Four brick walls, a ceiling, a floor, and one scary t e a c h e r a t t h e f r o n t of t h e r o o m . As t i m e passes, t h e y realize e v e r y t h i n g in t h e school, f r o m rooms t o people, has i t ' s o w n unique characteristics. 1 I W h e n sophomores become established in t h e school, t h e y no longer r u n blindly t h r o u g h t h e hall. Hopefully t h e y k n o w w h e r e t h e i r classes a r e . They no longer r u n i n t o Seniors, unless he is 6 ' 2 " , single, handsome, a n d y o u need a d a t e f o r t o m o r r o w nights dance. 1 jl 1 WmmmEmk Upon becoming a J u n i o r , t h e pace of school life speeds up. T h e r e a r e points t o be considered, plans t o be made a n d activities t o be scheduled. These f a c t s are all based on t h e capability of k n o w i n g a n d u n d e r s t a n d i n g t h e i r school. By t h e t i m e you are a Senior, you look upon t h e school as an open book. I t ' s t h e r e , you j u s t d o n ' t look a t i t ! Seniors k n o w exactly h o w many days are in a school year, w h e r e t o sit a t pep rally, w h i c h t e a c h e r s you can hassle, a n d h o w t o g e t a w i t h t h e foxy little underclass lady w h o b u m p e d i n t o you yesterday. Plans you made t h e previous years are carried o u t and now more i m p o r t a n t ones are composed. The t i m e , t h e place, a n d t h e people are here, it's only a m a t t e r of g e t t i n g t o know t h e m a n d g e t t i n g t o k n o w yourself. You'll always find Beatrice with a smile on her face. Just booking the halls. What would we do if we didn't have halls? We wouldn't be carrying books around in them, thats for sure! Mrs. Hohman and Mrs. Hanselman take few minutes to chit-chat before school begins. W h a t is t h e i m p o r t a n c e of halls? W i t h o u t halls t h e r e w o u l d n ' t be any way t o get t o y o u r classes! W i t h o u t halls t h e r e w o u l d n ' t be any place t o get y o u r nose smashed in by t h e u n c o n t r o l l a b l e mobs of people. So f a r i t sounds like halls give us a l o t of hassle. W i t h o u t halls, t h e school w o u l d be a p r e t t y d r a b place. The average s t u d e n t spends a p p r o x i m a t e l y t w o and one half hours in t h e hall. S t r a n g e t h i n g s o f t e n t a k e place t h e r e like stacking lockers. A f a v o r i t e pastime of f r i e n d s . An occasional false fire a l a r m is a l m o s t inevitable. One of t h e m o s t casual, c o m f o r t a b l e places in t h e school is our halls. Here is w h e r e tension escapes, conversation extends, a n d f r i e n d s h i p g r o w s . Have you got yours? At the concession stand, students gather to buy yearbooks. W H E N IT RAINS, IT POURS Inspite of t h e rain, t h e cold and t h e f a c t t h a t t h e N o r t h J u d s o n Bluejays beat us 39 t o 10, H o m e c o m i n g was great. A f t e r all, t h e y always say, it's t h e t h o u g h t t h a t counts. The t i m e and p r e p a r a t i o n spent on Homecoming was o u t s t a n d i n g . M a n y classes and clubs t o o k p a r t in t h e annual Homecoming Parade. Looking a t all of t h i s f r o m a n o t h e r dimension you could say we w e r e a l l a r o u n d winners, even t h o u g h we lost t h e game and even t h o u g h i t r a i n e d we came up on t o p . . . we always do . . . Rain or shine, w i n or lose. Friendships g r o w and prosper t h r o u g h every little t h i n g we do, regardless if we w i n or lose. THE TWINS The Hartmans— Becky and Bob. Have you really noticed h o w many t w i n s , we do have here a t C.C.H.S.? Each year we seem t o gain a t least one new set of t w i n s . As you could t e l l n o t all t h e t w i n s a t C.C.H.S. are identical but with J i m and John Allyn, you've g o t t h e p r o b l e m of telling who's w h o , you have t o get t h e m t o smile t o tell w h i c h one is J o h n a n d w h i c h one is Jim. J u s t as we are able t o recognize t h e old sets of t w i n s , o u r p r o b l e m s s t a r t over again, w i t h a n o t h e r set. The Readys—Leanna and Glenna. The Overmyers—Brian and Brett. WHERE WERE YOU THE PLAYS GO ON Ok, we'll have practice f r o m seven t o nine o'clock d u r i n g t h e week. Practice f o r w h a t ? Basketball? No, practice w a s f o r t h e big spring p r o d u c t i o n " H e l l o Dolly". T r y outs f o r t h e play w e r e held in J a n u a r y a n d practices s t a r t e d in early F