The Rabbit is the animal associated with Chang O, the Moon Goddess... I have not found a good online version of her story. But, part of it is
about solitude and contemplation. With a rabbit as her companion.

Good night, Marsha. What model of Sony camera do you have ? I need to think about replacing our old digital camera. I'm not a great
photographer and don't need anything with a lot of "bells and whistles"; but I'm looking for something that takes good everyday pictures.

It's a Sony Steady Shot. I'm not sure you can get it anymore..this was over 2 years ago. But really anything will work. I have a simple
one...has a dial for different settings, uses a card, and is very nice IMO.
Do your homework online, if you see one. Get extra cards....and LOTS of batteries! I use rechargable ones and have tons. I have a carrying
case full of batteries ready to go, cannot be without them!
Good luck, and like I said, shop around, do your homework and experiment. Delete will be your best freind! LOL

Thanks, Marsha. I never buy anything like that without a lot of research. I will be replacing a 10 yr. old Sony Cyber-shot. It was very
expensive at the time. I have loved it, but it is only 3.3 mega pixels, it is heavy and a little bulky and we are having some problems with it. We
only recently replaced the battery which charges in the camera and lasts for a long time before needing to be recharged. I'm hoping to find
something where I don't have to carry around a lot of spare batteries.

I was blessed after my husband was hurt to have freinds who gave us money to do "whatever we wanted with it..not pay a bill, have fun with
it"..and so we got a new digital camera. Just a Sony..and from Wal-Mart too!! I've gotten amazing pictures.
Thanks, not sure how many people could see the moon..and wanted to share.

Just checking in. It was a long day, but a great one, since I got to meet Bionc Woman today and enjoy an informative visit to the California Raptor Center at UC
Davis. These birds are so beautiful and fierce. We were able to see lots of live birds, including owls, eagles, hawks, and kestrels. There was a very informative
presentation on raptor anatomy, adaptations, and rehabilitation. It was really worthwhile.

I imagine that she is being prosecuted for her false accusations. It sounds like she needs help more than prosecution. I think you would have to
be fairly desperate to intentionally permanently disfigure yourself. Did she offer any explanation to the police for why she did it?
Ya, my husband and I were talking about that.....She is being prosecuted because she got alot of money from people. I think she was supose to
appear on Oprah but canceled. Her face was so bad though...I can't imagine the pain she is going through. She looks young to me, but I am not
sure how old she is? I can't imagine how someone could do that to themselves? Very sad.

I understand her parents are to give back everyone's money.
I hope she gets the help she needs. She's a very unhappy woman.

I've been down myself...I posted about it below. I'll be doing ok, and then it will hit me. It was such a big part of our lives for months!!
I miss everything, even the little silly things. It does help to still be able to come and chat, and it's fun to go look at the other sites,and see
familiar names and avatars there. And hopefully, I'll be feeling motivated soon, because I have some house projects I'd like to accomplish.

Aww Lynn it is hard! I watched the Hornby Eagles and got so attached to Phoenix the eaglet....then he died just before he was suppose to
fledge....I was so sad for days. I watched him on cam when he took his last breathe ...i felt so helpless.

Annie, I'm here and there!! I have 2 screens, so I usually chat here now, and watch either the African owlets or the Australia birds. I can't seem
to get the TA owls, but there's been one owl at the Starr Ranch site. Oh, and every once in awhile I look at the hummingbird..other MODs have
been watching her build her nest.

I had an interesting day at work today! My second day working with lorikeets and I had to break up my first fight! Oh, I forgot to mention I got bitten quit a few
times breaking up the fight. These birds are ruthless to one another and have been known to kill each other!

Today I was really missing the owlets, their bobbing heads, and the way they peeked out the door. I miss the whole experience, really.
The owls, Carlos, staying up late to watch for deliveries, and yes, even the songs!! It's so quiet! It totally makes sense that so many of us would feel this way,
since we've been doing this for several months now. Watching the owls and chatting became a major part of our lives.
ok, I better stop this now...the tears are coming.

