,000 gift might be

rejected (it wasn't), but could
you really turn down several hundred million?
The media recently reported
major gifts by some of the
world's wealthiest men. Characterized as selfless philanthropists,
they've given billions to improve
libraries, advance education, seek
cures for diseases and provide
medical care for those without
it. Worthy actions all, and the
nation has applauded.
Microsoft's Bill Gates established a charitable foundation
with assets of $30 billion,
roughly 60% of his fortune. Last
summer financial wizard Warren
Buffett committed another $30
billion, estimated at 5/6 of his net
worth, to the Gates' charities.
The Gates Foundation alone can
now spend $3 billion annually.
Other wealthy Southern Californians have been more than
generous. Technology entrepreneur Fred Kavli is putting hun-
dreds of millions into establishing institutes for pure research
at major universities. Arnold
Beckman gave nearly half a billion to support several academic
institutions. Housing developer
Eli Broad recently gave millions
to improve education in Los Angeles schools.
How can you fault that? And
how could this money be
"tainted?"
Everyone will agree that a contribution from Enron's former
leaders ought to raise eyebrows.
Shouldn't charitable gifts coming from the lobbyists involved
in recent congressional scandals
be rejected? Could your church,
PTA or boy scout troop take a
donation from casino interests
without blinking?
That would be tainted money,
but that's not the nature of the
taint affecting Gates and his
group. There is a new kind of
taint that burdens philanthropy
today.
Big donors earmark their
grants for specific purposes,
usually the giver's pet passion.
If your organization wants the
money, it has to use it as required
by the benefactor. Tied to the
grant is often a requirement that
the recipient match the donor's
gift.
That's acceptable when the
philanthropist is a classical music lover and your favorite classical radio station is in the midst
of a pledge drive.
But what happens when the
recipient is the public school system, and the rich benefactor
stipulates that $10 million, which
the schools must match, has to
go to a charter school or he'll
give the money elsewhere?
This is the case with much of
the largess now being offered to
promote "public" education. The
Gates/Buffett grants require
matching funds. Kavli offers a
university millions to set up research institutes but only if his
money is matched. While an institute is desirable, some other
equally important project may be
ignored because the school
doesn't want to lose the money.
The real interest of these philanthropists is evident in their
other contributions: to groups
advocating school vouchers, tuition tax credits and alternative
schools.
Fighting malaria is a worthwhile goal, but why should
Gates's billions determine for
government that eradication of
malaria is more important than
eliminating some other dreadful
ailment? And why should he
choose on what continent we
make our first move?
If some tycoon offers billions
for stem cell research provided
that the government matches his
funds, should those who oppose
government funding swallow
their principles and give in?
It takes money to improve
education, but the dollars should
come from the taxpayers who
created the public school system.
Decisions in public health, education, and a host of other services related to the general welfare ought to remain in the
people's hands.
When we turn to the Walton
family or to Eli Broad, we surrender our role in running our
own institutions. When government seeks handouts from a select few, those few will decide
what is best for all of us.

Ellison and the Qur'an: A Great American Story

O
n January 4,
2000, when
Representative-elect Keith
Ellison (DMN) put his hand on the Qur'an
and took the oath of office, he
made US history.
As the first American Muslim
elected to federal office, and the
first African American elected to
Congress from Minnesota,
Ellison sends a clear message to
the world about American diversity and our values of acceptance and inclusion that have
made us strong.
Despite all that is significant
about this event, Ellison's decision to use the Qur'an at his
swearing-in ceremony provoked
criticism from a handful of near
hysterical bigots who don't
know or value the lessons of
American history.
Representative Virgil Goode
(R-VA), for example, warned of
a future where "there will likely
be many more Muslims elected
to Congress and demanding use
of Qur'an."
Radio talkshow host Dennis
Prager, warned of "the Islamization of America" and said that in

