GENERATIONS
A CENTURY OF COMMITMENT
135-Year Family Tradition
In the early days, it was as simple as repairing wagons,
shoeing horses and performing simple blacksmithing tasks
in and around the small community of Wamego, Kansas.
As times evolved, so did machines and so did we. But one
thing remained the same - our family tradition of providing
the highest-quality, best-engineered solutions to meet our
customers’ needs.
Flash back...to the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. Depression, World
War, Elvis. Our family began building dozer blades for early
track-type tractor machines. During those early years, we
supplied hundreds of blades to the Korean War that were used
for building roads and landing strips. Our dozer blades helped
pave the way for the new interstate highway system project
in the 1950’s. By the 1960’s and 1970’s, we began building
oversized U-Blades for applications such as coal-fired power
plants and mined land reclamation.

As time went on, so did we. In March 1997, we purchased
Dymax and began rebuilding the company based on our
experience throughout the 20th century. Today, a new
generation is born.

In 2002, Dymax built its second-generation Coal U-Blade. We
went back to our roots. Since that time, we’ve produced many
custom dozer blades for use around the world.
In 2004, we began building large Rock Buckets for large
loaders and worked with a major machine manufacturer
providing rock, coal buckets and dozer blades.
In 2010 and 2011, we developed the pin handling systems
with a world mining company to provide a safer environment
for its employees, and we introduced ROK·GÄARD™ Chromium
Carbide wear products.

MACHINES
In 2001, Dymax developed the conveyor belt shear for cutting
old steel corded belting at a Texas mine site. The shear
featured a built-in feed roller that enabled operators to cut
the belt in 20 seconds compared to the 15 to 20 minutes it
took them when using hand saws weighing a cumbersome 80
pounds.

You can make your investment last longer by using Dymax
ROK·GÄARD™ Chromium Carbide Armor. Dymax ROK·GÄARD™ is
available in pre-fabricated plate assemblies.
Plates can be cut at your job site and then bent to match your liner needs.
(Access to a 500T press brake will accomplish this using templates created
on site.) Use only the recommended weld wire to adhere the plates to
your blade, bucket or truck liner. Weld it and forget it. ROK·GÄARD™ is

HEAVY DUTY U-BLADES FOR TRACK DOZERS
Designed for severe-duty applications with AR400, AR500
or ROK·GÄARD™ wear plates. Features top rack and cylinder
guards. Wing angles 28° to 30° to increase penetration
capability, and teardrop end bits allow quicker digging to fill
the blade.

Hardness is Not the Same as Wear Resistance.
Dymax ROK·GÄARD™ Chromium Carbide Armor is the
proprietary name for the process used by Dymax to
provide the toughest chromium carbide overlay plate for
critical abrasion resistance in severe applications. Not
all chromium carbide overlay plate is the same. Dymax
ROK·GÄARD™ Chromium Carbide Armor is manufactured
to Dymax specifications. Dymax engineers utilize their
knowledge and decades of experience to make sure that
each customer’s ROK·GÄARD™ wear plates match the
individual customer applications.
Popular hardness measures, such as Brinel and Rockwell,
measure the macro hardness of a material. An alloy
steel hardness measure becomes the combined average
of each metallurgical component in the alloy. Wear
resistance is best measured by a wear test such as ASTM
G65.
Not all wear materials are equal. Let Dymax help you
decide what is right for you.
Is your application one with severe abrasion but sticky
material? Or are you working in clay and other wet
conditions but face mild wear conditions? Dymax
engineers examine these kinds of elements before
determining the best wear material for your job. Some
situations call for Hardox 400 or Hardox 500. More
severe applications require Dymax ROK·GÄARD™
Chromium Carbide Armor. And there are other uses
where abrasion is absent and stainless steel liners are the
path to improved productivity.
Low stress and/or scratching abrasion is the most
predominant test in the mining industry. The ASTM G65
test is a dry sand rubber wheel test. It rates materials in
terms of weight loss under a controlled set of laboratory
conditions. Obviously, other factors in the mine may
influence ultimate wear, such as impacts, corrosion and
other elements. Dymax engineers are ready to help
you determine what the best wear protection is for your
application.

SPECIALTY COUPLER SYSTEMS - GET ONE IF YOU NEED IT
Dymax engineers are always hard at work developing
new technologies and helping customers do jobs more
easily, more safely and more economically. In 2011,
Dymax developed the all-new 180° rotational coupler
system that delivers 90° hydraulic rotation to the left
and right.
An application at a copper facility in Pakistan required
a special coupler that would allow the customer to
dump material to the side using a conventional wheel
loader. The customer was needing to dump material to
the side from its specialty boom/fork due to tight space
restraints. Dymax was contacted and in 2011 delivered
to Pakistan the 180° rotational coupler system. This
specific model fit an existing loader and euro-coupler
and then was fitted with a manual locking euro-coupler
on the front side.

SUCCESS STORY
CONVEYOR BELT SHEARING SYSTEMS FOR LOADERS, EXCAVATORS
In 2001, a coal mine in Texas needed a solution to get
its workers out of harm’s way. The coal mine had miles
and miles of old steel-corded rubber belting and needed
a quick, effective solution for cutting it down to size.
Prior to engaging with the Dymax custom products
group, the workers used heavy, 80-lb saws to cut the
belt. Not only was this dangerous, it was also highly time
consuming, taking 20 minutes at times to make a single
cut. Inhalation of rubber and smoke also posed health
and safety risks.
Dymax was approached to develop a belt shear that
worked with a conventional loader, excavator or
telehandler. The result was excellent. A hydraulicpower-fed roller system engaged the belt and pulled
it into the shearing mechanism. Indexable demolition
shearing knives sliced through the 1.5-2-meter wide
belts in under 60 seconds. The mine was finally able to
cut belt into smaller pieces and sell the pieces to local
feedlots and ranchers, where it was used for walkway
and bedding material.

Safety is always a top priority in every mine. Handling cumbersome and heavy machinery
pins by hand presents safety and ergonomic challenges.
Dymax pin handling work tools (Pin Handler and Pin Grapple) were developed for a large
mining company in Australia’s Hunter Valley region. Maintenance workers used to change
out drag line clevis pins and track pins by hand. Not only was it a back-breaking job, it posed
many safety risks.
DymaxMining entered the picture with the development of its pin handling grapple and pin
inserter. Now one operator with a mini-excavator can change pins in much less time than
when done manually.