Hi Elliott! That's what I finally figured out. I did it out of not knowing what else to do at the time. I got a B.S. in Computer Science back in '83
and it is quite useless in this day and age. When I was a senior they had just figured out how to use a CRT...It was like science fiction. We had
been using teletype machines (which would wiggle and jiggle themselves down the aisle if you didn't hold them between your legs), and the good
'ol IBM card readers (which really didn't work well when walking between classes in the pouring rain (Rochester, NY) which was all the time,
except for when it was snowing mountains full.

I think I'm jut going to lurk off and on for a while. I have some other computer work to catch up on. I just posted 2 recipes on Facebook. One is for the

Yes, the eagles nest will be a good one to watch later this winter. They usually nest sometime from January to March, but have been adding to
or rebuilding their nest a little lately I believe.

Over the winter, I would recommend the NABC (North AMerican Bear Center) in Ely, MN. One of the bears they follow has probably (finally!)
selected her den for the winter. She has a yearling daughter with her. They have broadcast streaming video & audio. It won't get exciting until
January when the cub starts moving around while mom is pretty dozey.

But the "den cam" is pretty exciting and the little cubs are just adorable!

Okay, I am sitting here crying about Carrie...so I know that feeling well. I was wondering if I needed a psychiatrist to get thru this separation
period. Then decided I needed one just for asking that question! Imagine going in and saying, "Look. My owls left and I feel abandoned." They
might lock me up. I think we all feel it. We are happy they grew up so beautiful, but like all parents, are having trouble letting go. We have to tell

Good evening. I didn't get as much done as I'd planned this afternoon...what else is new? I sat on the couch to read a magazine and look at a catalog, and fell
asleep. Then I took a couple very long walks with the dogs, since the rain stopped, the sun came out, and it was really nice out. I looked at the MOD meet
picture below...what a great picture! I've met Pursja, she's so sweet (and her Sweetie too), but it would be nice to meet the others in the picture. I'm going to

I got their little honey puffs coated in cinnamon - loukamades, I believe they're called. I love baklava, but wanted a spanakopita instead, since
it's savory, not sweet. They don't have all the music and vendors that they do in the spring. It's just about the food, apparently.

We also have a lot of these tiny little screech owls here in AR. They are only about 6 inches tall. One of them batted himself unconscious on the side of our
chicken house and my husband brought him in for me to see. I used to have a picture of him but couldn't find it so here is a link to see one.

No, thank goodness. She isn't due until Nov. 20th and baby is on the small side as it is. She is just 36 weeks today. But she needs to rest and
not do much and she has a preschooler (she'll be 3 in December). So I am cooking double dinners while I am here and freezing half for later. It's
amazing that there is always something to be done with the cleaning, shopping, cooking, playing with Juni, and walking the dog. A grandma's
work is never done!

Sweet and funny story, before I REALLY go this time:
Yrs past, one of our Boxer's, Amy, had ventricle fib(all purge, no binge- in heart function)
We had a pace maker put in.
(Yes, we are those people.)
At A&M college- cheap as chips.
But the vet said because it was in her neck- she could no longer go to dog park'sfor IF dog's fight- they go for the neck.
And- she could no longer wear a collarto which I replied:
That's ok. Amy is the only female I KNOW who really does look good completely naked.

for sure. She is 13. I have a solution. But it requires me moving in for a month or so. Oh, I might add, Jennifer does her best to keep her house clean. She
bought it and has done a real good job so far. So WHY??? Is there even an answer? My mother would have grounded me for years!! Just venting.

I am fairly neat but my hubby is a "draper"...drapes stuff over this, over that...I finally came to the conclusion that he could do a lot worse

Throwing something out here for comments. When I was growing up, we each had our own room. Which we cleaned "or else". Even in to high school. My
parents were very adamant about that and as kids we took that into adulthood. I passed this on to my daughters. Only two of them actually picked up on it.
Jennifer, the youngest and whose house I am sitting on, was the one child I couldn't get to clean her room, so I adopted the: if-the-door-is-shut-I-can't-seethe-mess attitude. I worked graveyards and very long hard hours so that solution worked for me.

