Dear Friends,
During this time of healthcare reform, the importance of home health services is increasing, making the role of our agencies even more vital. We are grateful for the generosity and commitment of our donors and supporting organizations which help ensure a comprehensive range of home health and end-­‐of-­‐life care to the local community.
Last year, we cared for patients and families from 90 cities and towns in the Merrimack Valley, Northeastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. In 2011, Home Health VNA was named for the second year in a row among the HomeCare Elite – one of the top agencies in the country for quality care and patient satisfaction. For many patients and families, service by our VNA is often The “teal door” has become a recognized symbol of trust, compassion and personalized care along a spectrum of needs. Our ability to offer care along the entire continuum – medical care, specialized nursing, homemaking services, personal care, hospice and palliative services – means coordinated care, peace of mind for patients and families, and ease of communication. With all three of our agencies accredited by Joint Commission – choosing service from any of them comes with our commitment to patients, quality professional staff, and collaborate with York Hospital to bring our hospice and palliative care into Maine. We are eager to lay plans to add more suites to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, and we will play a vital role in helping to reduce post-­‐hospital re-­‐admission rates as healthcare reform takes shape to ensure the right care for patients, at the right time, and in the right place. A personal perspective
In different stages of life we can do different things, give in different ways.
My support of Merrimack Valley Hospice has evolved since I became involved in 1992. After hip
surgery and the wonderful care I received through the Home Health VNA nurses and caregivers,
I wanted to give something back. As a hospice volunteer for nearly 17 years, I recognized the
incredible value of the work being done by the agencies, as well as the unique benefits that a
hospice house could provide. Helping to fund Merrimack Valley Hospice House carried out my
intention to help patients and their families. Reaching out beyond yourself connects you to the
spirit of humanity. That is why I continue to give as I can to a cause that is meaningful to me.