using the Qur'an, Ellison "undermines American civilization."
Prager, among others, also suggested that the Christian Bible
ought to be required.
Let's look at the facts:
Most members of Congress
use no book at all when taking
their oath.
They simply stand by their
desks, raise their right hand and
are sworn-in. Only those members who choose to participate
in a "photo-op" swearing-in ceremony at the Speaker's office
will bring a book.
Some Christians will bring a
family Bible. Some Jewish members may bring their sacred
scriptures. Ellison is bringing
his.
Most intriguing here, the
Qur'an Ellison brought to his
mock swearing-in was once the
personal copy of none other than
Thomas Jefferson, the third
president of the United States.
America's founders had a more
profound respect for religious
diversity than many of their latter-day disciples.
George Washington championed freedom of worship for
"Mohametens, Jews, Christians
of any sect, or Atheists". Ben
Franklin shared this belief, as
well.
In using Jefferson's Qur'an,
Ellison smartly reminds all
Americans of their founding fathers' convictions and the values
they embraced that shaped the
new American republic.
It is disturbing to me that so
many conservatives have forgotten these values, putting the
unique character of America at
risk. (It is also ironic that Rep.
Goode represents the very district from which Jefferson
hailed).
Also troubling to me is that
Ellison's critics are not only ignorant of our nation's history,
they also know nothing about the
Qur'an. They've either never
read it or have only read commentaries by those who have an
axe to grind against all things
Muslim.
If they had taken the time to
read this book they would have
found, for example, that the God
of the Qur'an is the same as the
God of the Old and New Testaments. (The Arabic word for
God is Allah. Arab Christians,
for example, use the same word
for God!) And Allah, in the
Qur'an, is just and forgiving, demanding and merciful. Above all,
Allah is the creator and sustainer
of the universe and humankind.
But for bigots, all this won't
matter. Blinded by their fear or
hatred of Islam, their line of argumentation appears to be no
more sophisticated than something like: "It's not up to me to
have read it; he shouldn't be using it" or "I don't have to read it;
I've read about it" or "Don't you
know we are at war with them?"
My response to my fellow
Americans, especially those who
are confused or disturbed by this
great event: Take a deep breath
and think about the richness of
American history and the deep
symbolism of this moment. An
African American, descended of
slaves, was sworn into the 110th
Congress using Thomas
Jefferson's own Qur'an. That,
if anything, is a great American
story.
It deserves to be celebrated.
It is now part of our nation's history. In becoming the first,
Ellison, like Jackie Robinson, has
made us all richer and better. His
election tells extremists (both at
home and abroad) that America
is bigger than they can imagine
it to be.

