We have 3 days of professional learning planned for the second week to help us grow as educators. The term breaks are a good opportunity for us all to recharge our batteries and get ready for another busy term of learning. I myself am involved in 3 days of learning as a Beginning Principal in the first week as well - some exciting opportunities for me to develop and learn new skills. On Friday 26th June, we farewelled Mrs Roskam from Room 12 who is now on maternity leave until the end of 2016. I know you will join me in wishing Krystal all the very best with her exciting adventure ahead! I would like to acknowledge and thank Krystal for the incredible energy and enthusiasm she brought to school every day. We look forward to meeting her new pink bundle of joy as soon as possible! Welcome aboard to Miss Rachel Dravitski who will continue the teaching and learning programmes in Room 12 through to the end of 2015. I would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Joce Hennebry who has been teaching in Room 10 since Mrs Williamson broke her wrists! Thanks for keeping Room 10 ticking along, for supporting the children and their parents and for your on-going commitment to the wider teaching programmes at Vardon School. With 2 weeks of no school upon you, plan ways to Get your kids active and out of the house, and off the couch these holidays. Plan a walk outside, or along the river banks, go to the movies, to the lake playground, or to the Base, visit the museum or our amazing zoo. Invite friends over. Prepare for some rainy weather Visit the library and check out craft or project books. Bake with your kids. Visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, or friends. Above all else READ and Talk to your kids about what is going on around them, this will help them when they come back to class next term as well. Our last day is tomorrow, Friday (3rd July). School finishes at 3:00PM. We look forward to seeing you all back at school when Term 3 starts on Monday 20th July at 9.00am. CHESS TEAM The Chess Power Interschools Chess tournament was held on Thursday 28th May at Peachgrove Intermediate. Vardon School entered a team of 15 children and had some great results. All our children won at least one game on the day. A number of our children played against High School students! The Top Female Player in the Junior Division was Nisha Moorfield. Of the top 3 Junior Players Jack Murray finished 2nd and Nisha Moorfield finished 3rd and in the Team competition Vardon School finished 1st! This means that the Vardon School team have qualified to send 5 players to the Chess Power National Finals in Auckland in October 2015. WELL DONE OUR CHESS TEAM!
