The Community Recreation Guide provides information on the various recreation, leisure and sports programs, day camps and special events available in our community. I encourage you to read the book from cover to cover to learn about all that Wilmot has to offer. Many of these programs and events are offered by volunteer run organizations. Without their hard work, dedication and commitment, many of the programs and opportunities we enjoy would not be offered. To ensure these programs and events continue to be offered, we encourage you to support these organizations by becoming a member, joining a committee, or volunteering at one of their events. I’m sure you will find volunteering to be a very rewarding experience. Sincerely, Les Armstrong Mayor, Wilmot Township LIVE WELL, PLAY WELL AND BE SAFE! Give you child a tour of the facility. • Have fun and swim with your child during a recreational swim prior to beginning lessons and practice skills they already know. • Set realistic expectations with your child and allow your child to feel that there are no expectations to receive a badge. Swimmers often need more than one set of lessons in order to gain the skills that will allow them to complete a level. • Make sure you bring any concerns to the instructor in a timely manner. • If your child has a medical concern or a learning challenge, please speak to the instructor at the first lesson. This will allow us to help your child get the most out of their lesson. Lesson Information • Please return your most recent progress card to your Swimming Instructor. These will be updated and returned on the last lesson. • Participants will be screened on the first lesson to ensure they are enrolled in the appropriate level. If your child is enrolled in the wrong level, we will do our best to get your child into the appropriate level. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that a space in the level you require will be available during your current lesson time. • Each swimming level has items that must be completed correctly a minimum of 3 times on separate lessons in order for that item to be complete. (According to the standards set by the Red Cross.) Attendance is important for your child’s success in the program. Volunteers Needed! Volunteers need to be at least 12 years of age and hold your Swim Kids 10 badge. Volunteers are required to be available for the entire session. Please complete a volunteer application form and submit it to the Customer Service Rep at the Wilmot Recreation Complex. A staff member will contact you to set up your shift. Privates and Semi-Privates You can now Register for Privates on-line recWeb. (Semi-privates must be done in person) A private lesson may be what your child needs to complete a badge or learn a new skill. Please ensure that you speak to you child’s instructor at the start of the lesson to set-out your goals and what you are hoping to accomplish for your child. Minimum age for private lessons is 3 years of age. 20 If you are interested in semi-private lessons, it is your responsibility to find the other participant. When registering for semi-private lessons and both parties do not reside in the same household, registration must be done in person and both parties must be present at the time of registration. To ensure quality instructions both participants must be in similar levels. Semi-private lessons must be registered in person at the Wilmot Recreation Complex. www.wilmot.ca Privates and semi-privates must be pre-paid and are subject to the absentee policy. **If all private spots are full and you are still interested in a lesson, please contact the Wilmot Recreation Centre and we can add you to waiting list. Cost: Private lessons age 3 and up Private Lessons - $19.45 per ½ hour Semi-private Lessons – $14.05 per person per ½ hour Lessons are booked in 4 or 5 lesson blocks – you MUST book all 4 or 5 lessons (if you only want one for an assessment please contact the Wilmot Recreation Complex 519-634-9225) Spring 2015 - Blocks of 5 Lessons Day Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Friday Friday Friday Saturday Saturday Saturday Dates April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 4 - May 2 April 8 - May 6 April 8 - May 6 April 8 - May 6 April 9 - May 7 April 9 - May 7 April 9 - May 7 Time 6:00pm 6:00pm 6:30pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 7:00pm 7:30pm 7:30pm 8:00pm 8:00pm 8:00pm 4:00pm 4:00pm 7:00pm 9:00am 11:30am 11:30am Course Code 5603 5604 5604 5606 5607 5608 5609 5610 5611 5612 5613 5614 5615 5616 5617 5618 5619 Summer - Blocks of 5 Lessons Spring - Blocks of 4 Lessons Day Dates Time Course Code Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Monday Friday Friday Friday Saturday Saturday Saturday