Howard Zinn - The Mother Of All America-Hating Useful Idiots
Perhaps more ubiquitous than
even Noam Chomsky is Howard
Zinn, professor emeritus (of
American history, or at least his
version of American history)
from Boston University, author,
as previously noted, of A People's
History of the United States. In
this Stalinist version of our history, Zinn catalogs every misdeed of America; indeed, from
reading this travesty of our history one finds it difficult to escape the conclusion that America
is itself a misdeed. To say that
this historical piece of garbage
is an historical distortion is to
put the case in its most generous light. The financial equivalent of Zinn's rendering would be
to have your accountant prepare
a statement of your net worth,
using only your liabilities (i.e.,
omitting any reference to your
assets). Unfortunately, Zinn's
version of our history is the one
that now prevails in our educational system (at both the public
school and college levels). I say
more ubiquitous because he is to
be found wherever a crticism is
being made of America. For example, he wrote the foreword to
Cindy Sheehan's recent publication; he also wrote the foreword
to John Tirman's tome on 100
Ways America Is Screwing Up
the World (in which he was also
praised for his efforts in the
cause of anti-Americanism); and
was mentioned on the back of
one of David Griffin's demented
screeds about George Bush's
having produced 9/11 (specifically, The New Pearl Harbor Disturbing questions about the
Ken Eliasberg
Bush Administration and 9/11).
As previously noted, wherever
the so-called "intellectual" forces
in opposition to America gather
you will find Zinn or some indication of his approval of the effort.
How to explain or interpret
Zinn? Here are some reactions of
those who have made an effort
to do so. Michael Lewis, in his
review of Bill Bennett's latest stab
at American History, America,
The Last Best Hope [which indeed it is] in the December issue
of Commentary magazine made
the following observation:
"For Zinn, the United States
was not so much a democratic
republic, governed by an imperfect though vigorous political
process, as a criminal conspiracy, conceived in greed and
genocide, and maintained by exploitation, oppression, and systematic mendacity (including that
perpetrated by traditional American historians)."
Daniel Flynn, in Intellectual
Morons - how ideology makes
smart people fall for stupid ideas,
Crown Forum Publisher, 2004
puts Zinn in the following light:
"If you've read Marx, there's
no reason to read Howard Zinn.
The activist professor relies on
Marx's single-bullet theory of
history ('The history of all hitherto existing societies is the history of class struggle') to explain
all of American history. Economics determines everything. Why
study history when theory has
all the answers?
* * * * *
Every author makes mistakes.
Zinn, it seems, would make
fewer of them if he used his mind
rather than his ideology to do his
thinking."
David Horowitz, in his monograph The Political Assault On
America's Universities (2006),
describes Zinn in the following
manner:
" Howard Zinn is a wellknown radical who supported
the Soviet empire during the Cold
War, and whose book describes
America as a repressive state run
by a corporate ruling class for
the benefit of the wealthy. According to Zinn, the root causes
of social injustice are private
property and private corporations, the very foundations of
America's legal, political and
business systems. According to
Zinn, America is the world's
'greatest terrorist state' and the
terrorists America faces are victims of American imperialism and
oppression and thus 'freedom
Fighters.' Furthermore, in Zinn's
view, the entire American system
of government and its laws
should be overthrown, by violent means if necessary, and replaced with a socialist system."
[Well, unlike the rest of the
Democrat establishment, at least
Zinn is honest about his objectives].
I could go on (and on) with
how others view Zinn, but let me
give you a chance to draw your
own conclusions - Zinn in his
own words. In September, Dennis Prager interviewed Zinn (see
What a Fool Believes: Howard
Zinn, Parts 1 and 2,
FrontPageMagazine.com, September 12 and 19, 2006), and
Zinn's response to some of
Prager's questions is really quite
illuminating. For example, in response to Prager's question as to
whether America has "done more
bad than good, we're in the
middle, or what?", Zinn opined:
"Probably more bad than good.
We've done some good, of
course; there's no doubt about
that. But we have done too many
bad things in the world. You
know, if you look at the way we
have used our armed forces
throughout our history: first destroying the Indian communities
of this continent and annihilating
Indian tribes, then going into the
Caribbean in the Spanish-American War, going to the Philippines,
taking over other countries, not
establishing democracy but in
many cases establishing dictatorship, holding up dictatorships in
Latin America and giving them
arms, and you know, Vietnam,
killing several million people for
no good reason at all, certainly
not for democracy or liberty, and
continuing down to the present
day with the war in Iraq…" or,

in response to Prager's question
"[I]f, let's say Europeans never
came to North America and it
was left in the hands of the American indigenous Indians, do you
think the world would be a better place? [Zinn] I'd have no way
of knowing."
In evaluating Zinn's reaction
to whether war is ever the best
moral choice, Zinn replied, quite
simply, "No." Prager: "Never, Not
even aginst Hitler?"
Zinn: Well, I'm not sure about
WWII" - - - "The point is that
war is the worst possible solution."
No, war is not the worst possible solution - surrender is. This
war-is-not-the- answer nonsense
must, of necessity, depend on
what the question is, and, of
course, what the alternative is.
If the alternative is surrender to
either the Nazis in WWII or radical Islam today, then it's clear at least to me, and, I'd like to
think, to most Americans - that
war is not only an acceptable
response but the only appropriate response. No one wants or
likes war, but freedom isn't always free, and there are occasions when one must fight to
preserve it. One wonders
whether there are any situations
that, in the eyes of the left, - particularly the academic left where a a fight is the most appropriate response; their foreign
policy response to any conflict
in which a confrontation of some
sort might be appropriate seems
to be a combination of ignorance
and cowardice.

