At Island View, one of the most

The second largest lake in the metro
area, Lake Waconia is a slice of
paradise in Carver County. In summer,
the lake comes alive. Sailors, wind
surfers, boaters and fishing enthusiasts flock to its clear
waters. You can rent a boat and fishing gear at In Towne
Marina or enjoy the scenery and terrific dining on the
lakeside deck of Lola’s Lakehouse. In winter, the lake
is a snow-covered playground. By
snowmobile or on cross-country
skis, its beauty is breathtaking.

exhibits in its galleries.
Admission is free, and walking tour maps are available.

Historic Sites
Today the remains of Coney Island’s buildings decay
silently, but wildlife abounds on this protected habitat
area, including egrets and
great blue herons.
From the 1880s until the 1950s, “Coney Island of the
West” was a great tourist destination. A hotel, rental
cabins, and summer homes lined the island shores.
Local lore suggests that during prohibition, infamous
gangsters frequented the island, including Al Capone.

At the Waconia Ice Arena, residents and visitors enjoy
open skating, figure skating and hockey. Rental skates
are available. Both venues are open to the public.
Safari Island Community Center is an excursion into
fitness and fun. There’s an indoor play area, zero-depth
leisure pool, giant water slide, eight-lane lap pool, and
sport courts. The fitness center features strength and
cardiovascular equipment and an indoor walking and
jogging track.