e b r u a r y w i t h practices d u r i n g S p r i n g b r e a k . So you k n o w h o w m u c h t i m e was p u t i n t o t h e play. Besides a c t i n g o r singing in t h e play, each cast m e m b e r was responsible f o r m a k i n g his o r her o w n costume, a n d also each m e m b e r served on a c o m m i t t e e helping w i t h props, scenery or any o t h e r j o b needed done. W i t h nervousness hs\ng in t h e air t h e c u r t a i n w e n t up a n d t h e play was off. All o f t h e t i m e a n d e f f o r t paid off w h e n t h e audience gave a g r e a t applause for them. A f t e r a n o t h e r successful n i g h t of p r o d u c t i o n a n a i r o f sadness swept t h e cast m e m b e r s a n d all w h o w e r e involved w i t h t h e play because t h e y knew t h a t i t w a s all over f o r a n o t h e r year. I t was a fine and successful play a p p r e c i a t e d by all. We wish t h e best o f luck t o o u r C.C.H.S. a c t o r s a n d actresses in t h e near f u t u r e . Do you think they'll notice me? 16 AND ON AND ON AND ON AND TODAY'S Well it's like t h i s / ' answers Miss Indiana. vv LEADERS Whispers of how p r e t t y she was could be h e a r d a t all or m o s t tables d u r i n g l u n c h . W h o was everyone t a l k i n g a b o u t ? Why, Miss I n d i a n a , B a r b a r a M o u g i n , o u r c e l e b r i t y of t h e day and probably of t h e year. Yes, Miss I n d i a n a was t h e guest speaker a t t h e t h i r d annual leadership c o n f e r e n c e here a t C.C.H.S. She expressed her views on a leader a n d her experiences of being Miss Indiana. I t was q u i t e a day! I ' m sure everyone f o u n d t h e c o n f e r e n c e r e w a r d i n g , especially w i t h Miss Indiana there. Listening is the name of the game for these girls. A leader is . . ./' explains Miss Indiana. XX 18 Being a t school every m o r n i n g a t seven o'clock t o listen t o p o u n d i n g d r u m s , blaring t r u m p e t s , a n d M r . Byfield's r o a r i n g voice was no easy task f o r t h e band m e m b e r s , p a r e n t s , a n d even M r . B. You ask " W h y so e a r l y ? " There's a very simple answer, t h e band t r i p ! Everybody spent many long hours p e r f e c t i n g t h e band. The band a n d cavalette m e m b e r s w i t h t h e help o f t h e music boosters sold f r u i t cakes and held a fish f r y t o earn money f o r t h e i r t r i p t o Nashville. Preparing f o r an amusing breakfast. As M a y 2 1 s t came n e a r e r and n e a r e r nervousness a n d e x c i t e m e n t rose here a t C.C.H.S. Everywhere y o u w a l k e d you could hear t a l k of t h e b a n d trip. P e r f o r m a n c e day had finally come. Nervousness overcame exhaustion f r o m t o o little sleep. W i t h t h e i r o w n little f a n club t h e cavalettes a n d sponsors a n d band p u t on an excellent show. The band n o t only h a d t h e i r own little f a n club r i g h t t h e r e b u t everyone h o m e a t C.C.H.S. was t h i n k i n g of t h e m t o o . Everyone is very p r o u d o f o u r band a n d wishes t h e m luck in t h e f u t u r e . The F u t u r e E d u c a t o r s of A m e r i c a are very active. They p a r t i c i p a t e d in e d u c a t i o n a l field t r i p s a n d The s t u d e n t Council has been very active t h i s year. They s t a r t e d off t h e school year by having t h e first dance. I n a d d i t i o n t o t h a t , t h e y w e r e in charge of t h e A n n u a l Leadership Conference, H o m e c o m i n g Parade, and King and Queen candidates. They usually sponsor t h e C h r i s t m a s d e c o r a t i n g contest, b u t i t was cancelled t h i s year because of snow. conferences t h r o u g h o u t I n d i a n a . They have also s t r e n g t h e n e d their welcoming committee for new s t u d e n t s a t CCHS. Each s t u d e n t receives a "Caval K i t " or a welcome package, and a personal escort by a council m e m b e r . I n s t e a d of a scrapbook t h i s year, t h e y are planning a w i n d o w display on everything they've done. Overall, t h e y have proved t o be a very involved g r o u p . The Office E d u c a t o r s will soon be r u n n i n g t h e offices of A m e r i c a . Keep it up, people! The b a n d council is t h e backbone of our b a n d . W h e n s o m e t h i n g i m p o r t a n t comes up, these kids are t h e first t o know! The F u t u r e H o m e m a k e r s of A m e r i c a learn how t o r u n and care f o r homes. W e ' r e sure t h e i r skills will These people head up t h e Choraliers. They are t h e musical decision m a k e r s ! be g r e a t l y a p p r e c i a t e d in f u t u r e years! 