The Federal Reserve And The Chairman

In A Nutshell
Now that we are in the New
Year, I thought it would be interesting to write about the new
Federal Reserve Chairman and
what we have learned about him
so far. Ben Bernanke has brought
his own stamp to the office of
Fed Chairman, different in many
ways from Greenspan's approach. These changes affect the
Fed's conduct of policy and will
have a far reaching impact on the
economics of our country in the
years ahead. There are currently
five issues that we now know and
can identify about the new Chairman that are worth mentioning.
1. Low profile. Bernanke has
presented 27 speeches and testimony this past year, compared
with 34 by Greenspan in his last
year as Chairman. Bernanke discusses policy, but he tends to
reiterate the FOMC's latest announcement rather than offering
his own opinion. By maintaining
a lower profile, he has elevated
the public stature of the other
governors and regional presidents.
2. Less emphasis on the staff.
When Greenspan ran the Fed, he
spent hours huddled with the Fed
staff, perfecting economic and
market models. Bernanke has in
this past year proven he is less
involved in discussing matters
with the Fed staff than Greenspan
was. The Fed's economists are

likely thrilled to have a little freedom, but their role at the central
bank will be diminished as a result.
3. Democracy at the meetings. Greenspan cooked up
policy plans with the staff and
brought them to the FOMC for
a vote. Only rarely did they defy
him. Bernanke comes to the
room with ideas, but not a set
agenda. Instead, he runs an "balance of power" meeting, soliciting input on everything, including language in the Fed's statement. The Fed has gone to a
regular two-day schedule to allow for the additional conversation.
4. Less emphasis on preemptive policy. Greenspan had
great respect for the policy lag.
He knew it takes time for the
economy to respond to changes
in interest rates, and that it takes
even longer for inflation to come
around. Policy in the late-Eighties and Nineties was made with
an eye two years down the road.
Bernanke's emphasis on inflation
targeting has encouraged a more
backward-looking emphasis.
5. Less emphasis on managing the latest crisis. Greenspan
eased (lowered interest rates) to
prevent fallout from the stock
market crash of 1987. He cut
rates again to alleviate the Asian
foreign exchange crisis of 1997
and again after the 9-11 terrorist
attacks. Bernanke has yet to be
tested by a financial crisis of this
magnitude, but his response to
the housing correction and his
academic writing suggests he is
more likely to take a hands-off
approach.
Looking ahead at what we can
expect in 2007, these subtle
changes add up to a slower acting Fed. The current Federal
Reserve appears convinced that
policy makers should be more
cautious when the forecast is
driven by events in one sector.
The Fed is unlikely to act quickly
as long as the slowdown is isolated to housing and housing related industries.
That is doubly true when certain members of the Fed and others are concerned about the current level of inflation. The committee watches a backward-fo-
cused 12-month trailing inflation
rate that is falling, but not fast
enough to satisfy the Fed. As one
member recently stated, "The
longer inflation remains too high,
the harder it will be to bring it
back to a desirable level."
This view reveals a change in
emphasis from the Greenspan
era. Greenspan was most concerned with getting the forecast
right, and then acted on the forecast. He convinced the FOMC
to cut rates in 1995 despite general reluctance to do so - even
though there was a rising core
inflation rate.
Bernanke instead seems most
concerned about what might
happen if the Fed is wrong. The
Fed acknowledges that policy is
tight and that the economy should
slow. But even in December, he
warned that the risk of inflation

per-person amount of qualified
long-term care premiums you
can include, ranging from $280
to $3,530, depending on your
age.

