lifetime figures. Sometimes
the term is over used. Not
when it comes to Muhammad Ali. He was born Cassius Marcellus Clay on Jan. 17, 1942 in Louisville

His boxing career began in a gym
in Louisville, Kentucky. As a teen
someone stole his bike and he
threatened to kill them. A police officer told him he should learn how to
learn how to fight first. That led him
up the amateur ranks and into a gold
medal at the 1960 Olympic games in
Rome.
At the age of 22 he became the
youngest heavyweight champion
in history. The new champion soon
after renounced Cassius Clay as his
“slave name” and said he would be
known from then on as Muhammad
Ali.

the age of 74. The three-time World
Heavyweight Champion was known

After turning pro Ali knocked out
Sonny Liston then successfully defended his title six times, including a
rematch with Liston. Then, in 1967,
at the height of the Vietnam War,
Ali was drafted to serve in the U.S.
Army.
He’d said previously that the war
was not compatible with his faith,
and that he had “no quarrel” with
America’s enemy, the Vietcong. He
refused to serve.
“My conscience won’t let me go
shoot my brother, or some darker
people, some poor, hungry people
in the mud, for big powerful America,
and shoot them for what?” Ali said
in an interview. “They never called
me nigger. They never lynched me.
They didn’t put no dogs on me.” After being tied up in court for several
years and unable to get a boxing license-he was given one by the state
of Georgia. That allowed him to fight
a hard-nosed Jerry Quarry, whom he
defeated.

If you are not feeling well and you
have some pain in our body, you
can help it to heal. Take care of
the emotions around the illness
that you have, and pay attention to
them. Let go of any negative emotions related with the suffering you
are experiencing. Accept that this
is the situation you are living and
that you have the power to heal
yourself. Don’t blame others, or
the circumstances that put you in
this situation as it is the past. Forgive yourself and awake your inner
healing power.
Allow the Love and the healing energy to penetrate your body. Allow
this energy to flow. Unblock yourself and feel the energy of peace,
understanding, acceptance, and
Love for yourself. Allow it to reach
every cell and tissue of your body.
Focus on the area of your body
that needs healing. Visualize and
feel this area of your body healing,
see it completely healed. Be grateful for the healing you are receiving, accept it, and let go of the fear,
pain, anger and discomfort.
Another way to be active in the
healing process is to establish a
conversation, during meditation,
with any of the symptoms that you
are experiencing. This may help
you figure out what the pain or discomfort in a specific area of your
body is trying to tell you. There is
a reason why it is present. If you
make an effort to understand the
reason, you can heal faster by
searching a solution to what is
causing it.
Help your body to be stronger and
healthier. Take care of it. You are
made of Love’s energy and you
can send it to your body to make
yourself feel better, to let go of the
tensions, aches and pains, and
to move forward. You can create
energy of life, happiness and joy.
This will help your body to recover
and to feel better. Be at peace with
yourself. Love is the most powerful
healing energy. You can use your
own Love to heal yourself.
Chavez died at a hospital in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by
many of her children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren, according to a family statement released
through the United Farm Workers,
the union her husband founded. No
cause of death was given.
Born in the town of Brawley in the
California desert near the Mexico
border, she met Cesar Chavez in the
mid-1940s and married him in 1948,
after he left the Navy.
In the early 1960s, the couple left a
comfortable middle-class existence
in East Los Angeles to organize
farm workers in California’s Central
Valley. There, Chavez, along with
Dolores Huerta, founded the National Farm Workers Association,
which later became the UFW. His
work would make him a deeply revered figure for Mexican-Americans
and activists.
Cesar Chavez died in Arizona in
1993.

The couple had eight children, and
Helen Chavez had to care for them
alone for long stretches while he was
traveling, his speaking and organizing skills in great demand. They
lived in Delano, California, where
she often did farm field work herself
while he was gone, sometimes with
her children working alongside her.
She also played a quiet but influential role within the union, according
to her family.
“Her consistent humility, selflessness, quiet heroism and fiery perseverance were at the heart of the
movement she helped build,” the
family statement said.
Helen Chavez generally kept a low
profile and did not speak often in
public or in the media. But she made
public appearances to honor her
husband and his cause.
Last year she appeared at her husband’s graveside and accepted a
folded flag as he was bestowed with
military honors he had not been given at the time of his death.

have ended their engagement.

