Debra will directly oversee the operations of Oak Wood Place Assisted Living and the new senior living community. Debra joins Oak Wood Place with almost 30 years of health care experience with much of that experience in health care management, training, and senior living. Debra’s nursing experience includes 15 years as a clinical cardiology nurse at Baylor, a background in brain disorders and dementia, and 3 years as a nurse at Oak Wood Place. Debra’s nursing background and business acumen opened doors in the field of medical management where her responsibilities included the opening of various physician offices and training of staff. As a community education nurse, she also traveled the state promoting senior education and proactive health care. Debra is civic minded and believes strongly in volunteering in your community. As a mother, she volunteered in parent organizations, library boards, and chaired many philanthropic events. For a time, she served on the city council and as Mayor Pro Tem of Gun Barrel City. For the past three years, Debra served as the director for an assisted living facility in Tyler, Texas. Debra has one son, Jerad, and a step son, William, who both proudly serve our nation in the United States Air Force. Jerad is part of a readiness logistics squadron, and William is now a civilian working with the Department of Defense in California. This year the Men’s Club participated in the Cowboy Church- Project Christmas Box, and raised $55.00 to make 7 boxes filled with toys for children! Great job Oak Wood Place! Employee of the Month Resident of the Month A note from our Employee of the Month, Carolyn Richardson: Originally from the Dallas area, Matt has called Oak Wood Place home for the past ten years. He grew up in a household of boys. As the oldest of five, Matt and his brothers kept I am originally from a small town of 2,000 plus in Northern Oklahoma named their parents quite busy! Matt, Michael, Adam, Anthony, and Daniel remain close even Newkirk. My parents were Oscar and Ruby Matney, and they were hardworking, God though miles now separate them. Raised in a Roman Catholic home, the boys attended fearing people that raised me right. I was an only child, and my parents taught me Catholic schools from the time they entered elementary school. patience, acceptance, tolerance, and blessed me with their wisdom. Matt worked for United Artists Theaters for many years in the Prestonwood and Plano areas I graduated in 1965 and went to work for the local farmer’s CoOp. I was engaged of North Dallas. Truitt and I were married for over 25 years and lived in the Baxter area never misses an Oak Wood event. He was a winning participant in the Senior Olympics outside of Athens. Truitt passed away in 2003 after battling cancer. where only inches kept him from winning first place in the “hoop it up” contest. He is proud of that hard-earned third place ribbon and intends to bring home first place in 2013! I first became involved in the health care industry through my work in accounting.