When she bought her own house (there is a history leading up to this, which isn't very pretty), she had worked her job for about 3 years and
was in a program with MOCA (a state run very good program here in MO) who helped her buy it. Very nice house in a very nice neighborhood.
One of the proudest moments in my life! Anyhow, she works to keep it clean. Without help from the teens, two of whom live at their dad's 3 1/2

My daughter just called and while we were talking she said "Just a minute, Ralph is at the door"...Ralph is a roadrunner (not a pet) comes into her office for a
treat, and she can hold him (see photo)...Ralph brought Rhoda, his mate and four fledglings to see her awhile back, but they weren't as brave...I visited last
year and saw her call them from across the golf course...Cooome Heeere!, and two of them came running! Sooo remarkable! They live in the wild, but come
"see" her...follow her golf cart, etc. Had to tell all of you MODS about Ralph the Roadrunner!

OK; ended up leaving the dog at the clinic for several hours to get onto lasix (his heart is enlarged-just the start of congestive heart failure), he's back home
now, really lethargic, am cooking him a bit of rice and hamburger to tempt his appetite so we can get him to eat a bit and give him his insulin shot. Good grief,
and now we give him the lasix by mouth 2x a day (he's very uncooperative--have to use a dropper or syringe). It's so sad, his days of being a playful chihuahua
are really numbered now I'm afraid.

anything, just got tired of living, I guess. She is now at Rainbow Bridge waiting with all my other angels for me to walk over with them. I hope

Helen, can the lasix med be added to or mixed in peanut butter?
FYI- many yrs, many dogs- all seem to like PB
and "nothing" falls out, like w cheese or hot dog.
Pretty strong taste- would hide the med.
Maybe see if he will take a little first.

Good afternoon Fellow MODs - I just got back from the "Northern CA MODs Get Together (if you can call two of us a meet!). I had a great time visiting with
Josie. As most of you know when meeting up with others, I found I have a lot in common with her (others). I will post pictures after they download.
FYI - I am organizing another meet on either Nov 13 or Nov 20 at 10am at the UCDavis Raptor Center. We can have a guided tour with docents if we can get
more than 6 people together. Cost = $4. per person. (date is not sent because the docents need to verify what dates they are available. I will have more info
by Wednesday.
We had a great time at the center, then went to lunch and spent 2 hours chatting away.

Yes! it was actually one of my customers in the afternoon, having had to run next door in the morning to help my neighbour who's wife had
collapsed (and sadly died by the time I got there despite our efforts to revive her), I got back home to see Kelly pass away and be consumed,
eventually got to work and had to fish a dead mouse out my first customers pool, moved on to my next customer and inadvertently hedge
trimmed a wasp nest and was stung multiple times on my neck - at which point I burst into tears and my customer sat me down and made me a
'nice cup of tea' ..... it will not go down as one of my better days

My hubby collects all sorts of paper....his name on eBay is paperperson. And he works for a newspaper so he is really into paper!
Barbara, just all sorts of postcards, some from recent years, others from wartime (WW 2). The oldest ones came from a relative who was in the
Navy during the war. Some of those are from the Holy Land.
I haven't looked at them in awhile. I'll do that later if you'd like, and be able to tell you more.

the process of building her nest and will lay eggs in it when she finishes. A lot of folks from this chat room are watching the site. It is amazing to

that came up when the quilt presentation was done during the picnic in CA for the quilters here to make quilt blocks to put together for Carlos &
Donna. I would still be glad to make a block. But, the thought occurred to me that, even though it would be a nice gesture, Carlos & Donna
have SO much stuff that has been presented to them over past months and probably don't need another quilt. I think what I would like to do is
make a youth or baby quilt or two with owl theme fabrics and donate them to the Linus Project or other charitable cause. I would somehow like
to be able to contact Carlos and Donna to leet them know the quilts were done and donated as a thanks to them. Your thoughts ???