25 FROM ATHLETES TO SPIRIT RAISERS The Varsity Club, f o r m a l l y k n o w n as t h e L e t t e r m e n Club, is sponsored by Doc H e a t h . As usual t h e g r o u p is responsible f o r t h e i r annual chili supper a n d M e e t The Team Night. The Sunshine Society is a very busy club made up of b r i g h t and c h e e r f u l m e m b e r s . Their goal is t o spread happiness and sunshine t h r o u g h o u t t h e c o m m u n i t y . The club also picks ideal ladies and has various conventions. Each year t h e club raises money t o be sent t o t h e Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. To be able t o become a m e m b e r of t h e V a r s i t y Club t h e m e m b e r s had t o earn a l e t t e r by p a r t i c i p a t i n g in a varsity sport. And t o earn a j a c k e t t h e y had t o earn a t least five l e t t e r s in a varsity sport. The Pep Block is responsible f o r m o s t of t h e screams and yells we hear a t t h e s p o r t events. Being one of t h e largest clubs, its m e m b e r s give o u r t e a m s a l o t of s u p p o r t and e n c o u r a g e m e n t w h e t h e r it's a w i n or loss. The Pep Block is sponsored by M r . Pinder. 26 The Health Careers Club is busy w i t h field t r i p s and p r o m o t i n g good h e a l t h . This year several field t r i p s w e r e t a k e n by t h e club, such as a t r i p t o L o g a n s p o r t M e n t a l Hospital. The Science Club p a r t i c i p a t e d in t h e f o o t b a l l h o m e c o m i n g parade, t h e w i n d o w p a i n t i n g c o n t e s t and o t h e r activities. Also t h i s club is responsible f o r various service p r o j e c t s such as p l a n t i n g t r e e s and flowers on our school lawn. 27 WE BELIEVE IN MUSIC WE BELIEVE IN MUSIC m Culver's c h a p t e r o f N a t i o n a l Honor Society consists o f t w e n t y - e i g h t m e m b e r s . To be a m e m b e r you m u s t be a j u n i o r or a senior w i t h high academic s t a n d a r d s . The f a c u l t y and t h e old m e m b e r s vote you in. The NHS has several bake sales t o raise money f o r t h e club t h r o u g h o u t t h e year. 4 m * 1 * 1 m^gfw' 1 \ 1 3i y Mm ttiP These are t h e French Club m e m b e r s . They p a r t i c i p a t e d in t h e h o m e c o m i n g parade and in t h e w i n d o w p a i n t i n g c o n t e s t . Last spring t h e y w e n t and ate a t a French r e s t a u r a n t . They p a r t i c i p a t e in many school activities. The m e m b e r s help t h e Graphics d e p a r t m e n t in p r i n t i n g t h e school paper. Graphics is one o f t h e many fields o f I n d u s t r i a l Arts. The I n t e r n a t i o n a l Thespian Society, T r o u p 1 7 0 4 sponsors t h e m a j o r t h e a t r i c a l p r o d u c t i o n s a t Culver High School. They also provide a C h r i s t m a s Convocation and e n t e r t a i n m e n t f o r t h e Senior Citizens. The 1 9 7 8 Musical, " F i d d l e r on t h e R o o f is hoped t o be as big a success as " H e l l o D o l l y " . In May of each year, t h e Thespians hold a b a n q u e t t o h o n o r those w h o have excelled in t h e D r a m a t i c A r t s t h r o u g h o u t t h e year. The Spanish Club is an active o r g a n i z a t i o n . They p a r t i c i p a t e d in t h e h o m e c o m i n g parade and w i n d o w p a i n t i n g c o n t e s t f o r t h e first game. They w e n t d o w n t o t h e Jr. Hi. t o help t h e m i g r a n t c h i l d r e n t o learn English. M r . B u t t o n is t h e new sponsor. FFA Class Officers The FFA is a g r o u p of guys a n d girls w h o like f a r m i n g , a n d are considering t h a t as a f u t u r e occupation. D u r i n g t h e school ° year, t h e FFA co-sponsors t h e S w e e t h e a r t Dance, a n d t h e y are involved in many of t h e activities t h a t t h e school sponsors. Soph. " T h o u g h c h e e r i n g isn't t h e only t h i n g t h a t t h e cheerleaders do, it's one of t h e i r main j o b s . The Cavalettes n o t only p e r f o r m a t games, t h e y also add an e x t r a s o m e t h i n g t o t h e band in t h e s u m m e r . The cheerleaders w o r k h a r d a t m a k i n g posters, selling balloons a t f o o t b a l l games, sponsoring t h e w i n d o w p a i n t i n g , as well as keeping t h e f a n s spirited.
