ver 350 guests enjoyed a beautiful fall evening on september
19th at the timbered barn and perennial garden of Villagers Katy and Paul
Rady. Now in its 5th year, the Cherry
Hills Village Barn Party presented by
MidFirst Bank, has become a signature
event in the community benefitting the
Cherry Hills Land Preserve. Co-chaired
by Villagers Mary Laird and Russell
Stewart, also a CHLP board member,
the evening’s festivities featured a silent
art auction showcasing the works of
20 local artists including Kent Lemon,
Duke Beardsley, Andree Hudson, Leon
Loughridge and George Rentz. The
festive evening also included whiskey
tasting poured by Richard Oneslager’s
BottleShop 33 and wine tasting hosted
by local vintners and residents Michelle
and Rick Carter of Sea Shell Cellars.
Boulder bluegrass band The Railsplitters performed live on the lawn,
while guests mingled in and out of the
barn bidding on art, sipping whiskey and
wine and enjoying a spectacular starry
evening with Village neighbors and
friends.

Association
P
ublic Works director and interim City manager Jay goldie
has been selected as the 2015
professional manager of the year for
Administrative management by the
Colorado Chapter of the American
public Works Association (ApWA).
Jay has demonstrated outstanding
achievement in the area of administration within the field of public works.
His recent accomplishments include the
successful accreditation of the City’s
Public Works Department by the APWA
and becoming a Credentialed Manager
through the International City/County
Management Association (ICMA).
Public Works Project and Right-of-Way
Manager Ralph Mason has also been
selected as the 2015 Outstanding Public
Works Employee by the Colorado Chapter of the APWA. Ralph has consistently
performed his operational duties at an
exceptionally efficient and courteous
manner. His recent accomplishments
include implementing a new delivery
technique for trail maintenance and
improving right-of-way coordination efforts between contractors, residents and
other agencies. Congratulations to both
Jay and Ralph!

share in a Haiku poetry exhibition.
‘Haiku’ is the unrhymed Japanese poem written in three phrasing lines consisting of five, seven and five syllables. This distinctive poetry uses language
sparingly and contemplatively to convey the immediacy of a moment, a sense
of nature or spirit. The art of Haiku is found in the power of its simplicity, the
idea that “less is more.” “Haiku in 3-D” will run from September 9th through
November 19th in the lobby level of the Republic Plaza located at 370 17th
Street. The hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday
from 9:00 am to 2:00 p.m.

Village resident, Bette MacDonald,
has hung some of her favorite photographs.
Her show will be up through October. Please
stop by and view her lovely pieces. The
building is normally open Monday-Friday
from 8-4.
Bette MacDonald has lived in the
Village since 1956, where she raised her
four children - Carolyn, Kyle, Katherine
and Bruce. She lived here with her devoted
husband Jim - with whom she shared her love
of art and music, tennis and skiing, and the
many friends in this special community.
Bette’s keen sense of style and
appreciation of art resulted in the acquisition
of an impressive contemporary art
collection. She developed her own creative
expression through the study and practice
of photography. Her camera accompanied
her everywhere - from European travels
to adventures in the West, especially in
Aspen where she loved to captured special
moments of time past.
Born in Chicago, Bette lived many years
in New York before moving to Denver.
She attended Pine Manor Junior College
and Connecticut College for Women. She
studied photography at the Anderson Ranch
in Snowmass Village.
Jim and Bette were charter members of the
Arapahoe Tennis Club. She has served on
the board of the Museum of Contemporary
Art Denver, and has been a longtime patron
and attendee of the Colorado Symphony
Orchestra and the Aspen Music Festival.
THe frAnCis-peTry HoUse has been added to
the national register of Historic places
D
enver architect, edwin francis, designed the Tudor Revival style
house in 1952; in which he and his family lived until 1968. The home
features massive chimneys, elaborate chimney pots, intricate brickwork and windows that feature diamond-panes or multi-colored roundels. The
National Register of Historic Places is an official list of the nation’s historic
places that are worthy of preservation. This register is part of a national
program that coordinates and supports public and private efforts to identify,
evaluate and protect America’s historic and archeological resources. There
are more than 80,000 properties listed on the National Register representing
approximately $1.4 million individual resources, including buildings, sites,
districts, structures and objects.

would like to remind Cherry Hills Village residents of the campaign and political sign policy prior to the november election.
Criteria for posting campaign and political signs are outlined in the City’s Municipal Code (section 16-15-30) and the following are
just a few of the criteria to be aware of if you would like to post a sign on your property:
 Campaign and political signs must be placed on private property with the consent of the property owner or occupant and may NOT
be placed in any public right-of-way.
 Campaign and political signs may not be placed in a manner that obstructs visibility at an intersection.
 An individual sign face may not exceed six (6) square feet in area and the total area of all signs on a single property is limited to
twelve (12) square feet.
 Campaign and political signs may not be illuminated.
 Campaign and political signs may be posted for up to 90 days, at which time the
sign must be removed or replaced with a new sign.
 Campaign and political signs may not advertise or promote a commercial enterprise
not located on the same lot.
 Signs cannot be posted on public property; within public rights-of-way; on public
street medians, islands or parkways; attached to traffic control devices or traffic control signs and fixtures; or attached to utility equipment, poles and wires.

met with Congresswoman diana
degette at the Joint Public Safety
Facility. The agenda included discussions
centered on the Centennial Airport Noise
Roundtable and the House Quiet Skies
Caucus, the 21st Century Cure Bill,
reauthorizing the Highway Trust Fund and
creating a unique zip code for the City of
Cherry Hills Village.

he november 3rd Coordinated
election is all about local races and
issues that impact you. Your vote has the
power to make a difference in this and
every election. The ballot will include a
statewide tax issue, as well as measures and
races for the Cherry Creek and Englewood
School Districts and the Arapahoe Library
District. There are no county or citywide
ballot questions this year.
Watch your mailbox: Ballots will
be mailed by October 12th to all
active registered voters in Colorado.
Ensure that you are registered to
vote and your address is current at

he City of Cherry Hills Village
will not have any issues appearing
on the November 3, 2015 coordinated
election ballot. The City Council
approved Resolution 38, 2015 at its
regular meeting on September 15,
2015 affirming the cancellation the
Cherry Hills Village Special Municipal
Election that was scheduled to be held in
coordination with Arapahoe County on
November 3, 2015.
The Village Center will still serve
as a ballot drop off location for the
November 3, 2015 election. Visit www.

registration status, find other ballot drop
off locations and Voter Service Center
locations.
The next regular election for the City
of Cherry Hills Village will be held in
November of 2016. At that time the
ballot will include candidate elections
for the positions of Mayor and Council