And are you on the quilt board? A lot of the members have done Linus and Downy. It's a Site to Behold! 12-13 thousand members, and even

the picture is worth a thousand words. Having lost two sisters, ultimately as a result of their breast cancer, and knowing that many here are breast cancer

Just back for a few. Shortly after I signed on earlier I lost all access to my computer. DH had called Dell about a problem he was having with the laptop.
Apparently something was corrupted, so I had to sign on to their "remote" access and the technician took control of both computers and did something to clear
both computers of any problems. It took over an hour for the technician to accomplish whatever it was and he just called back and put us through some steps
. Although I have read stories about bad things happening when
to see if everything was working OK. That's scary, knowing that someone can do that
people do that, we have had wonderful service, response and feel safe with the Dell Company.

Hi Lynda! Sorry to hear about your computer problems. I don't like giving remote access either. I think they can only check the line to your house
(they can see the router or bridge) but nothing beyond that without your consent. Just take good notes: the guy's name, time you called, etc so
if something happens you know who it was you allowed on your network.
There are also ways to protect (lock other people out to keep them from snooping) your files when you allow remote sharing. If I let you on my
computer you would only be able to see whatever I put in my public folder that is there to allow sharing only what you want to share.

While I stood there by the side of the road, the strangest thing happened. A huge CAR came along carrying all the rest of the residents of MODVILLE. The
driver had on a green helmet and looked absolutely feline! She shouted she was taking all to find the ROYAL couple who had left the castle. THE END to a silly

That the problem, I've been watching those 2 all morning...haven't even made it to the African Spotted Owls yet or the African watering

In the distance I saw a large bluff and sitting on the top, a magnificent Lion named George who kept his right paw warm in an owl muff so his trigger finger would

So cute. I just found that hummingbird camera earlier today and posted a link to it. I only got a fleeting glimce. The bird showed up for about 10

The forest was quite spooky and I found myself imagining I heard a Tiger named Mo. Then I saw a gorgeous white horse and many beautiful cats and dogs. As
night gave way to the Dawn, I found myself in a field of flowers where many tiny Phoebes flitted from one blossom to the next. There was a golden haired
young Irish maiden named Colleen juggling balls, laughing and talking to her friends, Roni, whose lawyerly advice she took from time to time, Ingrid with an arm
full of red and yellow tulips, Baxter, Cinda, and Kristi! I then realized it wasn't just a field but part of a farm and purdy Becky was there waving to Jean going
down the street in her Model T.

There was a peaceful silence from the castle where for so long the same music had heard endlessly. Now there was quiet and young Prince Austin was now
able to devote himself to his studies. I looked about me and admired the soft, Feathery, Amber Lights which cast a lovely glow on the streets of MOD. As with
the way of dreams I next found myself in a lovely woods \which seemed filled with strange and beautiful creatures. There in the trees large eyes watched me.
They seemed so very familiar! I saw two young owls sitting on a branch and as crazy as this soundsthe younger begged for coffee and donuts from the older

Last night in dreams I walked the streets of Mod in the land of Pursja. In the beginning of the dream, I had just emerged from a very long climb up stairs from a
deep basement where many treasures lay and where chords of "Sounds of Silence" still echoed. At the street level I saw that I was very near the castle of King
Carlos and Queen Donna. I sat on a nearby bench to catch my breath and read a new spaper. "The Daily Hork" announced that the King and Queen had just left
for an extended visit to a beautiful island country!

Good Morning. Debating on whether to grocery shop today. I hate to grocery shop on Saturdays. Too busy!!! My hubby came home on Thursday afternoon,
a day early, without notice. Got me off my schedule for the end of the week. He loves college football and our team isn't on a TV station we get. So we are
going to a sports bar to watch the game this afternoon. We have Dish Network and they have stopped carrying the FOX channels, otherwise we would get the
game. We pay extra for those channels and don't get them now. I wish they would get this mess straightened out.
Still missing the owls & Carlos. Wish we would get some little update. Maybe next week, Carlos will post something. Have a good day!!!

Good morning. We never go shopping on Saturday, hate it too! We go on weekdays, even if it's late at night. That way, there aren't many
people there, and we get through the checkouts faster.