between a 401(k) vs. a Roth

401(k)’s and Roth IRA’s each
offer something worthwhile, but
are different.
Figure out how much you can
contribute to your 401(k) to max
out your employer’s match, then
invest the maximum allowable in
a Roth IRA.
401(k)s are funded with pretax dollars while Roth IRA’s are
funded with money you’ve already paid tax on. 401(k) money
is taxed when withdrawn, but
Roth IRA money is not. 401(k)
money is subject to Required
Minimum Distributions, but
Roth IRA’s are not. Contributions to your 401(k) is tax deductible from your gross income;
Roth IRA’s are not. 401(k)s have
higher contribution limits than
Roth IRAs. Sometimes employees match a percentage of your
401(k) contributions, but there’s
no match to your Roth IRA.
There are variations to the
above, too, depending on
whether or not you qualify based
on your Adjusted Gross Income,
and your age. Some employers
have started to offer a Roth

One way to judge the policy
stance is to compare the federal
funds rate to the rate of growth
of nominal GDP. As CNBC's
Steve Liesman recently explained, when interest rates are
lower than GDP growth, "any
idiot can make money" by borrowing and investing in a cross
section of the economy, which
should generate returns at the
same rate as economic growth.

Dreier Introduces Key Bills on Opening Day
WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman David Dreier (RGlendora), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, has
introduced several pieces of legislation today aimed at enhancing our border security and meeting local needs in the Foothills.
Dreier said he looked forward to
working with his colleagues, Republicans and Democrats, to secure passage of these bills.
"As the 110th Congress begins, border security, economic
growth, and meeting local needs
remain my top priorities," Dreier
said.
"I will be reintroducing my
bipartisan legislation to make the
Social Security card counterfeit
proof and crack down on the
hiring of illegal immigrants. I
believe this legislation must be a
critical component of any legislation aimed at fixing the broken
immigration system in this country. Also to be introduced today
will be two bills key to maintaining a safe, reliable water supply

Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Social Security
Act - This bill deals with stopping illegal immigration by addressing the issue of too many
unreliable documents, a faulty
employment verification system,
and lax enforcement.
The legislation amends the
Immigration and Nationality Act
to enforce restrictions on employment in the United States of
unauthorized aliens through the
use of improved Social Security
cards and an Employment Eligibility Database.
Inland Empire Regional
Water Recycling Initiative This bill authorizes $30 million
for the Inland Empire Utilities
Agency and the Cucamonga Valley Water District to produce
approximately 100,000 acre feet
of new recycled water annually
to reduce our dependence on
expensive imported water.

funds to clean up perchlorate
contamination in the Valley. With

million, the WQA has made significant progress in keeping our
drinking water safe.
The continuing need to aggressively clean up our drinking
water supply requires an additional $50 million in authorized

Preschool, Family Literacy Providers
Additional State Funding to Serve Up to 4,000 L.A. County Kids
LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria
Molina announced the availability of over $13 million in state
monies for Los Angeles County
family literacy providers offering pre-kindergarten services for
four-year-olds. The fundingwhich is part of a $55 million
statewide effort through the State
of California's Department of
Education-will be awarded via a
competitive process and could
serve close to 4,000 children
throughout Los Angeles County.
"Both preschool experience
and family literacy are key factors when projecting the academic success of a child, and the
demand for such services is high
in Los Angeles County," Molina
said. "So it is critical that we get
the word out to providers that
this additional funding is available
to them-especially since special

Business California (SB-Cal) released a position paper outlining
its stand on health care reform.
The top issue for small business
is reducing the cost of health insurance. The position paper can

"For small businesses issue
number one is the cost of providing healthcare." Said Scott
Hauge, the president of Small
Business California. He went on
to say, "For the last two years
we have done a survey of the
issues most important to small
business and found that the number one issue is the cost of health

