CurlManitoba
These general rules apply to all Sport Region Qualifiers, Berth Bonspiels, Bonspiels with Berths
and Provincial Championships.
All CurlManitoba member clubs MUST be a member in good standing with CurlManitoba NO
LATER than December 15, 2014. This entails each club having submitted the required
membership demographics by December 15, 2014. Should a club not be a member or not have
submitted their list by December 15th, their members will be ineligible to compete in
CurlManitoba qualifying and provincial events for the 2014-2015 season.
All category rules supersede the general rules of play.
The CurlManitoba Rules of Curling for Officiated Play govern the Provincial Championships, the
U18 Championship and the Youth Spring Bonspiel.
The General Rules of Curling as published by the Canadian Curling Association shall govern all
matters not dealt within these rules.
Curling Clubs may have their own rules, for their own leagues and competitions, which will
supersede all CurlManitoba rules.
Provincial Championship rules supersede the General Rules of Play.
TERMS
The Manitoba Curling Association Inc. shall be referred to as CurlManitoba
The Canadian Curling Association shall be referred to as the CCA
JURISDICTION
CurlManitoba shall govern all competitions.
In all matters the decision of CurlManitoba shall be final.
A CurlManitoba Representative is appointed by CurlManitoba to be in charge at Berth Bonspiels,
Bonspiels with a Berth and Sport Region qualifiers. This individual is designated prior to the
event.
At all officiated events, the final decision in all on-ice matters will be made by the CurlManitoba
designated Umpire.
APPLICATION
All competitions leading up to and including the Provincial Championship shall be played under
CurlManitoba Rules and the General Rules of Curling as published by the CCA. In case of
conflict, any special rules shall take precedence.
ALCOHOL
The consumption of alcohol by athletes, coaches and umpires is not permitted at Junior Events
and Youth Events as outlined in the CurlManitoba Code of Conduct.

CurlManitoba General Rules of Play
CurlManitoba reserves the right to alter any CurlManitoba draw
1.
At the scheduled starting time for games, the CurlManitoba Representative shall
ring a bell to signify the start of the game. If a team is unable to commence
play at the designated time, it shall be assessed the following penalty:
 If the delay of the start of play is 1-15 minutes, then the non-offending
team receives one point after one minute and will have last stone in the
first end of actual play. One end is considered complete.
 If the delay of the start of play is 16-30 minutes, then the non-offending
team receives one additional point after 16 minutes and will have last
stone in the first end of actual play. Two ends will be considered
completed.
 If play has not started after 30 minutes, then the non-offending team is
declared the winner by forfeit after 31 minutes with a score of 2-0.
 At that time the non-offending team may access the ice for practice.
2.
All Games will be ten ends, except:
 Manitoba Open, 8 end games
 Senior Men, Senior Women, Master Men and Master Women events, 8
end games
 Recreation Division of the Youth Winter Bonspiel, 8 end games
 Recreation Divisions of the Youth Spring Bonspiel, 8 end games

A bell will be rung at 2 hours and 15 minutes for 10 ends and 1 hour and 45
minutes for 8 ends unless specified at the event. The bell indicates that the end
in progress shall be completed and one more shall be played.
NOTE: An end is considered complete and the next end is in progress when the
final stone of the end has reached the throwing end tee line.
4.
Unless specified, a game may be conceded at any time
 No points will be counted for an incomplete end when both teams still
have stones to be delivered.
 No Points are awarded when one team has delivered all their stones and
has stones counting.
 If one team has delivered all their stones and the other team has a stone
remaining and is counting, points will be awarded accordingly.
5.
A team may start any game with three players except in mixed competitions.
 A player who has left a game because of illness, accident or other
extenuating circumstances may rejoin their team at any time during any
game in the competition.
 A player may enter a game between ends or during an end already in
progress providing they are able to deliver a stone (of the player who is
leaving) within the team’s established delivery rotation.
 The alternate player replaces the sidelined player for that end. At the
beginning of the next end the alternate player may deliver stones in any
position of the delivery rotation of their team. The team must re-declare
their delivery rotation at that time including the skip and vice-skip.

No change in position played shall be made once the game has commenced.
Teams must play with the stones provided and the color chosen on the sheet
assigned. Under no circumstances can stones be moved from one sheet to
another.
7.
In the event of any disagreement between skips, the Event Representative shall
be consulted.
8.
An On Call Umpire will be available via telephone to handle any disputes. The
Event Representative shall call the On Call Umpire if they cannot make a
decision.
9.
In the event of a tie, the game is to proceed until a point is scored to decide the
winner.
10.
Should any emergency arise during the time of the bonspiel, CurlManitoba or the
Bonspiel Committee may change the CurlManitoba General Bonspiel Rules.
11.
To be eligible for a berth in any CurlManitoba event a team must have won a
minimum of 1 game during the event.
12.
No payouts shall be awarded at the Sport Region Qualifiers and Berth Bonspiels.
13.
All teams advancing to a Provincial Championship must have at least three (3)
players that participated at the qualifying event in which the team earned their
berth to a Championship. Each of those three (3) players MUST be present and
play in the Championship.
14.
It is at the discretion of each club to decide whom they will accept as associate
or regular members of their club. Such decisions must be made by December
15th to allow those individuals to be eligible to play in Provincial Championships.
15.
No ice preparation shall occur during the course of a game at any CurlManitoba
event.

Please refer to the policies for information on residency
policy, appeals policy, code of conduct policy and disciplinary
policy.
The signature of approval for certifying eligibility on all
entries is the only person allowed to alter an entry, therefore
maintaining the team’s eligibility affirmation.

Residency Requirements to Compete in a Provincial Championship
All provincial curling championships involve the participation of teams that are made up of
individuals who are a permanent resident within Manitoba prior to September 1st, 2014 for the
2014-2015 season and who are eligible to advance to the Canadian Championship. This time
frame may be shortened in the following circumstances:
 Transfer due to employment
 School attendance
 Military service and transfer
Exemptions may be made in exceptional circumstances if granted by two Member Associations
where:
 Individuals live within a short distance of the provincial/territorial boundary
 Part time students
 An individual is based in two provinces/territories due to an employment
situation (the individual must provide positive proof that their predominant
employment from Sept 1st to March 31st , of any curling season will be located
within the geographical area of the Member Association they wish to participate
in)
To ensure that all individuals are treated equally a policy has been agreed to that clearly
outlines what an individual must be able to provide to be considered a resident for qualifying
purposes.
It is understood that an individual can only participate in one province/territory in any
championship season. (Explanation – an individual may only participate in the qualifying
process in one Member Association in one championship year – this includes all championships
that lead to a national event. These include Masters, The Travelers Club Championship, etc. It
is understood that the Canadian Mixed, held in November, will be part of the previous year’s
group of competitions even though it is dated in the following year. For example – the 2014
Canadian Mixed held in November of 2014 will be considered a part of the 2013/14
Championship season for residency purposes.)
To that end it has been agreed that an individual must provide a minimum of three of the
following four items to the Member Association (if requested) whose playdown structure they
wish to enter:

Current Driver’s License or valid picture ID from Manitoba
**
Current Health Care Card from Manitoba
**
Letter from employer confirming employment within Manitoba
**
Statement from-landlord by landlord (if renting) or bank (if owned) confirming residency
within Manitoba – a copy of a property tax invoice for non-mortgaged property is also
adequate. Recommend a Statutory Declaration be obtained.
Traditional on-campus full time students will be allowed to establish residency by providing a
confirmation letter from their school’s Registrar’s Office confirming full time status and class
enrollment for the academic year. This policy defers to the institution which the student
attends in terms of defining full-time student status.
A protest must be filed no later than 7 days prior to an event.

