The Board of Education is pleased to present its 2nd Annual Student Success Report. We could not be prouder of our students and the young adults they have become. We are repeatedly amazed at their goal setting
abilities and their tenacity to bring those goals to fruition. As you will see, our students are well-rounded,

attend the Congress of Future Medical
Leaders Program in Washington, D.C.


Katie Tieri organized a donation drive for
the Maria Shelter, helping women in
troubled circumstances.
Emily Papiez, John Rosales and Casey Wolff
presented their ongoing habitat restoration
project at the 6th Biennial Wild Things
Conference.

Darla Thomas received the Hugh O’Brien
Youth (HOBY) Leadership Scholarship.

Amber Holup planned a district-wide teen
leadership summit.

Laith Ahmad, Shiann Arthurs, Aaliyah Banks,
Jack Cascone, Eric Deasy, Gianni Hamilton,
Aaron Iverson, Erika Ludtke, Randell Newton
and Meera Patel provided input and
assistance to YOLOBE (Your Life Only Better),
a social network platform for teens that is
similar to LinkedIn.


Jack Cascone and Abby Simon received a
Distinguished Service Award from INSPRA
(Illinois Chapter of the National School Public
Relations Association) for their leadership in
transitioning feeder school 8th graders to our
high schools.
Eric Deasy participated in the Illinois Boys’
State Leadership Retreat at Eastern Illinois
University.
They are Winners!
In addition to their academic wins, our students are winners in activities, athletics and community organizations.
They set their sites high and continue to make us proud.














Jessica Sandoval was named a Commended Student in the
2015 National Merit Scholarship Program and a National
Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar from the College Board.
Brittany Condon and Nylle Graham were selected to be teen
correspondents for the pilot television show, “Paws for People
TV.”
Amir Al-Sheikh, Kirsten Birk, Rebecca Boswell, Patrick Cooke,
Nigere Epps, and Matthew Sinwelski were State Qualifiers in
Mathletes.
Brian Swanson received a three-sport athletic award for
football, wrestling, and track and field.
Elijah Reed was one of 42 teens chosen nationwide to
participate in the Air Force Academy’s Diversity Visitation
Program.
Kennedy Warfield was selected to have her artwork displayed at the Museum of Science and Industry.
Taylor Aldridge, Hala Al-Sheikh and Nicole McCormick participated in “Students at Sessions,” a project of the
American Heart Association.
Maddie Baxa was the Girls Basketball SSC Player of the Year.
Jacqueline Villarreal received the South Suburban College Best of School Award in Art.
The Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival’s 1st Place Award was presented to the Tinley Park High School’s
Symphonic Band.
Giavonni Gray received 3rd Place in the Voice of Democracy contest.
Athletic aides Mina Hanalla, Samantha McFalls, Rebecca McGrail, and Mark Faltynek have been accepted into
University Training Programs at their chosen colleges.
Karson Edwards-Fournier won the local Sunburst Beauty Competition in Orland Park.
Ashlei Cole, Veronica Garcia, Richard Gutierrez, Carlos Lopez, Ben McClerklin, Alejandro Munoz, Abraham
Ramirez, Desire Sosa, and Pablo Villar were honored at the Salute to Academic Achievement, sponsored by the
University of Illinois.





Lilydian Tolbert was awarded the Nadine Sterk Scholarship so that she can continue her education in the area
of Television Arts.
Adam Kral made All-Conference for Scholastic Bowl.
Krista Brill was chosen to participate at the IHSA State
Basketball Three-Point Competition.
Naseem Ashkar, Emily Crum, Cricelia Flores, James
Guinn, Michael Kane, Heqi Li, Kieran Nevin-Lynch, Allen
Sorenson, and Pablo Villar had perfect attendance all
four years.
Bridget Fitzgerald was selected to participate in
Walgreens’ Careers in Pharmacy Program.





Jack Neylon has been awarded the Chick Evans Caddie
Scholarship.
District 228 Arts & Technology students competed in the
8th Annual Video Competition at South Suburban College.
Moises Montano, James Beaver, Doug Bulow, Nylle
Graham, Thomas Parchem, and Michelle Rodriguez
received 1st Place awards. Jose Ambrosio, Thomas
Parchem, Ken Potocki, and Michelle Rodriguez received
2nd Place awards. Justin Barksdale, Nylle Graham,
Christian Hammond, Efua Richardson, Timothy Rhodes,
and Michelle Rodriguez received 3rd Place awards.
Cameron Williams was chosen to be a violinist for the
South Suburban Symphony Orchestra.
Diamond Cooks and Qamar Saleh took First Place in the Fashion Apparel Display State Competition for FCCLA
(Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).
Kyle Flanagan was recognized for scoring 1,000 points over his tenure as a varsity basketball player.









Mairead DeWitt was chosen to train as a theatre
critic at the Goodman Theatre after applying
through the Cindy Bandle Young Critics Program.

Micah Furstenau was chosen to demonstrate his
culinary skills at the Oak Forest Farmer’s Market.
Amber Holup placed 7th in Advanced Interviewing
Skills and Marilyn Gasienica placed 7th in Avanced
Office Systems & Procedures from the Business
Professionals of America (BPA) National
Competition.
Ogechi Oparah and Jackie Villarreal were named winners for Best of School at the South Suburban College
Regional High School Art Exhibit.
Eriana James was accepted into the Leadership
Enterprise for a Diverse American Scholars Program
at Princeton University for the summer.
Tysiah Howard received the Transitional Employment
Program’s Student of the Year Award.
Gabi Grutzius won the Grand Prize for the 1st
Congressional Artistic Discovery Contest for her
scratchboard piece entitled, “Luna.”
Alicia Kolacki was chosen to attend the 2015 Hugh
O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) Summer Leadership
Seminar Series.

Kind-hearted and compassionate are two ways to describe District 228 students. They never hesitate to work
individually or in groups to help those in need. Whether it is raising funds for charities, helping the military,
feeding the needy, or recognizing others locally, our students are happy to lend a hand.