Small businesses believe that
any health care reform package
must contain:
* A basic package of coverage, which will provide for necessary benefits. Along the lines
proposed in Health Researcher
Marge Ginsberg's booklet called
"Just Coverage".
* Group purchasing must be
developed, expanded and encouraged. This will take advantage of
federal funding and reduce administrative costs.
* Provide guaranteed insurance coverage, regardless of the
health condition, to all Californians. This would include over
2,000,000 sole proprietors.
* Health care providers must
be evaluated and recommended
based on outcomes; not the current system that just pays for
procedures regardless of how
successful these procedures are
to the health of the individual.
* Moving to the use of electronic records is crucial to the
reduction of cost.
* Health insurance premiums
must be deductible on federal and
state taxes. This would give individuals purchasing insurance a
tax break like businesses currently enjoy.

SAN GABRIEL — The American Legion Auxiliary has a long commitment to the youth of our
nation and has an extensive scholarship program available to high school students. To be eligible, the
applicant must be a child of a veteran of the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Granada or Panama Conflicts, Desert Storm/Desert Shield, or is currently on active duty, and a resident of California. The

Martin Luther King Jr. Honored
With Community Beautification
DUARTE — A major theme
in the life of the late Rev. Martin
Luther King, Jr. was to urge
people to join hands and work
together for positive change. For
the fifth year, to commemorate
King's birthday, Duarte teens,
members of the local business
community, City staff, school
district, and others will honor
King's legacy by setting their
hands on shovels and rakes and
planting greenery to help beautify an area of the city The 6th
Annual Martin Luther King, Jr.
Beautification Project, sponsored
by Duarte's Promise: The Alliance for Youth, will kickoff at
8:30 a.m. on Saturday, January
20, 2007 with a continental
breakfast provided by IHOP at
the Duarte High School Cafeteria. A special Martin Luther King,
Jr. Day program, hosted by
Duarte Mayor Lois Gaston, will
feature Pastor R. O. Crocker of
the First Baptist Church of
Duarte, guest speaker Pamela
Russell, who will talk about the
life and impact of the late Baptist
minister and civil rights leader.
The First Baptist Church of
Duarte Youth Choir will also perform.
Volunteers will then walk to
1565 E. Central Ave. to plant
twenty four, five-gallon purple
fountain grass bushes, twenty
four, five-gallon Mexican sage,
and complete soil prep work.
The Cal-American Water Co. has
donated the plants and provided
both bottled water and volunteers
for the event as well.
The annual MLK Beautification Project is one of a number
of special projects, programs and
events sponsored by Duarte's
Promise - the Alliance for Youth.

Center (PRC) in a network of

PRC works closely with a local

interventions. Nine PRCs belong to a Healthy Aging Network that collaborates on the
best ways to promote health for
older adults and transform research results into sustainable
community programs.
The
University
of
Washington's Health Promotion
Research Center (HPRC), for
example,
developed
EnhanceFitness, a physical activity curriculum for older adults
that improves flexibility and
strength and is shown to reduce
hospital visits by participants.
The program is now offered at
92 sites in nine states. The
HPRC also developed a counseling program that reduces minor depression in seniors.

Senate Fellowships Available
GLENDORA — Senator Margett (R-Glendora) announced the availability of applications for the 20072008 California Senate Fellows program.
The program provides college graduates an opportunity to become full-time Senate staff members at the
State Capitol in Sacramento for 11 months beginning in
October 2007. Fellows are assigned to the personal or
committee staff of a Senator and also participate in academic seminars with Senators, senior staff, journalists,
lobbyists, and state government officials. The fellowship program is operated jointly by the California State
Senate and the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS).
"Being a Fellow provides an excellent opportunity to
gain first-hand knowledge of the legislative process,"
said Senator Margett. "Whether your career goals are in
the public or private sector, the Senate Fellows program provides valuable training that can be applied to all
walks of life," he added. Former Senate Fellows include
current members of Congress and the California Legislature, judges, and numerous other elected officials and
community leaders
Fellows will experience the broad range of activities
conducted in busy Senate offices. Responsibilities include researching public policy issues, helping develop
legislative proposals, analyzing and staffing legislation,
assisting with constituent inquiries and casework, participating in meetings as the Senator's representative,
writing press releases and speeches, and performing
other delegated tasks. A five week orientation at the beginning of the program provides background on state
government, the legislative process, and major policy
issues.
Fellows are paid a stipend of $1,972 per month plus
health, vision, and dental benefits. They earn 12 units
of graduate credit from CSUS for the academic portion
of the program. Anyone who will be at least 20 years of
age and a graduate of a four-year college or university