Curling Association. For any further information please refer to the CCA

CurlManitoba Special Events
YOUTH WINTER BONSPIEL
The divisions and eligibility of the bonspiel will be:
1) Maximum of 16 (sixteen) teams 16 & Under years of age as of December 31, 2014
2) Maximum of 16 (sixteen) teams 13 & Under years of age as of December 31, 2014
Rules
1. All team members must reside in Manitoba.
2. All participants in the 16 & Under years of age must be 16 years of age or under as of
December 31, 2014. Born in 1998 or later.
3. All participants in the 13 & Under years of age must be 13 years of age or under as of
December 31, 2014. Born in 2001 or later.
4. Team composition will be open and a team may consist of 4 males, 4 females or any
combination of males and females.
5. All games will be 8 ends with a 1 hour and 45 minute bell.
6. The Cresting Policy is NOT in effect.
Spares
1. Spares are allowed. Spares must register with the event representative prior to playing.
Spare must meet the age requirements.
2. Following the registration of their four players, should a player be unable to play due to
extenuating circumstances (injury, illness) the team will be permitted to use up to two
eligible spares or have the option of continuing with the remaining three players. A
spare is a temporary player who may play the position of the missing player or lower.
Time Outs
1. Time outs will consist of one 1 minute time out that can be called any time during the
first 4 ends, a 3 minute 4th end break and two 1 minute time out that can be called in
the last 4 ends in all games.
Long Term Athletes Development
Please refer to Long Term Athlete Development section on page 9 as it will be in effect for the
Youth Winter Bonspiel.

YOUTH SPRING BONSPIEL
1) Open Recreation 16 years of age and under as of December 31, 2014
2) Open Recreation 13 years of age and under as of December 31, 2014
3) Men’s Competitive 16 years of age and under as of December 31, 2014
4) Women’s Competitive 16 years of age and under as of December 31, 2014
Rules
1. All team members must reside in Manitoba.
2. To compete in the Open Recreation 13 years of age and under Division all team
members must be 13 years of age or under as of December 31, 2014.
Born in 2001 or later. No older than 13 on December 31, 2014.
3. To compete in the 16 and Under Men’s or Women’s Competitive Division and the Open
Recreation 16 years of age and under Division all team members must be 16 years of
age or under as of December 31, 2014.
4. Team composition in the Recreation Divisions is open and may be 4 males, 4 females or
any combination thereof.
5. Team composition in the Competitive Divisions is gender specific to 4 males and 4
females.
6. All recreation games will be 8 ends, all competitive games will be 10 ends.
7. A minimum of 6 ends is required.
8. The bell will ring at 2 hours and 15 minutes for all divisions.
9. The Cresting Policy is NOT in effect.
Spares
1. Spares are allowed in the Recreation Divisions. Spares must register with the event
representative prior to the start of any game. Spare must meet the age requirements
and may not have competed in the Competitive Division.
2. In the Recreation Division following the registration of their four players, should a player

1. The Recreation Divisions time outs will consist of one 1 minute time out that can be
called any time during the first 4 ends, a 3 minute 4th end break and two 1 minute time
out that can be called in the last 4 ends in all games.
2. The Competitive Division will have 2 one minute time outs and a 5th end break.

Long Term Athletes Development
The emphasis of the Youth Winter Bonspiel and the Youth Spring Bonspiel will be based on the
Long Term Athlete Development Model and consist of a guarantee of 4 games with the
emphasis on Fair Play and Development of athletes and coaches.
Development:
A coach and/or umpire will be present at all games to assist coaches and teams with
etiquette, rules and behavior.
Fair Play:
The objective is to promote social interaction and Fair Play within a curling event while
encouraging all athletes to play to the best of their ability and to make an effort to
experience success during the game.
Everyone should adhere to an honesty policy with regard to rule interpretation and
proper conduct.
At the conclusion of each game, the team will rank the opposing team on a scale of 1 to
5.
Any team that does not hand in their ballots at the conclusion of a game will be
eliminated from the right to be included in the fair play ranking and prizes.
If a team wishes to comment on the ranking they provided to the other team please
write it on the ballot at the bottom or on the back.
Ranking System:
1 Point
Team was unfriendly and uncooperative, constantly talking while the
opposition is throwing, standing in the way, game not enjoyable to
play
2 Points
Some discipline shown by some players but not enough to improve the
game, one or two players friendly, game not enjoyable to play, not
sure if you want to play this team again
3 Points
The team for the most part followed the rules, the game was OK, your
team enjoyed the competition, team needs to make a few small
adjustments to their play
4 Points
Enjoyed the game, opposition was friendly and obeyed the rules.
Showed respect for their competition, the other teams, coaches and
officials. The competition was good.
5 Points
Really enjoyed the game. This team represents the spirit of Fair Play!
They showed respect, demonstrated integrity, was more concerned
about doing their best than winning the game. Acknowledged good
performances by both teams, showed support for their teammates
when something didn’t go their way.

U18 Championship
1. Junior Women 17 (seventeen) years of age & under as of December 31st, 2014.
2. Junior Men 17 (seventeen) years of age & under as of December 31st, 2014.
3. Mixed Doubles (1 female and 1 male) 17 years of age & under as of December 31st,
2014.
Born 1997 or later.
Athletes may participate in both the gender specific division and the Mixed Doubles division.
Qualifying
1. Qualifying events will be held in each sport region for all 3 divisions on the same
weekend.
Rules
1. All CurlManitoba rules for officiated play will be in effect.
2. All other rules of the Canadian Curling Association will be in effect.
3. All competitors must meet the age requirements.
4. Competitors can only compete for one provincial sport region. Teams must compete for
the region in which they reside. A one player exemption is allowed and a release must
be completed for an athlete representing a region other than their region of residence.
The release must be submitted and approved by CurlManitoba prior to the event
deadline.
5. All games shall be eight ends unless a team concedes earlier.
6. Games tied after eight ends of play shall continue in extra ends until a winner is
declared.
7. A 1 hour and 55 minute bell will be used after the start of each game. Teams will finish
the end they are playing and play one more. An end is considered complete (and the
next end is considered in progress) when the final stone of the end has reached the
delivery end tee line.

information.
Time Outs
1. Each team will be allowed two one-minute time outs during the game and a two-minute
coaching break will be allowed at the conclusion of the fourth end.

Coaches
1. A coach is mandatory.
2. The coach must be a minimum of 21 years of age as of January 1, 2015. The coach
must have a minimum of Level 2 Certification OR Competition Coach in Training no later
than 30 days prior to the start of the Championship.
3. Respect in Sport Certification and Making Ethical Decisions On line Evaluation must be
completed no later than 30 days prior to the start of the Championship.
Format
Two pools of four teams will be determined by the seeding process.
Page Playoff
1) Two teams from each pool will advance to the playoff round. The playoff round shall be
a page playoff.
2) The teams ranked first in each pool will compete with the winner advancing to the final
and the loser competing in the semi-final.
3) The teams in second place in the Round Robin will compete with the winner advancing
to the semi-final.
4) Once a team makes their color selection and declares it to the Umpire the choice cannot
be altered.
Note:
If three teams are tied, two playoff games are required of which one team will receive a bye
into the final playoff game. A win/loss record of the tied teams will determine the bye. If
teams are still tied, the skill based ranking system will be used.

