WHAT HAPPENED
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2013! Dear Parents, This past summer has been just incredible, not just for me personally, but also fo rour teens and leaders. Our incredible summer/month of July consisted of -- among others -- our annual FNL camp, Beyond the Horizon, to a series of challenging and well-delivered messages by our teen preachers. But personally, as a youth pastor, it was also incredible to see God moving among the teens and leaders. Before we get into the details of last month’s incredible events, I’d like to draw your attention to one announcement. We at FNL have decided to start releasing Trans(parent) once in two months instead of the usual once a month. With that said, we have tons of stuff happening in the months to come so keep reading the newsletters and always feel free to contact me if you have any questions about FNL. Warm Regards, Ps. Ardo. WHAT HAPPENED Noel Hiennadi preaching at FNL West GUEST SPEAKERS Last month, FNL had the privilege to lend our stage to guest preachers from three different countries. But what’s cooler was the fact that all of these guest preachers were our very own current or graduated FNLers! Kelly Hartensveld (one of Pastor Jeff Hartensveld’s daughters) came back from America to Indonesia for the summer and took the stage first, followed by Kevin Tjianbas -more popularly known as Fish -- who is currently a student at Hillsong College in Australia. The rest of the month was filled by two recent FNL graduates, Sammie Karlie and Jessica Wijaya, and a current FNLer, Noel Hiennadi, who all delivered their respective messages splendidly and did us all proud! FNL BALIKPAPAN MISSION CAMP FNL Mission Camp was incredible! I went with ten other people, including FNL leaders and teens, to bless and minister to the teens of East Kalimantan at a youth camp. The camp was held in Balikpapan from August fifth to seventh by a network of GSJA churches from various East Kalimantan cities and ICA. We organized games and activities for 120 teens, helped spread the word of God, performed skits, played music and prayed for the teens at the revival service, experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, and hung out with the camp-goers as well as great people from the local committee who organized the camp. We hope that the teens of East Kalimantan were just as blessed as us who went over there! FNL EAST: GAME NIGHT We had our very first Game Night at FNL East on the first Friday of August! It was a night filled with fun and good times. The teens enjoyed awesome fellowship with their friends through tons of games -- and by tons, we literally mean TONS! It was a great event where the teens could bond and get to know each other throughout the entire FNL service. FNL WEST: LOUIE GIGLIO While FNL East was having Game Night, FNL West was having their own special event. Teens at FNL West were invited to watch a DVD of a sermon by Louie Giglio. He talked about the power of worship and how, if we listened very closely, we could hear proofs that the whole of creation is worshipping God 24/7! Louie Giglio is the pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the founder of the Passion Movement. For more information about Louie Giglio and his ministry, you can visit their website at www.passioncitychurch.com. FNL AMAZING RACE On August 16th, both FNL West and East came together at Galaxy Mall to embarked on an amazing race to find their leaders disguised throughout the mall. The teens had a lot of fun trying to figure out the riddles and clues that would help them find the leaders. It was a night dedicated to awesome fellowship, teamwork and simply lots of fun. WHAT’S HAPPENING REAL ISSUES A new series is coming up! This time, we are going to tap into real issues! A lot of teens face struggles and dilemmas in their daily lives, but a lot of times they don’t realize that the answer to those issues lie in God. Therefore, in this upcoming series they will learn about what the Bible has to say about 4 different (real) issues: Bullying, Gossiping, Peer Pressure, and Jealousy. We hope that the teens will come to see for themselves that they really can overcome their issues through Christ. WHAT’S COMING UP FNL LOCK-IN Due to popular demand, FNL Lock-In is back again on September 20th! This is basically a time for our FNLers (fully supervised by the adult leaders of course!) to play games and hang out all night long, with a couple of worship sessions at midnight and in the morning. Permission slips will be required, so please make sure you’ve signed you teen’s so he or she can join this epic event and be sure to pick them up the next morning if necessary. We can’t wait! ‘SAVE OUR GENERATION’ PART 2 Save Our Generation is back. This time, we’ll explore what we -as teachers, parents, and coaches -- need to mentor our teens. We’ll talk about the different do’s and don’ts of mentoring and what is the most effective way of empowering our young generation and prepare themselves to be responsible, compassionate, and functioning individuals to their church and community. Please mark Saturday, September 14th on your calendar and invite your friends to come to ICA West’s MPR from 3-5 PM! LIFE OF DAVID Would you ever take your shortest, plainest, and least significant office boy in your company and make him CEO overnight? God did something similar in the life of King David! This is the topic that FNL will explore all month long in October: the rise and fall of one of the greatest heroes in the Bible! I believe that our teens will definitely benefit from studying King David’s life and find it applicable to their own personal lives. Make sure your teen doesn’t miss this series in October!
