LEC FOUNDATION
Residents at Life Enriching Communities have the gift of wisdom that
comes from cumulative life experiences. You also have the opportunity to
reflect on what has been most important – most meaningful – about your life.
Using this wisdom, I am curious how you would answer this question:
What is most important to pass on to your heirs?
When this question was asked in a recent survey, 74% of respondents said
“Values and Life Lessons.” Cornell University gerontologist, Karl Pillemer,
who interviewed more than 1,200 Americans mostly 70 and up for the
Legacy Project and his book, 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice
from the Wisest Americans, states: “We found that many of the elders see
transmitting their values and core principles as their most important legacy.”
While there are many ways you can choose to pass on values, the sad
reality is that while most people formally plan to pass on their “stuff,” few
actually focus on passing on their values.
For example, your children are probably most familiar with your values.
How familiar with your values are your grandchildren?
What is important for them to know about your values?
What are your core life beliefs you want to pass on?
If your heirs are asked the question, “What was most important to your
grandparents?” how do you think they would answer the question?
How would you want them to answer the question?
Your LEC Foundation has the expertise to help you create a plan for
passing on values to those you love most in this world. Please stop in for a
conversation to discuss various ways for you to pass on your values. Please
reach out to Molly Talbot by calling 719-3540.
Happy Spring!
(This article was written by Barbara Culver of Connect-Gens. Connect-Gens is dedicated to
strengthening families by creating lasting legacies through legacy families.)

News for You
Birds chirping, trees budding, flowers blooming, days getting
longer and warmer, Red’s opening day -- signs of Spring are finally
here! Unfortunately, this time of year is also the time when solicitors,
scammers and schemers prey on unsuspecting people. Twin Lakes
has a notice of no solicitation filed with the City of Montgomery Police
Department. If you encounter any solicitors or canvassers at Twin
Lakes, please contact the Life Safety Dept. at x1375 or the
Montgomery Police Department at 985-1600.
If at any time you feel you are being scammed or find yourself in
an uncomfortable situation, the top five things to remember are:

If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

When it comes to a “now or never” opportunity, choose “never”.

Keep account numbers, codes and passwords private.

Shred bills, and receipts when discarding them (You may take
them to the Welcome Center and use our shredder if you do not
have one.)

Don’t be afraid to report your experience. If you feel
uncomfortable, tell someone.
As part of Twin Lakes’ commitment to provide you with
“exceptional everyday experiences”, we are going to deliver a ten
question assessment to your mail box on April 4th. This assessment
should take less than five minutes to complete and your input is very
valuable and important. Please take time to fill out and return to the
Welcome Center at your convenience. We are continually trying to
improve our services at Twin Lakes.
Again, thank you for choosing Twin Lakes as your home.

Resident Corner
Art & Betty Veser
Did you ever go on a blind date? If so, did you find the man or woman of your dreams? Betty and Art
Veser did! Once upon a time, two young women and two young men planned to meet for blind dates. The
two young men rode together to the date, went to the door, and were admitted by the two women.
Immediately, Betty was attracted to Art and hoped that he would be her date. He was! That date led to more
dates, and those dates led to a long, happy marriage of sixty-two years.
Both Betty and Art were born in Cincinnati, thirty-seven days apart, but they never met until that blind
date when they were twenty-two years old. Betty attended Western Hills High School, and Art went to
Hughes High School.
After they graduated from high school, she worked at the telephone company, while Art spent two years
at the University of Cincinnati studying engineering. Betty continued working at the telephone company for
thirteen years while Art was employed at GE. In that time period they had two children, a son and a daughter. After the children were born, Betty decided to take time off until the children were old enough to go to
school. Then she went back to work at a doctor's office for twenty years while Art worked at GE from 1950 to
1986 as a configuration designer of jet engines.
Betty and Art are very close to their children. Their son, Dale, works at Camargo Cadillac on the same
street where they live now, and their daughter, Sherry Franks, is a hairstylist in Kenwood.
Art and Betty looked at many, many retirement communities before they decided to move to Twin Lakes.
In fact, one day they took their car to Camargo Cadillac to have it serviced, and they decided to take a walk
around Twin Lakes while they waited. They were impressed and especially liked the lake. They eventually
looked at a Lakeside Villa, liked it and the view very much, and decided to move here where they are living
happily now.
They also have an activity that gives them immense pleasure now and has for all their life together. That is
the love of traveling. They started taking trips by spending their honeymoon at Pikes Peak and have since
taken many trips all over the world. For instance, among other things, they have bicycled in Holland, they
helicoptered over the Grand Canyon, and they have taken at least twenty-five destination cruises all over the
world.
In addition to traveling, they both have hobbies they enjoy. Art loves to tinker with cars, and he also plays
drums. He has played at wedding receptions with the Queen City Concert Band and at retirement homes, so
perhaps we should have him perform at Twin Lakes. Betty has been an avid swimmer most of her life and
continues to be involved in swimming.
They both say very emphatically that they have had a wonderful life, and they are still living a wonderful
life!

Wishing a Blessed Easter to all our Residents, Associates, Campus Shop
Volunteers and Customers
Easter is late this year, but the Campus Shop is ready with Easter greeting cards, hand-crafted Easter
cards, decorative spring flowers, and a lot of new merchandise which must be seen to be appreciated.
Come and browse the Campus Shop. We appreciate your business and so do the Benevolent Care Fund
and the Pastoral Care Fund.
If you are using a Campus Shop Gift Certificate to purchase any item, please notify the volunteer
on duty before the sale. We are hoping the anonymous candy maker who lives on the lake will be
making her delicious chocolate candies for Easter.
As you begin to think of your garden or filling the planters on your porch or balcony, think Benken
Gift cards. Each $25 card purchased provides $5 toward Benevolent Care and Pastoral Care Funds.
If you have not yet paid your 2014 dues to be a member of Friends of Twin Lakes, please drop your
dues payment off at the Welcome Center and mark your calendar for “Bingo with a Bling” on Friday,
May 16th. Encourage your adult children and grandchildren to join because we need many members to
help with fund-raisers. Brochures are always available in the Campus Shop. Help us grow “Friends of
Twin Lakes.”
Friends of Twin Lakes meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm in the Chapel. Mark
your calendar and attend so we will have the thoughts of all members in making decisions about
fund-raisers. Funds are raised through membership dues, Campus Shop sales, and special events such
as Bingo with a Bling, Whale of a Sale, Holiday Boutique, Valentine Day sales, etc. Thanks to all who
support and attend these events.
The May volunteer sign-up sheet will be in the Campus Shop on April 1st. It is very helpful if you sign
up by April 28th. The work of all our volunteers is much appreciated. The Campus Shop could not exist
except for our loyal and faithful volunteers. Thanks.
Heritage Healthcare, our therapy department,
is offering a free educational program each month.
This month: Aquatic Therapy and Car Fit
Thursday, April 17th
1:00pm in the Chapel