MANITOBA OPEN
Rules
1. Items contained in the CurlManitoba Manitoba Open Rules will take precedence over the
CurlManitoba General Rules.
2. Teams competing for Provincial Berths must also comply with all eligibility rules required
to compete in the Safeway Championship. Members of teams not complying with the
eligibility rules shall be ineligible for berths or qualifiers for Provincial Berths. An
ineligible member of a team makes the whole team ineligible.
3. No team member additions or substitutions will be permitted after the commencement
of the bonspiel. (Club certified replacements will be accepted by the CurlManitoba Office
until the Official bonspiel start time.)
4. Spares will be allowed in the bonspiel, as long as they are not a registered member of a
team in either the Open Bonspiel OR the HALFspiel. However, when teams reach the
16’s of the three ‘berth-qualifying’ events (Asham, Free Press, Safeway-Lucerne) –
spares are NO longer allowed. Teams must play from that point forward in the bonspiel
with registered team players and will be expected to sign a competitors game card to
verify eligibility.
5.
All games will be 8 ends. A bell will be rung at 1 hours and 45 minutes indicating that
the end in progress shall be completed and one more shall be played. An end is
considered complete (and the next end is considered in progress) when the final stone
of the end has reached the delivery-end tee line. Unless specified, a game may be
conceded at any time. In the event of a tie, the game is to proceed until a point is
scored to decide the winner.
6. In all games where six ends or more have been played and play cannot be continued
due to ice conditions and/or problems within the building, such as power failure,
condensation falling etc, and subject to approval of the umpire and the Bonspiel
Chairperson, the game shall be considered a completed game. All games called prior to
the completion of the sixth end shall be declared no contest and replayed. This rule shall
not apply to games where two penalty points have been awarded and a game declared
complete due to a team being late.
7. Should any emergency arise during the time of the bonspiel, CurlManitoba may change
the CurlManitoba General Bonspiel Rules.
8. Curling teams and/or individual curlers may be disqualified for non-compliance with
these bonspiel rules at the discretion of CurlManitoba &/or the Bonspiel Committee.
9. Four (4) teams will win berths to the Safeway Championship through the Manitoba
Open.

MANITOBA HALFspiel
Rules

COACHING
REQUIREMENTS
1. 21 Years of Age (a minimum of 21 years of age at the time of the competition)
2. NCCP Level 1 Certification with Level 2 Technical Training OR Competition Coach in
Training for any events leading up to and including Provincial Championship
Exception: Junior Championships
3. NCCP Certified Level 2 OR Certified Competition Coach for all Junior Provincial
Championship
4. Making Ethical Decisions On-Line Evaluation
5. Respect in Sport Certification
6. Criminal Record check is required for U18 and Junior Provincial Championship
7. Child Abuse Registry Screening is required for U18 and Junior Provincial
Championships
8. All coaches must have completed their certification requirements a minimum of 30
days prior to any competition leading up to and including all Championships.
9. Exception: Youth Winter Bonspiel and Youth Spring Bonspiel Recreation Divisions
i. Respect in Sport Certification is mandatory
ii. Making Ethical Decisions on line Evaluation mandatory
iii. Prior to the start of competition teams may register a Coach/Adult Supervisor.
Certification is not required. However, completion of Club coach OR
Competition Coach in Training is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
RULES
1. A coach may coach either one junior men’s or one junior women’s team and one
U18 men’s or one U18 women’s team during events leading up to and including
the Provincial Championships in a given season.
2. An assistant coach may be registered for all junior and U18 events leading up to
and including the Provincial Championship.
The assistant coach must meet all of the coaching requirements.
The assistant coach will be allowed access to the team ONLY when the
coach is absent for an entire game.
The coach and assistant coach are NOT interchangeable during any one
game.
3. Each team participating in the U18 and Junior Provincial Championship MUST
register a coach that meets the requirements for the Provincial Championship.

4. At all U18 and Junior Provincial Championships coaches must be in the facility
when their team is playing except for unforeseen circumstances.
5. A team without a coach present for unforeseen circumstances will be allowed
their time outs but the opposing coach will NOT be allowed access to the ice.
TIME OUTS
1. Two 1 miinute coaching breaks are permitted in all games leading to a berth in a
Provincial Championship. (NOTE: This rule WILL NOT apply in the Manitoba Open)
2. One 1-minute time out per team is allowed in an extra end. Time outs not used
during regulation play may not be carried over to extra ends.
3. Youth Winter Bonspiel and Youth Spring Bonspiel – Open Division time outs will
consist of:
one 1 minute time out for the first 4 ends
one 3 minute 4th end break
two 1 minute time outs for the last 4 ends in all games
one 1 minute time out for an extra end
4. Youth Spring Bonspiel- Competitive Division time outs will consist of:
two 1 minute time outs
one 5 minute 5th end break
5. The 1-minute time out will commence when the team calling the time out begins any
discussion with the coach. The time out is complete at the end of 1 minute OR once
the Coach/Team calling the time out has finished communication. The coach/team
that did not call the time out shall exit the playing surface.
6. The Coach/Team not calling the time out may not speak to their team until the
timeout begins.
7. There will be a five-minute 5th end break in all junior competitions awarding a berth
into the Junior Provincial Championship.
8. There will be a five-minute 4th end break in all U18 regional qualifiers.
9. Coaches must notify the Event Representative, the Umpire and the timer to call a
time out and should endeavor to notify their opposing coach.
10. At unofficiated events a coach will be given a maximum of 20 (twenty) seconds to
access their team.
11. All time-outs including the 5th end break will take place in the ice area.
12. Competitors are NOT to leave the ice area for necessities only.
13. Either a player or a coach may call a Time Out. Consultation is not permitted.

14. The coach/team that called the time out may access the playing surface with their
coach; the coach must stay within two feet of the sideboards or backboards. The
coach may position themselves behind the back line within 2 feet of the sideboards
or between the hog lines within 2 feet of the sideboards. The team that did not call
the time out may communicate with their coach at the home end and shall not
access the playing surface.
15. A coach may not enter the house or the playing surface at any time.
16. Only the coach may meet with their players during a timeout. Fifths may access the
ice only at the 4th/5th end break.
17. The coach and any team member cannot be the same person.
18. At all Provincial Championships each coach will be entitled to one 1 minute fair play
time out to provide an opportunity to diffuse a negative situation regarding one of
their player's on-ice behavior
This time out will be called and governed by the Umpire on duty.
NOTE:
Coaching at the junior level is mandatory BUT when a coach is unable to be present

outs but the opposing coach will not be allowed access to the ice or their team.

FIFTH PLAYER AND/OR SIXTH PLAYERS
FIFTH PLAYERS
For all CurlManitoba events leading up to and including Provincial Championships:
1. A fifth player may be registered prior to the event.
Exception: The Travelers Curling Club Championship
2. NO SPARES ARE ALLOWED.
Exception: Spares are allowed from the spare pool at Provincial
Championships only.
Spares are allowed in all Recreation Divisions of the Youth Winter
and Youth Spring Bonspiels
Spares are allowed up until the 16s of the Manitoba Open
Spares are allowed at the Manitoba HALFspiel
3. The players on the ice must be four of the five players listed on the team
entry/registration form. The registered Fifth player may play any position in any
game.
4. In addition, teams qualifying for the six 16-team Manitoba Provincial Championships,
the 32-team Safeway Championship, or the Senior Women’s Open Championship and
the Master Women’s Open Championship may identify a fifth player as a team
member with competition privileges as outlined in the CCA Rules of Officiated Play.
Fifth players may access the ice during the fifth end break. Fifth players must be
identified prior to the start of an event leading up to a Championship and 7 days
prior to a Provincial Championship.
5. Fifth players must maintain the eligibility of the team.
6. Fifth players will not receive berth winner crests, keeper awards, or a complimentary
banquet ticket.
7. Following the registration of their four players plus a fifth player for the Sport Region
Qualifiers, or following the registration of four players plus a Fifth Player for Berth
Bonspiels and Bonspiels with a Berth, and at any level, should a player be unable to
play due to extenuating circumstances (injury, illness, employment, coaching at
another sanctioned event, etc.) the team will continue with the remaining three/four
players. The exception to three person teams will be in mixed competitions where
four players are required.
8. In all championships during a pre-event practice, a fifth player may participate in the
team’s designated pre-event practice.
9. In all events during a pre-game practice, a fifth player may participate in the pregame practice.

