Have TONS of Fun at...
Here’s to the brickmakers.
Acme Brick Company’s history in Malvern began just after
World War I, when Walter Bennett came to Hot Spring
County in search of clay for brickmaking. Acme’s Àrst 3erla
3lant opened in 1921.
Over the last nine decades, we have placed our most
sophisticated brickmaking technology right here – and
thousands of homes and commercial buildings throughout
the region attest to the quality of brick made in Malvern.
But clay was only the Àrst great discovery we found near
the banks of the Ouachita. The second was the skill and
dedication of our associates.
So as you enjoy the activities of Brickfest this year, please
join us in recognizing the talented, hard-working men
and women who continue to make our city
the Brick Capital of the World.

Brickfest celebrates 35 years
Brickfest XXXV is set to officially kick off on Friday, June 26 with
a two-day schedule jam-packed with
events.
Brickfest has been a staple in
Malvern, the Brick Capital of the
World, since 1981, celebrating the
city’s connection to the brick industry and its importance to the town.
The brick industry has been providing jobs to the people of this area
since 1887.
In 1980, there were three brick
plants in Malvern and Perla, which
led to the Malvern/Hot Spring County Chamber of Commerce declaring
that Malvern was the “Brick Capital
of the World.” Following up on that
declaration the next year, a festival
celebrating the local brick industry
was held.
The inception of the very first
Brickfest is credited to Roy Renfro,
who was the director of the Chamber
of Commerce at the time.
Brickfest has continued to grow
over the years since that first event,
with more activities getting added
each year. In 2010, the festival had
outgrown its old site (around the Hot
Spring County Courthouse) and was
moved to Malvern City Park to better
accommodate the growing crowds.
Brickfest is held on the last full
weekend of June each year. While
the opening ceremony will not take
place until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26,
patrons will start filling the park at
noon that day.
Acme Brick is the only remaining
brick plant in Malvern and Perla and
it is very involved in the festival by
providing souvenir bricks, making
the custom-designed brick for the
Brick Car Derby and the bricks for
the Best Dressed Brick, Brick Toss
and other bricks for all trophies given
for different activities.
They also provide a display and
donate 10,000 bricks as a prize in the
Saturday night prize drawing. Last
year, Baby Clay (the world’s largest brick, measuring 116-inches long
and weighing more than three tons)
made its first appearance at Brickfest. It will return this year and Acme
Brick’s mascot, Brick Boy, will make
his first trip to Brickfest.
Music has always been a big part
of Brickfest, with acts performing on
the Bank of the Ozarks Stage through
the two-day event.
In addition to the headlining act,
Diamond Rio, other musical acts this
year include Gary Helms, Super 55,
Just Sayin and Riverbilly.
Music is provided at no cost to the
public beginning on Friday evening
and all day Saturday.
Along with the musical acts, visitors to Brickfest can expect other festival staples like the Annual Car and
Truck Show, Miss Brickfest beauty
pageant (held the Saturday before
Brickfest), Brick-B-Que Baby Back
Rib Cook-off, the Malvern Daily Re-
cord Scavenger Hunt, Baby Contest,
Dog Show, Quilt Show, Horseshoe
Tournament, Brick Car Derby, Brick
Toss, BB Gun Shooting Gallery, 5K
Run, Watermelon Eating Contest,
Talent Contest, Bull Bash and more.
The Bull Bash was such as success
from its inception a year ago, that
the event has been extended to two
nights at the Malvern Rodeo Arena.
The Bull Riders will also be available
at the Acme Brick tent for autographs
and pictures. Some will even have a
chance to float the Ouachita River
with some of the bull riders on Saturday.
Food vendors, retail and arts and
crafts booths from five states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri
and Ohio) will be on hand to offer
something for everyone.
People, vendors and entertainment come from near and far to be a part of Brickfest
each year. (MDR file photo)

Diamond Rio to headline Brickfest XXXXV
After 25 years together, more than 10 million albums sold, a Grammy Award, a Dove
Award, six Vocal Group of the Year wins
(CMA and ACM), two Greatest Hits projects,
9 studio albums including three certified Platinum® and five Gold®, five multi-week no. 1
singles, 22 Top 10 singles, an autobiography
and zero band member changes, Diamond
Rio is still going strong.
Formed in 1989 in Nashville, TN the band
consists of Gene Johnson (mandolin, tenor
vocals), Jimmy Olander (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo), Brian Prout (drums), Marty
Roe (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Dan Truman (keyboards) and Dana Williams (bass
guitar, baritone vocals).
