Bergen’s Top Lawyers
(201) Magazine is proud to present the results of the annual Bergen’s
Top Lawyers peer-review survey, conducted by Professional Research Services
(PRS) of Royal Oak, Mich. Thousands of attorneys throughout Bergen were
contacted by PRS and asked who they would recommend within the county in
given areas of law. Via an online ballot, each attorney was allowed to recommend up to three colleagues in each given legal specialty. (Note: The opinions
are not those of (201), North Jersey Media Group or any of its employees.)
Once the online nominations were complete, each nominee was carefully
evaluated on the basis of the survey results, the legitimacy of their license
and their current standing with the State Bar Association of New Jersey.
Attorneys who received the highest number of votes in each specialty are
listed on the following pages in alphabetical order.
This list is a resource for anyone seeking professional legal advice or
counsel, but by no means does it fully represent all of the fine lawyers in

FRANK P. LUCIANNA
Frank Lucianna, Esq., a criminal defense lawyer for almost 65 years and who
is 92 years of age, is so well regarded in the criminal courts that the people

notably received a verdict against a New Jersey municipality in the Riots of
1969. Besides cases in New Jersey and New York, he has represented clients
in Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He has defended clients in numerous
murder cases of every type, including death penalty cases. When discussing his
clients he makes the point that although it may not seem so on the surface,
“we are all different but all the same and some of the best people I’ve met
are in jail.”
Before his successful career began, Lucianna was captain of the track team
at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood and captain of the cross-country
team at Fordham University. He graduated from there in 1948 and received his

Germany and was forced down over Yugoslavia. Says Lucianna, “I am very
grateful to God that I got the opportunity to survive the war and meet such
wonderful people in the legal profession. I’m very fortunate in life, and I never
forget that. I’m very proud of the profession and to be in it, and I’m happy to
come to work every day with the wonderful young people in my office.”
Lucianna is especially proud of the people he is surrounded by in his
practice: Frank Carbonetti, who he calls “an outstanding young criminal
lawyer;” his daughter, Nancy Lucianna, “an outstanding criminal and civil
lawyer” with a separate law practice in Fort Lee; and his great daughter, Diana
Lucianna, a civil attorney and “the smartest person I know.” His daughter,

passed away eight years ago. On any given day Lucianna can be found in court