SPARE PLAYER
1. A spare is a player named in the Spare Pool at all Provincial Championships. This is a
temporary player who may play the position of the indisposed player or lower. The
spare list is approved by CurlManitoba prior to the Provincial Championships.
2. The spare pool members must be an eligible player from the Sport Region in which
the Provincial Championship is being hosted.
REPLACEMENT PLAYERS
1. Upon moving to another level, a team may be permitted to replace a player, should a
player be unable to play due to extenuating circumstances (injury, illness,
employment, coaching at another sanctioned event, etc.). A replacement player
becomes a permanent registered member of the team and may play any position.
The replacement player must meet all eligibility rules of the competition and must
have done so prior to the commencement of the competition in which the team
qualified. The replacement is required to purchase a CCA Competitor’s Card.
CurlManitoba office must be advised in writing of any replacement. A team with a
replacement player must be comprised of at least 3 of the 4 (or 5) original players
who competed when the team qualified for the Championship.
MIXED
1. In mixed competitions all players must play alternate positions.
2. Mixed Teams may name a Fifth & Sixth Player – one of each gender, for the Berth
Bonspiels and the Provincial Championship. All Fifth & Sixth Players must purchase a
CCA Competitor Card prior to the beginning of the Provincial Championship.
3. If a player in any Berth Bonspiel or Provincial Championship is unable to continue to
play due to illness or other extenuating circumstance, after the game commences,
the team may continue to play any end already commenced with three players. Any
stone yet to be thrown by the absent player in that end will be thrown by the
remaining player of the same gender. Upon completion of the end the fifth/sixth or a
spare of the same gender from the spare pool MUST be used. Mixed Curling must
always have four players on the ice with two men and two women alternating
delivery of stones except as described above.
4. In all cases, a replacement shall be of the same gender as the absent player.
5. The skip and vice-skip must be of opposite genders.

ELIGIBILITY (all Championships)
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
1. Players who have already secured a provincial berth are ineligible for the Sport
Region Qualifiers and Berth Bonspiels but may compete in Bonspiels with a Berth.
2. Each competitor must meet all eligibility conditions as established by CurlManitoba.
3. Each competitor shall adhere to the CurlManitoba residency policy.
The policy can be found at www.curlmanitoba.org/policies and on page 6 of the
rulebook.
4. All players must be members in good standing of a member Manitoba Club, which is
in good standing with CurlManitoba to compete in the Sport Region Qualifiers, Berth
Bonspiels and Provincial Championships. Players who are not members of a member
club may participate in Bonspiels with a Berth if they meet all other eligibility
requirements but are ineligible to earn a berth.
5. The verification of the age of all members of the team is the responsibility of the
team authorized signatory.
6. All four (4) or five (5) competitors registered on a team must be members of the
same CurlManitoba member Winnipeg club or members of any CurlManitoba rural
member club within the same Sport Region.
Exceptions to #4:
Junior: A team is comprised of four (4) or five (5) players who wish to register
through a school must all be registered students at the same school by October
1, 2014.
U18: A team is comprised of four (4) or five (5) players who reside in the same
sport region and are a member of a CurlManitoba member club. One player per
team may apply for an exemption of residency.
Senior Women & Master Women: All four (4) or five (5) competitors on a
team shall not necessarily come from one club, but may be chosen from any club
within their Sport Region. All City of Winnipeg affiliated clubs constitute one
Sport Region for entry purposes.
Mixed: A minimum of two players of the team shall be members in good
standing of the same member curling club in Manitoba and the team must enter
through and represent the club of those two players. All other players must be
members of an affiliated curling club in Manitoba. All four (4), five (5) or six (6)
players of the team must be accepted by the curling club they are entering out
of as a team representing that club prior to the start of play at any level. The
skip and vice skip shall be of opposite gender and one of these two individuals
shall deliver the final two stones of the end for their team.

Spring Berth Bonspiels for 2016: All members of a team must be members
of a CurlManitoba member club. For the season in which the berth is designated
the team must meet the eligibility rules above for the specific category.
7. Athlete verification shall be as shown on the list of members of the club for the
current season filed with CURLMANITOBA.
8. If a team is declared ineligible after securing a provincial berth, then the team cannot
compete in the Provincial Championship by dropping the ineligible member(s). They
are simply not eligible and the entire team will be replaced.
9. All provincial participants must sign and submit a CurlManitoba Participation
Agreement and a CurlManitoba Cresting Agreement seven (7) days prior to the
Provincial Championship.
a. Seven Days is PRIOR TO NOON from the start of the Pre-Event Practice.
(I.e. if the pre-event practice is Tuesday the agreements are due the week
prior on the Tuesday by NOON)
b. If a team does not submit the two agreements seven (7) days prior to the
Championship, CurlManitoba will name an alternate team.
10. In the event of a Berth Winner Team not being able to compete at a Provincial
Championship, CurlManitoba will name an alternate team.

To compete in the open Recreation 16 years of age and Under Division all teams members must

1. To compete in the Open Recreation 13 years of age and under Division all team
members must be 13 years of age or under as of December 31, 2014.
2. To compete in the 16 and Under Men’s or Women’s Competitive Division and the Open
Recreation 16 years of age and under Division all team members must be 16 years of
age or under as of December 31, 2014.

CCA COMPETITOR FEES
1. All team members (4) must submit the current season’s competitor fee to
CurlManitoba.
2. All team members (4) must have paid a competitor fee prior to the start of a
competition to maintain eligibility.
3. A Team winning a Provincial Berth through a Bonspiel with a Berth must pay the CCA
Competitor Fee immediately after accepting the berth.
4. Fifth players must pay a CCA Competitor Fee immediately after the team is awarded
a Provincial Berth.
5. Athletes competing in Junior Competitions or the U18 Competitions are exempt from
paying the competitor card fee for the 2014-2015 season.
6. Master Competitors must have paid EITHER a CCA Competitor Fee OR a
CurlManitoba Masters Fee.
NOTE:
All Competitor Fees MUST be purchased through the CurlManitoba office.
2015-2016 Season:
Competitor Fees will be required by athletes for each category (including juniors) for the
2015-2016 season.