Let's Talk About Diabetes

Most people feel that if they do not
have a relative with diabetes, then chances
are they will not get diabetes. It is a `if I
do, I do, if I don't, I don't attitude. Most
don't even know the difference between
Type I and Type II Diabetes.
Type I is an autoimmune disease and
usually strikes children or young adults
because their bodies do not produce the
insulin that is needed to control it.
Type II does not produce enough .insulin and cells ignore the insulin that is
made, and this causes the glucose to build
up in the blood.
Diabetes is a long-term disease that
disrupts the body's ability to use a sugar
called glucose. It also hampers use of
other nutrients, such as protein and fat.
The formal medical term for the disease
is diabetes mellitus. Glucose is a common product of digestion. It circulates in
the blood to the body's cells, where it is
one of the chief sources of energy. Diabetes disrupts the body's mechanisms for
moving glucose out of the bloodstream
and using it in cells. As a result, levels of
blood glucose-also called blood sugar, stay
excessively high, leading to serious complications over time.
High blood glucose levels directly affect the eyes, kidneys, and nervous system. In addition, diabetes increases risk
of atherosclerosis. This condition narrows arteries, especially those that carry
blood to the heart, brain, and legs. Diabetes affects more than 100 million people
worldwide. It is among the most common causes of death and disability in North
America and Europe.
Over 40 million people in the United
States have prediabetes, where the blood
sugar levels are higher than normal, but
not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.
Some of the contributing factors are
being overweight, having a family history
of diabetes, and gestational diabetes
caused by giving birth to a baby over nine
pounds, and being of Latino, Hispanic,
Asian, Pacific Islander or Native American.
If diabetes becomes` out of control it
can affect nearly all organs of the body,
primarily because it is a vascular disease
causing all bodily systems to be at risk. It
adds to heart disease and puts a person at
risk of stroke; about 70% of diabetics die
of coronary disease. Diabetes can cause
acquired blindness and end-stage kidney
disease, peripheral nerve damage such as
numbness and tingling in the hands and
feet, or affect the autonomic nerve system, which affects the bladder, the intestines, sexual function, damage to the circulatory system, and foot ulcers.
So, loose-weight, watch your diet and
be physically active, especially if you
have, or your children have a genetic propensity toward diabetes. Do not ignore
the possibility that you may be one of the
40 million with prediabetes.

Publishing Bill Puts
Medical Research At Risk
Publish or perish may be true in
academia, but it is not true when it comes
to scientific and medical articles that have
not gone through peer review.
The nation's oldest consumer group is
warning that a proposal for the government to post scientific and medical articles on the Internet "is significantly likely
to backfire," and could jeopardize the
quality-control process medical research
goes through before being published.
The National Consumers League
(NCL) alerted members of the U.S. Senate on December 1st about problems with
the Federal Research Public Access Act
of 2006, which would force medical and
scientific journals to turn over some of
their articles to the government for
reposting on the Internet.
In a letter from NCL President Linda
F. Golodner to Sen. John Cornyn (RTexas), the bill's chief architect, the group
warned that the measure "would transform the peer review, quality control system at the heart of today's American medical research program into an unfunded
mandate."
A Risky Idea
"When it comes to developing cures
for cancer, heart disease or diabetes, or
addressing other fundamental challenges
to the health of our families and children,
we cannot afford this risk," Golodner
wrote to Sen. Cornyn, along with Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) and
Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who are co-sponsors of the bill.
Peer review is the process by which
medical and scientific experts examine
research to determine its accuracy, and
is used to separate pure science from
"junk science." The concern is that if
medical journals are forced to give away
their articles to the government, researchers and others would read the free articles posted on the Internet rather than
pay for a subscription to such journals.
"After having made the investment in
quality control, the journal would be
forced to have its publication rights for
the article eclipsed by the federal government long before recouping its cost,"
which has been estimated at nearly $200
million per year, according to industry
sources.
Public May Be Chief Loser
The NCL is concerned that the bill
could put peer review journals out of business, a move that would lower the standards for medical and scientific research.
"The chief loser, should these concerns
materialize, would be the public at large,
the consumers who benefit from scientific and medical research," warned the
NCL.

