In the last contest with the Rams in 2012, RB Adrian Peterson ran for 212 yards, including a career-high-tying 82-yard touchdown during his MVP season. Peterson and the Vikings won the game 36-22. Overall, the Vikings hold a 24-16-2 record against the Rams, dating back to their days in Los Angeles. Vikings Offensive Coordinator Norv Turner coached defensive backs at Southern California while Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher played for the Trojans during the 1980 season. The Vikings hold 29-23-1 record on opening day. In their first matchup since the 2010 season and their first in Minnesota since 2006, the Vikings host the Patriots in their regular season debut on the campus of the University of Minnesota and home opener in Week Two. The Patriots and Vikings have met up before on the campus of the University of Minnesota in the preseason opener on August 8, 1971 in a game played at Memorial Stadium. In their most recent contest the Patriots downed the Vikings 28-18 at Gillette Stadium. Brendan Daly, who most recently served as the Vikings defensive line coach from 2012-13, is a defensive assistant coach for the Patriots. New England has won seven of the 11 matchups with the Vikings and has a 2-2 record in Minnesota. In Week Three, the Vikings travel New Orleans trying to snap a three-game skid against the Saints. The Vikings hold an 8-7 record while playing at New Orleans. In the most recent Vikings-Saints game played in New Orleans, the Saints downed the Vikings 14-9 on Thursday Night Football during the 2010 Kickoff Weekend. Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer spent the 2007 season as the Falcons Defensive Coordinator before taking over the same position in Cincinnati, a post he held until joining the Vikings. The Minnesota Vikings travel to neighboring rival Green Bay Packers in Week Five in a nationally televised game on Thursday Night Football. The last matchup at Lambeau Field in Week 12 in 2013 ended in a tie for the second time in series history. In the tie, RB Adrian Peterson had one of his five 100-plus rushing yard games tallying 146 yards on 32 carries and K Blair Walsh earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after connecting on 4-of-4 on field goal attempts, including the game-tying field goal to extend the overtime period. Green Bay holds a 30-23-2 record when hosting the longstanding rivalry. The Lions, who lost to the Vikings, 14-13, in the Metrodome finale in Week 17 in 2013, travel to Minnesota in Week Six. In the 2013 matchup in Minnesota, WR Cordarrelle Patterson stole the show scoring both Vikings touchdowns, one on a 50-yard end around and the other on an eight-yard reception to give the Vikings a one-point victory. The Vikings hold a 38-13-1 record against the Lions in Minnesota, winning 15 of their last 16 home contests. The all-time series in games played in Tampa is dead even at 13-13 with the Vikings holding the overall series 31-22. The Vikings have an opportunity to even up the all-time series, which currently stands at 11-12 and 5-6 in Minnesota, in Week Nine. The Vikings have won three of their last four against the Redskins. After a last-second 31-30 loss in 2013, the Vikings are searching for their first victory at Chicago since 2007 when then-rookie RB Adrian Peterson ran for 224 and three touchdowns. The Vikings recorded two non-offensive touchdowns at Soldier Field last season with a 105-yard kickoff return touchdown by WR Cordarrelle Patterson and a 61-yard fumble return touchdown by DE Brian Robison. The border battle takes place at on the campus of the University of Minnesota for the first time in series history during Week 12. In the last matchup with Green Bay in Minnesota WR Cordarrelle Patterson took the opening kick 109 yards for a touchdown, marking the longest kickoff return and tying the longest play in NFL history. Green Bay eventually won the contest, 44-31, evening up the all-time series in games played in Minnesota at 26-26. In Week 13 the Panthers will visit Minnesota for the second consecutive season. Carolina, who is one of four playoff teams on the Vikings 2014 schedule, won last season’s Week 6 meeting in convincing fashion, 35-10. The Vikings added former Panther CB Captain Munnerlyn via free agency during the 2014 offseason. Munnerlyn, who played his first five seasons with the Panthers, played in 77 games while starting 50 during his career in Carolina. The Vikings hold a 6-5 edge, including a 5-3 mark at home, in the all-time series against the Panthers. Vikings T Matt Kalil and brother, Panthers C Ryan Kalil, will face each other for the second straight year. In Week 14, the Vikings welcome the New York Jets to Minnesota. The last time the two teams met was on Monday Night Football in a rainy contest that saw the Jets capture a 29-20 victory. In that game QB Brett Favre threw his historic 500th career touchdown pass to Randy Moss. The Jets own an 8-1 record all-time against the Vikings, including a 3-1 record in Minnesota. The Jets have secured seven straight victories over the Vikings dating back to 1979. The 2014 Vikings-Jets game is the 10th meeting in series history. The Vikings visit the Lions in Week 15 after opening the 2013 season at Detroit. RB Adrian Peterson took his first carry of the season 78 yards for a touchdown on the Vikings first offensive play of the season, but the Vikings couldn’t hold on, eventually dropping the regular season opener, 24-34. Minnesota possesses a 31-21-1 record all-time while playing at Detroit. For the first time in eight seasons the Vikings travel to South Beach for a Week 16 game against the Dolphins. The most recent matchup in the Dolphins-Vikings all-time series, which includes Super Bowl VII played in Houston, came in 2010 when Miami snuck out a 14-10 win in Minnesota. Miami owns the edge in the series with a 7-4 record all-time against Vikings, including a 3-1 record at home. Vikings Defensive Coordinator George Edwards returns to Miami where he coached linebackers from 2005-09 and again from 2012-13. In the regular season finale, the Vikings and Bears will match up at the University of Minnesota stadium for the second time series history. In 2010, the Bears and Vikings played on Monday Night Football on the campus of the University of Minnesota following the collapse of the Metrodome roof. The game, which was played December 20, 2010 was exactly 29 years to the date of the finale at the Met Stadium. The Vikings won last season’s game against the Bears at the Metrodome, 23-20, in an overtime thriller powered by Adrian Peterson’s season-high 211 rushing yards on a club-record 35 rushing attempts.