QUALIFYING FOR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
1. Teams competing for Provincial Championship berths through bonspiels will be subject
to bonspiel rules.
2. All Berth Bonspiels, Sport Region Qualifiers and Bonspiels with a Berth will use a semimodified double knock out draw with a qualifier based on the number of teams
competing. CurlManitoba reserves the right to alter any draw format.
3. It is the sole responsibility of every team member to ensure the club they are
representing has submitted their name to CurlManitoba no later than
December 15, 2014. Any individual not on the club’s membership list will be
deemed ineligible.
4. All entries are the sole responsibility of the “signature of approval” on the entry form.
This person is the only person authorized to alter an entry, therefore maintaining the
team’s eligibility affirmation.
5. A team may register 5 players. During the bonspiel or the sport region qualifier only the
5 registered players may compete and the 5 players can play any position.
Exemption: The Travelers Curling Club Championship
6. NO SPARES ALLOWED.
7. 30 minutes prior to a team’s first game in any CurlManitoba competition (Sport Region
Qualifiers and Berth Bonspiels), the team MUST submit a completed and signed line up
card and give to the designated person. The penalty for not submitting the card is loss
of hammer in the first game the team has earned the hammer. Failure may also result
in making a team ineligible. During any competition line up cards will only be changed
when there is a player change.
8. Notification of the draw and event rules will come by email from the CurlManitoba office.
9. No payouts will be awarded at Sport Region Qualifiers and Berth Bonspiels.
10. Pre-game practice ice shall be provided during all Sport Region qualifiers and all berth
bonspiels. Each team will have a 5 minutes practice on the sheet they will play on - or
may throw 8 stones down and back – whichever is the lesser. If a team is not present
for the coin toss they will be deemed to have lost the toss. Based on the coin toss,
teams will have choice first practice or last practice or choice of color of stones. First
practice will begin at 20 minutes prior to game time. A bell will ring to signify the
beginning and conclusion of each practice session allowing for teams to switch over. A
named fifth player may participate in the pre-game practice.
11. The hammer will be determined by a draw to the house by one player at the completion
of the team’s practice. Only the four (4) athletes are allowed on the ice during the draw
for the hammer. Coaches and fifths must leave the ice area. An Infraction of the
procedure will result in a CurlManitoba penalty.
12. All Sport Region Qualifiers and Berth Bonspiels will be seeded by the teams that have
entered the event. The teams will have from Friday until Monday NOON turnaround
time to respond with their seeds. TEAMS WILL NOT SEED THEMSELVES.
13. At any Sport Region Qualifier and Berth Bonspiel with more than one spot the bonspiel
will be declared complete once the berths are declared.

(For example, the junior berth bonspiel has 2 berths so there will be no final game.)
14. All Sport Region Qualifiers and berth bonspiel games will use a 2 hour 15 minute bell
and will be ten end games. An end is considered complete (and the next end is
considered in progress) when the final stone of the end has reached the delivery end
tee line. Unless specified, a game may be conceded at any time. In the event of a tie at
the conclusion of play, play shall be continued without changing the rotation of play
(end the stones are thrown to) for such additional end or ends as may be required to
decide the winning team. However, the losing skip may; at any time declare the game
conceded.

minutes indicating that the end in progress shall be completed

15. In all Sport Region and Berth Bonspiel games, teams that lose the coin toss will have the
choice not taken by the team winning the coin toss. (choice shall be color of stones or
or second practice)
16. The A side winner in an A/B final will have choice of color. Teams will play with stones
as assigned and no stones may be moved or changed.
17. Commercial advertising may be worn on the apparel of participants during Berth
Bonspiels and Sport Region Qualifiers provided it is deemed to be in good taste and not
in direct conflict with provincial sponsors of the event.
SPORT REGION QUALIFYING
1. Prior to the start of competition every member of the team must meet all eligibility
requirements.
2. Sport Region play referred to herein does not include nor pertain to any bonspiel that
leads to a Provincial Championship berth.
3. To the extent practical (as defined below), teams will be expected to defeat at least
one other team to qualify as a Sport Region representative in the respective
Provincial Championship. Pairing Sport Regions will be in such a manner that no
team will be able to advance to a Provincial Championship without playing a game.
(For example, if 2 Sport Regions are paired and each sport region has 1 team entry
then 1 spot will be removed and the 2 teams will play for 1 provincial berth). To
accomplish this, each Sport Region will be ‘paired’ with a neighboring Sport Region.
Exception: Norman Region
4. CurlManitoba Sport Region pairs for all championships will be:
 Parkland and Westman
 Interlake and Eastman
 Central and Winnipeg
 Norman will NOT be required to pair up (due to geographical locations)

5. Region make-up is the sole responsibility of CurlManitoba. Member clubs by Sport
Region can be found on pages 50-56.
6. CurlManitoba will be responsible for coordinating the Sport Region playoff in the case
of one-entry Sport Regions OR for the transfer of the Sport Region berth to the ‘pair’
Sport Region in the case of zero-entry Sport Region. The CurlManitoba Sport Region
Qualifiers will be held on the specified dates throughout Manitoba. The dates are
published on the Calendar of Events.
 If in the case of one-entry each in the paired Sport Regions in Manitoba, one
berth will be awarded and the other berth will go to the Sport Region with the
highest participation ratio.
 If Winnipeg Sport Region entries fall below 3, the number of Sport Region
berths in the initial playoff will be reduced to one. The berth will go to the
Sport Region with the highest participation ratio.
 If there are not any entries in Norman Sport Region, the berth will go to the
Sport Region with the highest participation ratio.
BERTH BONSPIEL QUALIFYING
1. Prior to the start of competition every member of the team must meet all eligibility
requirements.
2. Teams playing in the qualifying round of all berth bonspiels must maintain eligibility
requirements to proceed to the Championship.
3. For any berth bonspiel being played for qualification in the next season’s Championship
all team members must be members in good standing of a member curling club.
BONSPIEL WITH A BERTH QUALIFYING
1. Manitoba Open Berths will be awarded through specific events.

the year of the current Chicken Chef Mixed Championship.
Note:
The Chicken Chef Mixed Provincial Championship for the 2014-2015 season will be
formatted as four (4) groups of four (4) with a maximum of 8 team playoff based on
final ranking overall. The only teams that may advance to the playoff round MUST have
a positive winning record at the end of the round robin.
The Chicken Chef Mixed Champion will be the winner of the playoff round.
The Championship will be played from Thursday afternoon practice, banquet Thursday
evening and the round robin and playoff being completed by Sunday evening.

CURLMANITOBA PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
PROVINCIAL GAME TIME OPERATION
1. All Provincial Championship games will use time clocks.
Exception: U18 and Masters Championships
2. Timing will be thinking time. The game time allotted to each team to complete 10
end games shall be 38 minutes per team. The game time allotted to each team for 8
ends shall be 30 minutes per team.
3. Extra ends will be 5 minutes.
4. The clock shall start once the house and playing area is turned over to the
opposition. The clock will continue to run until the player delivering the stone
crosses the delivery end T-line.
5. The time allotted between ends to clear the house shall be 1 minute commencing
once the last stone of the end comes to rest OR crosses the back line. If a measure
is required the umpire will stop the clock to be able to measure.
6. Each team will be allowed 2-one minute time outs per game excluding extra end(s).
Extra ends will be allotted 1-one minute time out per team.
7. During an end the team or coach whose clock is running may call a time out or the
team delivering first may call a time out between ends to commence at the
completion of the break between ends.
8. The umpire or CurlManitoba representative will determine the maximum amount of
time necessary for a coach to access their team. Two times will be determined, one
for the home end and one for the away end. The coaches will be notified of the set
time. The one minute time out will start immediately when a coach reaches their
team OR when the set time is completed.
CRESTING STANDARDS and DRESS CODE AT CHAMPIONSHIPS
MANDATED THAT ALL TITLE AND PRESENTING SPONSORS CRESTS BE
DISPLAYED ON ALL UNIFORMS
For the 2014-2015 season CurlManitoba has two cresting options. Option 1 parallels the
traditional cresting standards while option 2 provides a team with the opportunity to wear their
bonspiel attire under defined conditions.
At the Provincial Championships the following shall apply to all team personnel including
coaches and Fifth Players when on the ice surface either during play, time-outs or practice.
The Travelers Championship is exempt from the cresting standards.
OPTION 1: Standard Sponsorship Procedure
IT IS MANDATORY TO WEAR EVENT TITLE AND PRESENTING SPONSOR
CRESTS AT ALL TIMES ON THE ICE. (Crests are supplied by CurlManitoba)
1. No commercial advertising on apparel or equipment will be permitted during any
Provincial Championship except the following:
a) Team sponsor crests are allowed on team apparel at all Provincial
Championships.