Here are my recipes for today. My Mom's Easy Fudge, and my Aunt Dorothy's Shortbread...
Fudge
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 14oz can Eagle sweetened milk
1/2 cup nuts, optional
Dash of salt
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Mix chips, milk, and salt in sauce pan.
Melt over med-low heat
Take off heat and add vanilla
I put this in foil lined 8X8 pans
Let cool, and cut

Scottish Shortbread
1 pound butter, softened
1 cup sugar
5 cups flour
Cream butter and sugar
Add 1 cup of flour at a time
Press firmly in jelly roll pan
Bake at 350 for 30 - 35 minutes
Cut as soon as it comes out of oven

It will take medical researchers years to study it, run double blind studies, discuss it at world conferences, publish theories and try to duplicate it
in laboratory mice - but, I'l bet they will never come up with a cure !!!
BTW, an interesting bit of news (I think on CBS nightly news) this
week about studies being done on laboratory mice for treatment of depression. When the short blurb was over my DH and I both looked at each
other and said at nearly the same time, "How in the world do they know that the mice are depressed ? "

Good morning MODs, just warming up my second cup of coffee, waiting for pain meds to kick in. I have already checked the crawl space (thanks Roni for that
imagery) and glad to see the Seattle Mods are having a great time. Plans today include a quick run out to shop (my sanity trip) and we have a play tonight at
the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia this evening. I should do some more baking today as I have a few packages to send out Monday before we leave; I
send pound cakes as birthday presents to my brothers, SIL's, BIL, their significant others and all the nieces and nephews. Also have to get a package ready
with Christmas presents to ship to Poland, they take six weeks to get there. Better get on my "horse" and start moving. Have a great day and I lurk when I

Good morning Roni, love your new name for the basement; the Crawl Space. I think we all started at this site to see the wonder of nature up
close and personal; and what we found was the company. This became such a social group, even before people thought of meeting in person.
The social aspect of this chat site ruffled some feathers with the "purists" who only came to see owls, research everything that was available
and "teach" the social group. As far as a psychiatrist, if they weren't a MOD, it would cost a fortune to explain why this works.

Good morning MODs; had to take dog to vet this morning; he coughed and snuffled all night, didn't get much sleep. He has congestive heart failure, early
stages, we found out about it two weeks ago. Know that we will have to let him go soon, and we are both devastated, although we went through it with our
last dog, a Lhasa. Right now he is at the vets getting Lasix, ready to come home at 2 CDT. Did you all realize Daylight Saving ends Nov 7th? Oh well, excuse
the glum post. Just felt like sharing. Glad everyone is having a good day.

Good morning all, I survived my lithotripsy yesterday and am feeling a bit sore today but glad it is over. I did check into the chat last night but not from the
computer so I didn't post. Am trying to keep my record intact of not missing a day on here since I first started last March. So glad to see so many familiar avatars
are still here too.
It is a misty and cool day here today so a good one to stay in the house for my recovery, even had my first fire in the wood stove last night and it smelled so
good.

I'm happy to have that extra hour of daylight, after we change the clocks it will be dark and dreary by late afternoon. Also, it gives the kids that
extra hour or light to trick and treat.

I have some art work in mind...some silly, some serious, now I can go to work on it...except life and obligations seem to be piling up
The two sisters I am tutoring in sacraments, one, Hitzuary, now needs tutoring in 4th grade, composition, math and social studies...
Teachers had me come with her mother to conference...now I will be going to Georgetown to work with her on Wed. afternoons...
Her parents had written her off as not being as smart as the younger sister..the problem was she is fluent in Spanish and struggled in 1st, 2nd, and third grades
translating concepts in her mind from Spanish to English and miss understood work...parents just thought she was not
smart to enough to be concerned about...
Really heartbreaking...now I am in the restoration buisness!

Im realy not sure, I havent been watching that long, maby thats why they put the net up!!
On the FB page, they wrote about the owlet hopping out because of mites. They had him checked out, and returned him to the nest.