The City of Glendora announces that the AMENDED ANNUAL ACTION PLAN (2006-2007) as required by the
Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 is available for public review beginning on January
11, 2007. In addition, the City of Glendora hereby announces the AMENDMENT OF THE 2006-2007 ONE YEAR
ACTION PLAN AND AMENDMENT OF THE 2002-2007 CONSOLIDATED PLAN FOR THE CITY OF GLENDORA'S

The 2006-2007 Annual Action Plan functions as an annual application for federal funds under U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) formula grant programs, specifically, the Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG), Program.
The Draft of the Annual Action Plan (2006-2007) incorporates that section of the Five Year Consolidated Plan
(2002-2007) that describes the strategy to carry out federal programs, indicates the general priorities for allocating
funds and describes the basis for assigning the funding to each priority need. The Glendora City Council has
approved the reprogramming of unexpended CDBG funding for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. The amendment of the
2006-2007 One-Year Action Plan and 2002-2007 Consolidated Plan will reflect the changes proposed for both
documents. The 2006-2007 One Year Action Plan includes a description of the activities, funded with HUD
Community Development formula grant funds that will be undertaken during the current year (July 1, 2006-June
30, 2007) to address priority needs. For fiscal year 2006-2007 the City of Glendora will receive a total of $353,842
in CDBG funds from HUD. In addition, the City will receive $509,000 in unallocated funds from Program Income
(deferred loan repayments). The total anticipated funds are projected to equal $862,842 for fiscal year 2006-2007.
The Glendora City Council and the Planning and Redevelopment Department staff are vitally interested in
improving and increasing communication with Glendora citizens in the areas of housing and community development.

Tax-Defaulted properties which are Subject to the
Power of Sale. Public notice is hereby given that
unless said properties are redeemed prior thereto, I
will, on February 26 and 27, 2007, at the hour of 9:00
a.m. at the Fairplex Los Angeles County Fairgrounds,
1101 W. McKinley Avenue, Building 8, Pomona, California, offer for sale and sell said properties at public
auction to the highest bidder for cash or cashier's
check in lawful money of the United States for not
less than the minimum bid. If no bids are received on
a parcel, it will be re-offered at the end of the auction
at a reduced minimum price.
The minimum bid for each parcel is the total amount
necessary to redeem, plus costs, as required by
Section 3698.5 of the Revenue and Taxation Code.
Prospective bidders should obtain detailed information of this sale from the County Tax Collector. Preregistration and a $5,000 deposit in form of cash,
cashier's check or bank issued money order is required at the time of registration. No personal checks,
two-party checks or business checks will be accepted
for registration. Registration will be from 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m., starting, Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at
the Treasurer and Tax Collector's Office, located at
225 North Hill Street, Room 130, Los Angeles, California and will end on Thursday, February 15, 2007,
at 5:00 p.m.

If the property is sold, parties of interest, as defined
by Section 4675 of the Revenue and Taxation Code,
have a right to file a claim with the County for any
proceeds from the sale, which are in excess of the

right to redeem has not previously been terminated,
will upon request be furnished by MARK J. SALADINO,

If redemption of the property is not made according
to the law before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23,
2007, which is the last business day prior to the first
day of auction, the right of redemption will cease.