Diamond Rio signed to Arista Records
and in 1991 and with the release of “Meet In
The Middle,” became the first country music group in history to reach #1 with a debut
single. The band is also known for their hit
singles “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,”
"One More Day," "Beautiful Mess,” “Unbelievable,” “In A Week Or Two” and more.
They released their first-ever autobiography,
Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio in
2009 on Thomas Nelson.
The band known for playing every note on
every album recently released their first-ever
live project, Diamond Rio Live, sold exclusively at iTunes and www.diamondrio.com.
Diamond Rio Live includes 22 of their top
10 singles, five no.1 singles and two never
before recorded highlights of their show, the
Newgrass Medley and Western Medley. “After all these years this is the first time we ever
recorded [Western Medley], and I’m so glad
it is part of this CD,” said bass guitarist and
baritone vocalist Dana Williams. “It’s just
GOOD music. God Bless the Cowboy!” Lead
singer Marty Roe says of Newgrass Medley,
“Bluegrass is a huge influence on our sound
both vocally and instrumentally. I can’t imagine not including it on this project. Most of us
grew up in the 70’s listening to pop and rock.
This just seemed to make sense and is a lot of
fun for us to perform live.”
The group also includes two Hits’ Medleys
because as lead guitarist Jimmy Olander explains, “Medleys come about because as time
passes in your career, you realize that there is
no way to include every radio single in your
show. Obviously some songs were bigger hits
than others, but you can’t discount that there
are still big fans of these songs.” He adds,
“We’ve taken the chorus and the hook elements and made them into a couple of what
we call Hits’ Medleys. It was important to us
that we didn’t discount a bunch of songs that
speak to our career.”
Recorded from multiple live performances, Diamond Rio Live features 32 songs.
The distinguished three-part harmonies and
instrumentation sound as sharp as they do in
their live show because the 14-time Grammy
nominees and Grand Ole Opry members have
always been known for playing every note
on every album – from the beginning. “Who
could duplicate Diamond Rio's sound better
than we can?” says drummer Brian Prout.
Known for their charity commitments
including long-time spokespersons for Big
Brothers Big Sisters, the band has raised over
$1,000,000.00 for non-profits and received
the Minnie Pearl and CRS Humanitarian
awards.

It takes a selection of high quality original music written by some of
Nashville’s biggest songwriters and
four talented musicians that are all
friends to succeed at the highest level
in today’s country music venue.
Hard
work…determination…
sacrifice… those three terms aptly
defines what Riverbilly is all about.
Years of hard work and a determination to succeed at the highest level has
sharpened the skills of and paved the
way for Travis, Brad, Steve, Charlie
and TJ. Each raised on different backgrounds of music. All five have been
in bands respectively before coming
together to form Riverbilly
For the past seven years, they
have been criss-crossing the country
as one of the most sought out independent country bands in the country,
honing their craft on stages large and
small,. Riverbilly is known throughout the country as a band with one of
the most dynamic live shows in any
genre of music.
The list of those they have shared
bills with continues to grow—Dierks
Bentley, Blake Shelton, REO Speedwagon, Darius Rucker, Little Big
Town, Jason Aldean, Josh Turner,
Charlie Daniels, Rascal Flats, Taylor Swift, and many others. But this
band does not worry about who plays
before or after, all they care about is
when they are together on stage.
Riverbilly is the total package,
they have great vocals, world-class
energetic live show, talented with a
unique look and charisma to burn.
Not to mention their wealth of expe-
rience and a work ethic that impresses everyone.
Along with their amped-up live
show, Riverbilly’s incredible sound
with three-part harmony combined
together allows them to continue
the winning of fans in city after city,
night after night.
In September of 2011, Lead
Singer/Guitarist, Travis Caudell
was involved in a head on collision
sustaining life threatening injuries
which caused the band to take off the
remaining year and the majority of
2012, allowing Caudell to heal and
rehab. After coming back to the stage
the band set out to Nashville again
to start writing, recording and seeking new music. After signing with a
management company in Nashville,
the band found themselves leaving
and going back to their roots where
it all began.
Currently the band has six new
songs recorded for their new album,
while working on completing the
album that is tentatively scheduled
for a 2015 release. Juggling the tour
schedule and their families keeps the
band busy, but they are always thankful for their dedicated fans that allow
them to fulfill their dreams every time
they step on that stage.
“We walk out, take one look at the
crowd and attack. We never let up,
whether it’s a thirty-minute opening slot for a headliner or a two-hour
show. The energy stays cranked up
the entire time.” Behind that energy
is a world of industry knowledge put
to good use. We put time, effort, pas-
sion, drive, determination, creativity
and initiative into making our ideas,
music and dreams become reality every single time we step on a stage.”