May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 9 - June 6 May 13 - June 3 May 13 - June 3 May 13 - June 3 May 14 - June 4 May 14 - June 4 May 14 - June 4 6:00pm 6:00pm 6:30pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 7:00pm 7:30pm 7:30pm 8:00pm 8:00pm 8:00pm 4:00pm 4:00pm 7:00pm 9:00am 11:30am 11:30am 5586 5587 5588 5589 5590 5591 5592 5593 5594 5595 5596 5597 5598 5599 5600 5601 5602 Summer - Blocks of 4 Lessons Day Dates Time Course Code Daily 1 Daily 2 Daily 3 Daily 4 Monday Monday Tuesday Tuesday Wednesday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday July 11 - July 14 July 25 - 28 August 2 - 5 August 22 - 25 August 8 - 29 August 8 - 29 August 9 - 30 August 9 - 30 August 10 - 31 Aug 12 - Sept 2 Aug 12 - Sept 2 Aug 12 - Sept 2 Aug 12 - Sept 2 Aug 12 - Sept 2 Aug 12 - Sept 2 8:15am 8:15am 8:15am 8:15am 3:45pm 7:00pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 4:15pm 4:30pm 5:00pm 5:30pm 6:00pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 5645 5646 5647 5648 5649 5650 5668 5669 5670 5671 5672 5673 5674 5675 5676 Day Daily 1 Daily 2 Daily 3 Daily 4 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Daily 5 Monday Monday Tuesday Tuesday Wednesday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Dates July 4 - 8 July 18 - 22 August 8 - 12 August 15 - 19 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 Aug 29 - Sept 2 July 4 - Aug 1 July 4 - Aug 1 July 5 - Aug 2 July 5 - Aug 2 July 6 - Aug 3 July 8 - Aug 5 July 8 - Aug 5 July 8 - Aug 5 July 8 - Aug 5 July 8 - Aug 5 July 8 - Aug 5 Time Course Code 8:15am 8:15am 8:15am 8:15am 9:00am 10:00am 10:00am 10:00am 10:30am 10:30am 10:30am 10:30am 3:45pm 7:00pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 4:15pm 4:30pm 5:00pm 5:30pm 6:00pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 5620 5621 5622 5623 5624 5625 5626 5627 5628 5629 5630 5631 5632 5633 5636 5637 5638 5639 5640 5641 5642 5643 5644 PROGRAM INFORMATION WILMOT AQUATIC CENTRE www.wilmot.ca Drop-In Lessons These ½ hour classes are ideal for those swimmers 3 to 13 years who are unable to participate in the formal swimming lessons. Wilmot Jujitsu - Professional Self Defense Wilmot Jujitsu abides by the traditional values of Jujitsu, where the passing of knowledge of the art is of primary importance. We believe that the true values of Jujitsu transcend its technical aspects of training; more important are the developments of mental and moral characteristics such as: Patience, Courage, Self Control, Self Confidence and Humility. At Wilmot Jujitsu we practice the following arts: Shinki Ryu Jujitsu, Genbukan Ninpo (tai jutsu), International Motobu Ha Shito Ryu Karate, and Hiden Mugai Ryu Iaido. Shinki Ryu Jujitsu is an effective self defense system and is the foundation of what is taught. It is designed to enhance the confidence of the practitioner while training in a friendly, relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. Advanced Practitioners are allowed to train in both Karate/Kobujutsu and Iaido/Kenjutsu. Genbukan Ninpo is offered to advanced students of Shinki Ryu or to students that are specifically interested in Genbukan Ninpo. Ninpo Bugei focuses on teaching the illumination, awareness and defense of mind, body and spirit. It is the essence of traditional Ninjutsu techniques. This is restricted to adult students ages 14 and up. Wilmot Jujitsu teaches young children (ages 5-9), youth (ages 9-13) and adults (ages 14 and up). Final submissions inside a Kitchener courtroom on Friday concluded the twoday trial of Ian Sommer, a Waterloo Region District School Board teacher accused of inappropriately touching a young female student back in 2013. The teen, whose identity is being protected by a publication ban, initially told her mother that Sommer made her uncomfortable by putting his arm on her during an after-class meeting about a school project at a Wilmot school. Sommer was placed on home duty before returning to school several days later. He apologized to the student in front of school administration and continued to teach the student for the remainder of the school year. Almost 17 months later, the student told staff at a summer camp that the incident also involved inappropriate touching of her breast and stomach area. When police were contacted, she told them it was an isolated incident. Months later, though, she changed her account to include a second occurrence. During cross-examination on Nov. 12, the complainant told the court that Sports Reporte Driving for the title Madeline Woolvett, pictured here, played a big part in Waterloo-Oxford’s 47-22 win over Galt on Nov. 10. The junior girls basketball team will now compete for the Waterloo County championship against KCI on Nov. 17. See Page 15 for the full story.