b) TEAM SPONSOR CRESTING may be worn on the sleeve (between the shoulder
and elbow) and shall cover an area that is, in total, a maximum of 4” (10cm) tall
and a maximum of 4” (10cm) wide. TEAM SPONSOR CRESTING on the sleeve of
each player may be different and may represent more than one sponsor.
c) Team Sponsor cresting may be worn on the back. All advertising on the back is
limited to 4 x 8 inches. Placement is as follows:
TOP OF THE GARMENT: The bottom edge of the sponsor logo must be within 7
inches of the neckline
BOTTOM OF THE GARMENT: The top of the sponsor logo must be within 7
inches of the bottom hem of the garment.
d) TEAM SPONSOR CRESTING on each player may be different but can only display
one sponsor per jacket.
e) TEAM SPONSOR CRESTING shall not be in conflict with the Event Title Sponsor
or any other sponsors CurlManitoba deems to be in conflict
f) Reserved area for the TITLE SPONSOR CREST is on the left chest and the
PRESENTING SPONSOR CREST is on the right chest. This area is reserved even
when sponsor crests are not available.
g) Any garment that covers the event title sponsor crests while leaving the team
sponsor crest visible is unacceptable.
h) Title Sponsor crests earned by the participant in a previous year(s) may be worn
on the left chest at the current year championship if the event is sponsored by
the same title sponsor.
i) Title and Presenting Sponsor Crests from any current year championship may be
worn at any other championship (if the space on the chest is available because
no Title/Presenting Sponsor Crests are provided for the second championship)
j) CURLMANITOBA SPORT REGION & BERTH BONSPIEL CRESTS may be worn on
the sleeves, below team sponsor cresting, or on the right chest if no Presenting
Sponsor Crest is provided.
k) It is NOT mandatory to wear the CURLMANITOBA CRESTS.
l) It is NOT permissible to cover unacceptable cresting or advertising with duct
tape or shiny fabric (or other similar products). It must be covered in like fabric
of the same color.
m) GARMENT MANUFACTURER’S LOGOS may be of various dimensions but shall be
no more than 2 in2 (13cm2) in total area.
n) GARMENT MANUFACTURER’S LOGOS may appear no more than twice on any
garment
o) The individual participant’s own name, the team’s home club or home town, and
cresting from a previous year’s event recognizing the same title sponsor may be
worn at any championship. No garment worn on the ice surface by athletes or
coaches will display any other types of cresting, embroidery, screened or printed
graphics or logos (except as defined above)
p) HATS are permitted at all championships but shall not display any cresting,
embroidery, screened or printed graphics or logos except that of the title
sponsor, the previous year’s event recognizing the same title sponsor, the team’s
home club or home town. Manufacturer’s logos are permitted but shall be limited
in size to no more than 2 in2 (13cm2) in total area. Hats must be worn peak
forward or peak backward at all times.
q) CurlManitoba cresting, and shirts or hats provided by CurlManitoba are
permitted.
r) If a garment or piece of equipment is deemed inappropriate, it shall not be
allowed in the ice area.

s) A player or team may be disqualified if one or more team members fail to comply
with any dress code.
OPTION 2:
Exemption Sponsorship Procedure
A Fee of $500 per team ($300 per junior team) can be paid to
CurlManitoba for the following sponsorship recognition

1. The ONLY restriction on commercial advertising on apparel during any Provincial
Championship will be the following:
a) Team sponsor crests are allowed on team apparel at all Provincial
Championships. However, it is mandated that a 4 inch square for men and a 4
inch square for women must be bare on the right and left chest of all garments.
b) TEAM SPONSOR CRESTING shall not be in conflict with the Event Title Sponsor
or any other sponsors CurlManitoba deems to be in conflict.
c) Title Sponsor crests earned by the participant in a previous year(s) may be worn
on the left chest at the current year championship if the event is sponsored by
the same title sponsor.
2. Any other sponsorship is allowed on any portion of the garments IF not in conflict
with CurlManitoba sponsors. To ensure that team sponsorship is not in conflict with
CurlManitoba sponsorship it is the responsibility of the team to seek approval from
CurlManitoba prior to each Provincial Championship.
3. All sponsorship exemptions must be paid to the CurlManitoba office 7 days prior to
any Provincial Championship.
ALL TEAMS:
1. No commercial advertising on apparel will be permitted during any Provincial
Championships except as described in the CurlManitoba Dress Code Policy.
2. Teams will not be permitted to transport and/or display on-ice any type of sponsorship
signage in any CurlManitoba conducted events. Where applicable, cresting standards
shall be in effect.
3. Coaches must be dressed in black dress pants or black curling pants or pants that match
the team’s uniform to be allowed ice access.
4. Teams will not be permitted to distribute promotional items to the fans while games are
in progress.
5. So as not to disturb other curlers, all electronic communication devices brought on-ice
must be turned off prior to play beginning. This includes cellular telephones, electronic
pagers, beepers, etc.
6. Consumption of alcohol and tobacco products on-ice will not be permitted during
Provincial Championship play.
Permissible cresting is at the sole discretion of CurlManitoba Umpires
All cresting and uniforms will be approved at the pre-competition
practice. Please bring all curling attire to the pre-event practice.

Provincial Rules
1. The draw shall be prepared by CurlManitoba
2. All games in Provincial Championships will be 10 ends with a minimum of 5 ends
required. Any team defaulting a game in the Provincial Championships for other than
extenuating circumstances (weather, multiple injury, etc) will be dealt with as follows:
All members of that team will be disqualified from further play in that competition and
will not be allowed to compete in any CurlManitoba sanctioned competition for the
remainder of the season in which the default takes place.
As well, all team members involved will not be allowed to participate in any CurlManitoba
sanctioned competition for the year (season) following the infraction.
Exception: Senior Women, Senior Men, Master Women, Master Men and U18
Championships shall be 8 ends with a minimum of 4 ends required.
3. At the Provincial Championship a coaching break of 5 minutes will be mandated after the
fifth end in addition to two 1-minute time outs per team. One 1-minute time out per
team will be allowed in an extra end. Time outs not used during regulation play may not
be carried over to the extra ends.
4. All 8 end games at the Senior and Master Championships shall have a 5 minute break
after the fourth end. The 4th end break will be at the discretion of the umpire.
5. In all games, where play cannot be continued due to ice conditions and/or problems
within the building; such as power failure, condensation falling, etc., and subject to
approval of the Umpire and the CurlManitoba Competition Chairperson, play shall be
resumed at the point of the last completed end. This rule shall not apply in games where
the game has been declared due to a team being late.
6. All competitors are expected to attend all meetings and Umpire functions associated with
the Provincial Championship. Failure to have at least one player or the registered coach
present at the pre-competition team briefing prior to the conclusion of roll call will result
in loss of hammer in the first game of the competition in which last stone has been
earned.
7. A coach and any team member cannot be the same person.
8. In all games of the competition a pre-game practice of seven (7) minutes will be
provided, choice of last stone for the game will be determined by a draw to the button,
which will occur at the conclusion of each team’s pre-game practice.
9. A player from the team, at the conclusion of the team practice shall throw a draw shot,
which shall be measured by the Umpire. In the event of a tie, the Skill Based Ranking
will be used as a tie breaker. Please refer to Skill Based Ranking on page 41.
10. Each team member will be required to deliver a minimum of one (1) draw shot for last
stone advantage during the competition.
Exception: Safeway Championship
11. A team personnel card must be completed and presented to the Umpire prior to their
first pre-game practice of the competition. A team that does not hand in the game roster

will be required to do so prior to their team practice. If team personnel changes from the
original card in a subsequent game a new personnel card must be completed and
presented to the umpire prior to the practice of the game.
12. A minimum of 30 minutes before the draw, the teams shall toss a coin to determine the
order of practice and stone colour. The winner of the toss shall have choice of second
practice or stone colour.
13. At all Championships where eight (8) sheets of ice are used for a combined event, each
event will be placed on four (4) distinct sheets with the playoffs being on the four (4)
same sheets. Stone selection will be from the four (4) sheets assigned to the event.