It is a chemistry that most desire
and never experience. Riverbilly’s
current involvement in Domestic
Violence Awareness and Special
Olympics has led them to a national
television appearance and continued
touring throughout the country playing over 100 shows a year.

It takes a selection of high quality original music written by some of
Nashville’s biggest songwriters and
four talented musicians that are all
friends to succeed at the highest level
in today’s country music venue.
Hard
work…determination…
sacrifice… those three terms aptly
defines what Riverbilly is all about.
Years of hard work and a determination to succeed at the highest level has
sharpened the skills of and paved the
way for Travis, Brad, Steve, Charlie
and TJ. Each raised on different backgrounds of music. All five have been
in bands respectively before coming
together to form Riverbilly
For the past seven years, they
have been criss-crossing the country
as one of the most sought out independent country bands in the country,
honing their craft on stages large and
small,. Riverbilly is known throughout the country as a band with one of
the most dynamic live shows in any
genre of music.
The list of those they have shared
bills with continues to grow—Dierks
Bentley, Blake Shelton, REO Speedwagon, Darius Rucker, Little Big
Town, Jason Aldean, Josh Turner,
Charlie Daniels, Rascal Flats, Taylor Swift, and many others. But this
band does not worry about who plays
before or after, all they care about is
when they are together on stage.
Riverbilly is the total package,
they have great vocals, world-class
energetic live show, talented with a
unique look and charisma to burn.
Not to mention their wealth of expe-
rience and a work ethic that impresses everyone.
Along with their amped-up live
show, Riverbilly’s incredible sound
with three-part harmony combined
together allows them to continue
the winning of fans in city after city,
night after night.
In September of 2011, Lead
Singer/Guitarist, Travis Caudell
was involved in a head on collision
sustaining life threatening injuries
which caused the band to take off the
remaining year and the majority of
2012, allowing Caudell to heal and
rehab. After coming back to the stage
the band set out to Nashville again
to start writing, recording and seeking new music. After signing with a
management company in Nashville,
the band found themselves leaving
and going back to their roots where
it all began.
Currently the band has six new
songs recorded for their new album,
while working on completing the
album that is tentatively scheduled
for a 2015 release. Juggling the tour
schedule and their families keeps the
band busy, but they are always thankful for their dedicated fans that allow
them to fulfill their dreams every time
they step on that stage.
“We walk out, take one look at the
crowd and attack. We never let up,
whether it’s a thirty-minute opening slot for a headliner or a two-hour
show. The energy stays cranked up
the entire time.” Behind that energy
is a world of industry knowledge put
to good use. We put time, effort, pas-
sion, drive, determination, creativity
and initiative into making our ideas,
music and dreams become reality every single time we step on a stage.”
It is a chemistry that most desire
and never experience. Riverbilly’s
current involvement in Domestic
Violence Awareness and Special
Olympics has led them to a national
television appearance and continued
touring throughout the country playing over 100 shows a year.

Diamond Rio to headline Brickfest XXXXV
After 25 years together, more than 10 million albums sold, a Grammy Award, a Dove
Award, six Vocal Group of the Year wins
(CMA and ACM), two Greatest Hits projects,
9 studio albums including three certified Platinum® and five Gold®, five multi-week no. 1
singles, 22 Top 10 singles, an autobiography
and zero band member changes, Diamond
Rio is still going strong.
Formed in 1989 in Nashville, TN the band
consists of Gene Johnson (mandolin, tenor
vocals), Jimmy Olander (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo), Brian Prout (drums), Marty
Roe (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Dan Truman (keyboards) and Dana Williams (bass
guitar, baritone vocals).
Diamond Rio signed to Arista Records
and in 1991 and with the release of “Meet In
The Middle,” became the first country music group in history to reach #1 with a debut
single. The band is also known for their hit
singles “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,”
"One More Day," "Beautiful Mess,” “Unbelievable,” “In A Week Or Two” and more.
They released their first-ever autobiography,
Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio in
2009 on Thomas Nelson.
The band known for playing every note on
every album recently released their first-ever
live project, Diamond Rio Live, sold exclusively at iTunes and www.diamondrio.com.