SASEBO, Japan – A 2010 Monrovia
High School graduate and Monrovia, California native is serving in Japan in the U.S. Navy aboard one of
two forward deployed dock landing
ships, USS Germantown.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Diana Umana is a boatswain’s mate aboard the
Whidbey Island-class dock landing
ship operating out of Sasebo, Japan.
A Navy boatswain’s mate is responsible for serving as the docking lead,
driving the ship, and operating the
crane to lift weapons, vehicles, and
gear.
“I like that we’re always busy aboard
the ship,” said Umana. “My favorite
aspect is doing my part to ensure
the ship is fully supplied.”
With more than 50 percent of the
world’s shipping tonnage and a
third of the world’s crude oil passing through the region, the United
States has historic and enduring in-
terests in this part of the world. The
Navy’s presence in Sasebo is part of
that long-standing commitment.
Commissioned in 1986, Germantown is the second Whidbey Islandclass dock landing ship. This is the
second Navy ship named after the
Revolutionary War Battle of Germantown.
With a crew of more than 900 sailors
and Marines, Germantown is 609
feet long and weighs approximately
16,000 tons. Designed specifically
to operate landing craft air cushion
small craft vessels, Whidbey Islandclass dock landing ships have the
largest capacity for these landing
craft out of any U.S. Navy amphibious ship.
“Today’s sailors never cease to
amaze me with the energy and effort they give, particularly in the
fast-paced forward deployed Navy,”
said Cmdr. Severn B. Stevens III,
Commanding Officer of USS Germantown. “Their endless dedication
to excellence, while at work and on
liberty, makes me proud to be in

command of Germantown and this
crew.”
Germantown sailors work rigorous
hours filled with drills and training to
assure that the ship remains mission
ready. Their efforts were recently
validated by earning the 2015 Battle
Effectiveness Award with a clean
sweep of all five Command Excellence Awards.
“Being forward deployed means that
we’re first to respond to humanitarian events like we did helping victims
of the tsunami in the Phillipines,”
said Umana.
Navy officials explain that sea duty
is inherently arduous and challenging but it builds strong fellowship
and esprit de corps among members
of the crew. The crew is highly motivated and quickly adapt to changing
conditions. It is a busy life of specialized work, watches, and drills.
“Serving in the Navy has meant
traveling around the world, seeing
new cultures, and learning along the
way,” added Umana.

In his second fight after the lay-off Ali
would take on Frazier in a sold-out
Madison Square Garden, he lost to
Frazier in an epic 15-rounder touted
as “The Fight of The Century.” It was
Ali’s first defeat as a pro.
That fight began one of boxing’s and
sport’s greatest rivalries. Ali and Frazier fought again in 1974, after Frazier had lost his crown. This time, Ali
won in a unanimous decision, making him the lead challenger for the
heavyweight title.
He then went to Zaire to take on
Foreman in a fight in dubbed “The
Rumble in the Jungle,” a spectacularly hyped bout for which Ali moved
to Africa for the summer, followed by
crowds of chanting locals wherever

historic performance in the ring, employing a new strategy he called the
“rope-a-dope,” allowing the favored
Foreman to beat up on him until he
tired. Ali then went on the attack,
knocking out Foreman in the eighth
round. The maneuver has been copied by many other champions since.
The third fight in the Ali-Frazier trilogy
followed in 1975, the “Thrilla in Manila” that is now regarded as one of
the best boxing matches of all time.
Ali won in a technical knockout in the
15th round.
Ali successfully defended his title until 1978, when he was beaten by a
young Leon Spinks, and then quickly
took the title back in a rematch a few
month later in New Orleans.
He retired in 1979, when he was
37, but, seeking to he , returned in
1980 for a title match against Larry
Holmes, it was one worse losses as
he took a beating for the entire fight.
Ali lost again, to Trevor Berbick, the
following year. During a post fight
interview Ali said “I shall return” then
paused and stated “to Los Angeles.”
He was finally retired for good.
Even as his health declined, Ali did
not shy from politics or controversy,
releasing a statement in this past December criticizing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s
proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States. “We as Muslims have to stand up to those who

each public appearance he seemed
more feeble, a stark contrast to his
outsized aura. He continued to be
one of the most recognizable people
in the world.
Some years ago I attended an event
hosted by the great sports columnist
Brad Pye Jr on Central Ave in Los
Angeles. There were about 500 people present. Ali arrived as a speaker.
His eyes and mine locked as he
worked his way across the room
in my direction-shaking hands and
signing autographs. Unknown at the
time he was headed straight to me.
We finally stood face to face and
I shook his hand. “How you doing
champ”, I said nervously. He took a
moment and his eyes opened widely
then replied “You kinda look like Joe