1) All athletes at any CurlManitoba must show respect for the game of curling.
2) The Umpires at all Championship events are empowered to eject a player from a game
for unsportsmanlike behavior of any kind including verbal abuse directed at anyone
including team mates, opposition, volunteers or CurlManitoba representatives.
3) There will be no warnings for any infraction.
4) An appeal process is outlined by CurlManitoba. (www.curlmanitoba.org/policies)
Dress Code (Banquets)
1) All Team Members attending a Championship banquet are expected to dress in business
casual attire.
2) No jeans of any kind, sweatpants, hoodies or hats.
3) If a team attends in a poor fashion the penalty may be loss of hammer in the first game
the team has earned the hammer.
4) A CurlManitoba representative or a CurlManitoba Umpire may enforce the dress code.

Sixteen Team Round Robin:

The competition shall consist of two groups of eight teams with each group competing in a
round robin competition where the two teams with the most wins from each group shall
advance to a playoff round. The playoff round shall use a four-team page playoff to determine
the provincial champion.
Sixteen Team Round Robin:
Mixed
The competition shall consist of four groups of four teams with each group competing in a
round robin competition where a maximum of the top eight teams with a positive record shall
advance to a playoff round. The playoff round shall be a double knockout format with the
teams placed as per the final standings of the round robin.
Hammer will be determined by a draw by any player for the entire Championships.
Eight Team Round Robin:
U18 Women & U18 Men, Mixed Doubles
The competition shall consist of two groups of four teams with each group competing in a
round robin competition where the two teams with the most wins from each group shall
advance to a playoff round. The playoff round shall use a four-team page playoff to determine
the provincial champion.
Twelve Team Round Robin:
Travelers Curling Club Championship
The competition shall consist of two groups of six teams with each group competing in a round
robin competition where the two teams with the most wins from each group shall advance to a
playoff round. The playoff round shall use a four-team page playoff to determine the provincial
champion.
Open Entry Bonspiel
Senior Women and Master Women
The Provincial Championship for Senior Women and Master Women shall be decided by an open
entry bonspiel. The format will be determined by CurlManitoba after the entry deadline.
Thirty-Two Team Modified Knock Out:
Safeway
The Safeway Provincial Championship shall be a thirty two (32) team modified double knockout
draw. Eight (8) teams advancing to a semi modified double knockout qualifying round with four
(4) teams advancing to the Safeway Four Championship page playoff round.
For the Provincial Championship, all 32 teams will be ranked and seeded into the standard draw
format (#1 vs. #32, #2 vs. #31, #3 vs. #30, etc)
In all games of the competition leading up to the final eight, hammer will be determined by a
draw which will occur at the conclusion of each team’s pre-game practice. Any player from the
team, at the conclusion of the team practice shall throw a draw shot, which shall be measured
by the Umpire. In the event of a team covering the pin, the team will conduct another draw
shot using a different player until a draw shot can be measured to a maximum of three shots.
For the final eight, A - side winners will have the choice of last stone or stone colour for the first
game. The team with last stone shall have first practice.

1. The Skill based ranking shall be an accumulated number determined from the draw to
the button stones for hammer at the conclusion of the pre-game practice.
2. Both team’s throws will be recorded at all times. If a team removes their stone prior to
measurement the team will be allotted the distance of the outside of the next closest
ring.
3. If a team covers the pin during first practice, another player must throw another stone.
4. Each team member will be required to deliver a minimum of one (1) draw shot for last
stone advantage. Four different players must participate in the SBR; if a five man team
is declared only four players can participate. (Exception Safeway and Chicken Chef
Mixed)

5. A draw for last stone advantage that if moved by a member of the non-delivering team
or an external force moves a stationary stone or causes it to be moved before the
umpire completes the measurement, the stone is replaced to its original position by the
delivering team
6. In all Championship events, for the first game of an event, if there should be a tie for
last stone both teams shall throw another draw shot by a different player. The first draw
will be added to the accumulated SBR.
7. After the first draw the accumulated SBR will be posted and shall be used to determine
last stone in case of a tie.
Exemption: Mixed Championship
8. The accumulated SBR (less the one worst of all attempts will be dropped) will be used
for all tie breaker games.
9. In the case of a tie in the Skill Based Ranking standings the teams tied will drop the
second worst attempt to determine the team’s placement. If still tied drop the third
worst attempt and so on.
Spare Pool
All Championships will have a spare pool available to the teams. The spare pool is made up of
competitive curlers from the Sport Region that the Championship is held in.
A short biography of the players will be available upon request.
Special Rules
1. At the discretion of the CurlManitoba Umpire, teams will be allowed up to one half hour
from the conclusion of their previous game to exercise their choice of last stone and/or
color as outlined in the rules.
2. There will be no ice time provided for selecting stone color or for selecting stones.
3. Where two provincial championship finals are played concurrently in the same venue,
each event will be designated to four sheets of ice.
4. The CurlManitoba Event Representative in consultation with the umpire shall decide ice
assignment for tie-breaker(s), and playoff games.
5. During the draw shot for hammer the coaches and fifth players are NOT allowed in the
Ice area.
6. The stone color, stone selection and first end last stone advantage is charted on the
next page.

PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP TIE-BREAKERS AND

Round Robin Tie-breaker
1) Should two or more teams be tied for a playoff position, the team ranking and the
structure of tie-breaker games shall be determined according to the Ranking Table for
Tiebreakers. When three draws are required to complete the tie-breaking scenario,
games will be 8 ends.
2) The skill based ranking for tie breakers will be used for team placement in all
tiebreakers.

1) Two teams from each pool will advance to the playoff round. The playoff round shall be
either a page playoff or a single knock-out playoff as specified in the rules of the

1) All teams at a Provincial Championship are competing for the Provincial Title. The
winning team shall be eligible to represent Manitoba in competition for the Canadian
Curling Championship. However, CurlManitoba reserves the right to select the team to
represent Manitoba at the National Championship.
2) An alternate player shall accompany the winning team to the Canadian Championship
for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the Brier. The alternate is chosen by the
team from any member club in Manitoba. This athlete will take part in all functions as a
team member. The alternate player must be named at the time CurlManitoba declares
the National representative.

WCF Rules for MIXED DOUBLES
A Mixed Doubles team consists of two players (one male and one female)
RULES
1. Scoring is the same as in regular curling.
2. Each game will consist of eight ends. If at the completion of the scheduled ends the
score is tied, play shall continue for the extra ends required to determine the winning
team.
3. Each team shall receive 48 minutes of playing time for an eight-end game. When extra
ends are required, the clocks will be reset, and each team shall receive 6 minutes of
playing time for each extra end.
4. Each team shall deliver five stones per end. The player delivering his/her team’s first
stone of the end must also deliver his/her team’s last stone of that end. The other team
member shall deliver the team’s second, third and fourth stones for that end. The player
delivering the first stone can change from end to end.
5. No stone, including those in the house, can be removed from play prior to the delivery
of the fourth stone of an end. If there is a violation, the delivered stone shall be
removed from play, and any displaced stone(s) shall be replaced to their original
position by the non-offending team.
6. Prior to the start of every end, one team shall instruct the game umpire to place their
team’s stationary stone (1), and their opponent’s stationary stone (1), in either position
A or B:
A
A stone bisecting the centre line, midway between the hog line and the front of
the house; or
B
A stone on the back half of the button, bisecting the centre line and touching
the tee line.
7. The team having the decision on the placement of the stationary stones shall be:
(a) Unless predetermined, the teams opposing each other in the game shall use a
coin toss to determine which team has the decision in the first end.
(b) Following the first end, the team that lost the end will have the decision on the
placement.
(c) If an end is blanked, the team that did not deliver the last stone in that end
shall have the decision on placement in the next end.
8. The team whose stationary stone is placed in the position in front of the house shall
deliver first in that end, and the team whose stationary stone is placed in the house
shall deliver the second stone of that end.
9. Prior to the start of every game at WCF competitions, each team shall be allowed a 5
minute warm-up period on the sheet on which they will be playing. The team delivering
the last stone in the first end shall practice first.

