The reinforcement mesh was based on a icosahedron, that inspired buckminster fuller 20 years later for his geodesic domes. UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS VIENNA © Sigrid Brell-Cokcan VIENNA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY Wooden Formwork for a Concrete Shell structural engineer: Heinz Isler Church of Casis GR structural engineer: Heinz Isler UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS VIENNA © Sigrid Brell-Cokcan VIENNA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY thin concrete shells seem to have disappeared over the last decades Reasons are: - labour intensive and costly process of construction of the Wooden formwork - costly pre-bending of the reinforcement steel - increasing ease in analysing complex skeletal spatial structures offered by advances in computer technology -> concrete shells are less competitive than they were a few decades ago. UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS VIENNA © Sigrid Brell-Cokcan VIENNA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY 3dimensional bend, our solution: - elimination of the need for a large temporary formwork in constructing - new automation of the bending process for reinforcement steel rods pct - patent application pct/at05/000473 “direct numeric control method for reinforcement bending machines” (inventors: s.