Diamond Rio Live includes 22 of their top
10 singles, five no.1 singles and two never
before recorded highlights of their show, the
Newgrass Medley and Western Medley. “After all these years this is the first time we ever
recorded [Western Medley], and I’m so glad
it is part of this CD,” said bass guitarist and
baritone vocalist Dana Williams. “It’s just
GOOD music. God Bless the Cowboy!” Lead
singer Marty Roe says of Newgrass Medley,
“Bluegrass is a huge influence on our sound
both vocally and instrumentally. I can’t imagine not including it on this project. Most of us
grew up in the 70’s listening to pop and rock.
This just seemed to make sense and is a lot of
fun for us to perform live.”
The group also includes two Hits’ Medleys
because as lead guitarist Jimmy Olander explains, “Medleys come about because as time
passes in your career, you realize that there is
no way to include every radio single in your
show. Obviously some songs were bigger hits
than others, but you can’t discount that there
are still big fans of these songs.” He adds,
“We’ve taken the chorus and the hook elements and made them into a couple of what
we call Hits’ Medleys. It was important to us
that we didn’t discount a bunch of songs that
speak to our career.”
Recorded from multiple live performances, Diamond Rio Live features 32 songs.
The distinguished three-part harmonies and
instrumentation sound as sharp as they do in
their live show because the 14-time Grammy
nominees and Grand Ole Opry members have
always been known for playing every note
on every album – from the beginning. “Who
could duplicate Diamond Rio's sound better
than we can?” says drummer Brian Prout.
Known for their charity commitments
including long-time spokespersons for Big
Brothers Big Sisters, the band has raised over
$1,000,000.00 for non-profits and received
the Minnie Pearl and CRS Humanitarian
awards.

Brickfest celebrates 35 years
Brickfest XXXV is set to officially kick off on Friday, June 26 with
a two-day schedule jam-packed with
events.
Brickfest has been a staple in
Malvern, the Brick Capital of the
World, since 1981, celebrating the
city’s connection to the brick industry and its importance to the town.
The brick industry has been providing jobs to the people of this area
since 1887.
In 1980, there were three brick
plants in Malvern and Perla, which
led to the Malvern/Hot Spring County Chamber of Commerce declaring
that Malvern was the “Brick Capital
of the World.” Following up on that
declaration the next year, a festival
celebrating the local brick industry
was held.
The inception of the very first
Brickfest is credited to Roy Renfro,
who was the director of the Chamber
of Commerce at the time.
Brickfest has continued to grow
over the years since that first event,
with more activities getting added
each year. In 2010, the festival had
outgrown its old site (around the Hot
Spring County Courthouse) and was
moved to Malvern City Park to better
accommodate the growing crowds.
Brickfest is held on the last full
weekend of June each year. While
the opening ceremony will not take
place until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26,
patrons will start filling the park at
noon that day.
Acme Brick is the only remaining
brick plant in Malvern and Perla and
it is very involved in the festival by
providing souvenir bricks, making
the custom-designed brick for the
Brick Car Derby and the bricks for
the Best Dressed Brick, Brick Toss
and other bricks for all trophies given
for different activities.
They also provide a display and
donate 10,000 bricks as a prize in the
Saturday night prize drawing. Last
year, Baby Clay (the world’s largest brick, measuring 116-inches long
and weighing more than three tons)
made its first appearance at Brickfest. It will return this year and Acme
Brick’s mascot, Brick Boy, will make
his first trip to Brickfest.
Music has always been a big part
of Brickfest, with acts performing on
the Bank of the Ozarks Stage through
the two-day event.
In addition to the headlining act,
Diamond Rio, other musical acts this
year include Gary Helms, Super 55,
Just Sayin and Riverbilly.
Music is provided at no cost to the
public beginning on Friday evening
and all day Saturday.
Along with the musical acts, visitors to Brickfest can expect other festival staples like the Annual Car and
Truck Show, Miss Brickfest beauty
pageant (held the Saturday before
Brickfest), Brick-B-Que Baby Back
Rib Cook-off, the Malvern Daily Re-
cord Scavenger Hunt, Baby Contest,
Dog Show, Quilt Show, Horseshoe
Tournament, Brick Car Derby, Brick
Toss, BB Gun Shooting Gallery, 5K
Run, Watermelon Eating Contest,
Talent Contest, Bull Bash and more.
The Bull Bash was such as success
from its inception a year ago, that
the event has been extended to two
nights at the Malvern Rodeo Arena.
The Bull Riders will also be available
at the Acme Brick tent for autographs
and pictures. Some will even have a
chance to float the Ouachita River
with some of the bull riders on Saturday.
Food vendors, retail and arts and
crafts booths from five states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri
and Ohio) will be on hand to offer
something for everyone.
People, vendors and entertainment come from near and far to be a part of Brickfest
each year. (MDR file photo)