TRAVELERS CURLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
National Championship Eligibility Requirements 2015
We trust that all participants will respect the intent of this championship which is for curling
clubs to engage their members to participate in a club championship to represent the curling
club. The event is formulated for true club curlers, not elite, past or present. The objective is to
support the development of curling across Canada. They keep this objective in mind in setting
eligibility requirements and on-ice rules, including CCA Rules of Curling for General Play. The
Travelers reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to exclude any team that violates this spirit
and intent as it pertains to the rules below.
1. The curling club, represented by the team, must be affiliated with its Provincial/Territory
Association and all dues must be paid in full. Any player can be a member of more than
one affiliated curling club, but shall declare one “home club” for this competition.
2. Each club will declare a men's team and women's team of four (4) to represent their
club through either their normal league or club championship process or through a
designated Travelers Curling Club Championship competition within the club. The
declared teams, through either process, MUST have at least three players that have
played together in a sanctioned club league during the current season. A replacement
fourth player (i.e., a player who did not play regularly on the team throughout the
season) MUST play lead.
Players who play exclusively in a major/super league without playing in another
sanctioned club league are ineligible to compete.
3. Each team will be allowed only one player who has played in a Junior's, Men's, Women's
or Seniors' provincial/territory event in the current or previous 4 curling seasons or
participated in a Grand Slam event in the current or previous 4 curling seasons.
(20010-11, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015)
No player on the team can have played in a Canadian Junior, Men’s. Women’s or
Senior’s Canadian Championship for those years.
**EXCEPTION: Provinces/Territories with OPEN provincials/territories will be
permitted 1 player who has placed top 25% in a Junior's, Men's, Women's or
Seniors' provincial/territory event in the current or previous 4 years, or participated
in a Grand Slam event in the current or previous 4 curling seasons.
4. Players/Teams who competed in the 2014 Travelers Curling Club Championship national
event are ineligible to compete in the 2015 play downs.
5. All games will be 8 ends with ties being decided by a full extra end.
6. No fifths or coaches are allowed.
7. Once a four person team has been declared, a maximum of 1 replacement/spare player
from the club can play lead. It is at the discretion of each club to determine their
replacement/substitute rules throughout their process to declare their club champions.
8. Each team must be comprised of 4 players aged 19 or over, as of Novembers 1, 2015.
Travelers has the sole authority to grant exceptions to these rules in extraordinary
circumstances. Before exercising this discretion, The Travelers will consult with the relevant
Provincial/Territorial curling association, and will notify the Provincial/Territorial association in
Writing of any decisions regarding exceptions that are granted.
Individual curling associations may adopt more restrictive criteria if they choose

STICK CURLING RULES
TWO MAN STICK
1.
Each stone must be delivered with a curling delivery stick, from a standing or
sitting (wheelchair) position.
This provides equity for those physically unable to attain a sliding position. Skill is
still required to attain both alignment and weight.
2.
Sweeping/brushing is allowed only from the hog line to the back of the house at the
playing end.
This provides fairness to those with physical limitations unable to sweep/brush.
3.
Each team is comprised of two curlers. Everyone is occupied either delivering or
skipping.
4.
One member of each team stays at each end of the rink, and must not cross center ice.
This increases the pace of the game and responsibilities are shared by the two team
members.
5.
The two delivering curlers alternately deliver 6 stones each per end, while the teammate
skips the end. Then roles reverse and the partners deliver the stones back. 18 stones
are delivered per person each game.
6.
All games are 6 ends. In case of a tie an extra end is played, with each player
delivering 3 stones. The skip and delivery exchange roles at the midpoint in the
extra end.
7.
No stones may be removed from play prior to delivery of the fourth stone of
each end. If a stone is removed, the delivered stone is removed from play and
all other stones are returned to their original positions. This includes stones in
the house as well as in the free guard zone.
8.
Except for wheelchair curlers, each delivery must begin with the right foot in the left
hack, for right handed curlers, or with the left foot in the right hack, for left handed
curlers. All stones must be released before reaching the hog line, and with some part of
the stone within 2 feet of the center line.
Since drastically changing the course of a stone mid-delivery is possible with a stick,
releasing stones from near the sides of the sheet would change the game unduly.
9.
All other rules and etiquette of regular curling apply.
Four Man Stick Curling follows the same rules with the exception on Rules 3, 4, and 5.

CurlManitoba Rules Changes
2014-2015 Season
1. In all regional qualifiers and berth bonspiels the toss of the coin will determine choice of 1st or
2nd practice OR choice of stone color.
2. All 8 end games will have a bell of 1 hour and 45 minutes unless otherwise indicated for an
event.
3. All junior events will use a draw to the button for hammer.
4. For the spring bonspiels awarding berths for the next season’s Championships all players must
be members of any CurlManitoba member club. At the start of the next season the team must
declare their designated member club.
5. A minimum of 6 ends must be completed for the Youth Winter and Youth Spring Bonspiels.
6. All Sponsor and Presenting crests MUST be worn at Provincial Championships when available.
The cresting policy has been changed refer to pages 35-37.
7. At all Provincial Championships where 8 sheets and 2 events are in play each event will be
designated to 4 sheets of ice.
8. At the Chicken Chef Provincial Mixed Championship ONLY teams with a positive win/loss record
will advance to the playoff round. Therefore the playoff round may vary in number to a
maximum of 8 teams.
9. Berth Allocation for Championships has changed (refer to pages 26-34).
10. Time Clocks are 38 minutes for 10 end games and 30 minutes for 8 end games.
CCA Rules Changes
2014-2018 Season
Rules shall remain consistent throughout the Olympic Qualification process; however, the CCA will
consider rule changes (if any during the quadrennial) that make sense for fair play for all players
following consultation with all stakeholders and approval of the membership at the Annual General
Meeting in August 2014.
1. Thinking Time will be 38 minutes for 10 ends and 30 minutes for 8 ends. Extra ends are 4:30
minutes.
2. Thinking Time for Wheelchair and Vision Impaired Championships are 36 minutes for an 8 end
game and 6 minutes for an extra end.
3. A stone may be re-touched by the person delivering the stone without penalty before the
hogline.
4. The delivery stone is ALWAYS removed and the displaced stone always replaced when an
infraction in the FGZ occurs. Stones previously in the FGZ that are advanced to the rings may
be removed at that time.
5. Only right handed deliveries shall be initiated from the hack located to the left of the centre
line and only left handed deliveries shall be initiated from the hack located to the right of the
centre line.
6. Junior Age Change (2015-2016 season)-To be eligible to play in the Curling Championships
and qualifying events, a player must be less than 21 years of age by the end of the 30th day
of June of the year immediately preceding the year in which the championship is to take place.
i.e. If you are born between July 1 and December 31, 1994 you will be eligible to play
juniors in the 2015-2016 season.
