DESCRIPTION
The FCU(A,F) fan coil unit is a high-performance,
cost-effective and compact solution for the cooling of
technical compartments on board vessels. The
FCU(A,F) is the right solution where limited installation space and a cooling load exists. The three
FCU(A,F) unit sizes cover an airflow range of
0.15–0.6 m3/s and a cooling capacity range of
3–53 kW in the DX-coil variant and 2–45 kW in the
chilled-water coil variant.
Design
The FCU(A,F) casing is of double-skin sheet steel
design with intervening 25 mm thick mineral wool
insulation. Galvanized sheet steel or stainless sheet steel
of AISI 304 (SIS 2333) or AISI 316 (SIS 2343) quality
can be selected. The large service covers are equipped
with robust, easy-to-use handles; the covers can be lifted
off the unit after they have been opened.
The main components of the FCU(A,F) are installed in
a common casing at the factory. This minimizes the
installation work in ventilation systems and provides a
compact design. The smooth surfaces inside the unit
make the FCU(A,F) hygienic and easy to clean.
Overall dimensions
The FCU(A,F) has relatively small overall dimensions in
terms of its capacity and the airflow that it generates.
The three sizes of unit are 400, 450 and 500 mm high
respectively; and 605, 705 and 805 mm wide
respectively. The unit casing is 1185 mm long and the
base frame is 1385 mm long in all three unit sizes.
Thanks to its compact dimensions, the FCU(A,F) can
easily be situated in all the relevant spaces.
Installation options
The FCU(A,F) should normally be installed suspended
from a deck head or secured by means of bolts to the
deck. The vertical variant of the FCUA is designed for
bulkhead-mounting.
Applications
The FCU(A,F) fan coil unit is well-suited for chilling
the surplus heat arising in technical compartments on
board vessels. The unit uses 100% recirculated air.

Fan
The fan in the FCU(A,F) is a direct-driven, centrifugal fan
with forward-curved impeller blades. This eliminates the
drawbacks of belt-drive operation, such as the need for
retensioning or replacing drive belts and capacity losses.
The fan is isolated from the unit casing by means of antivibration mountings and a flexible duct. Therefore, the fan
coil unit does not require any extra external insulation.
Filter
The FCU(A,F) is available with two types of filter. The
FCUA has a Class EU3 flat filter with replaceable filter
mat whereas the FCUF has a Class EU5 disposable bagtype filter. The filter and the droplet eliminator are split
into two sections which reduces the amount of space
beside the unit needed for servicing.
Air cooler
– The DX-Coil air cooler is available in versions for
type R22, R407C and R134A refrigerant as well as
for chilled water. The coolers can be selected with
copper tubes and aluminium or copper fins. All the
types of air cooler are available in 4 capacity variants
with 3, 4, 6 or 8 tube rows arranged in the direction
of air flow.
– The chilled water coil (air cooler) has nipples for the
installation of a purging valve and an anti-frosting
protection sensor.
– A thermometer located downstream of the coil is
included in the supply.
Equipment/Accessories
The following additional equipment/accessories for the
FCU(A,F) are available:
– EUAZ-08 water trap for connection to the drain
connection of the drip tray beneath the cooling coil
– EUAZ-21 expansion valves for the DX-cooler (R22,
R407C, R134A)
– FCUZ replacement filters (EU3, EU5)
