The following event error is recorded in the event log. Event ID: 7001 Source: Service control manager Type: Error Explanation: The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The device connected to the system does not function. IMPORTANT When WindowsNT is installed without PS/2 mouse connected, the [Change] button is disabled, causing the touch panel driver not to be installed. TOSHIBA TEC CORPORATION 34 Windows Setup Guide for ST-70 10) Precaution for Use of PC Cards When using a PC card under Windows NT, it is necessary to change the settings. (A PC card is used instead of a CF.) Select the [Advanced] menu of the BIOS setup menu, and change the settings of the “PnP/PCI Configurations” as follows: INT A# Assignment [11] → [15] INT B# Assignment [11] → [15] INT C# Assignment [11] → [15] INT D# Assignment [11] → [15] Change the setting of the “Integrated Peripherals” of the [Advanced] menu as follows: On Chip IDE Channel1 [Enabled] → [Disabled] After that, assign “11” to the IRQ used by the PC card. When a PC card is inserted, the I/O address may conflict with other device, depending on the PC card’s I/O address. In this case, change the I/O address of the PC card. Example) When Symbol Technology’s wireless LAN card (LA-4121) driver is installed, the default I/O address is ranging from 300 to 337. For the I/O addresses of TEC UPS and drawer are: I/O address of the UPS: 318 I/O address of the drawer: 310 As a result, the UPS and the drawer cannot be used due to the conflict. Accordingly, it is necessary to change the I/O address of the wireless LAN card. If a PC card, of which driver was uninstalled even just once, is inserted, Windows NT may assign a resource to the PC card, causing other devices to be disabled. Therefore, it is necessary to delete the currently used PC card’s key from the PC card insertion record in the registry, and then reboot the machine. You will find the PC card insertion record at “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pcmcia\Database”. TOSHIBA TEC CORPORATION 35 Windows Setup Guide for ST-70 Example) After uninstalling the Symbol Technology’s wireless LAN card (LA-4121) driver, if Windows NT is started while the wireless PC card remains inserted, Windows NT assigns IRQ10 to the wireless LAN card. To check the assigned resource, select the PCMCIA in the Control Panel, and click on the [Properties] button on the PC Card (PCMCIA) Devices screen. On the Resource page, information of IRQ currently assigned to the Resource is shown. If IRQ10 is assigned to the wireless PC card, the touch panel cannot be used because IRQ10 is intended for the touch panel. By deleting the Symbol Technology’s wireless LAN card record from the PC card insertion record in the registry, the assignment of IRQ10 is canceled. You will find the PC card insertion record at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pcmcia\Database. Delete “Symbol Technologies” from the record and reboot the machine. TOSHIBA TEC CORPORATION 36 Windows Setup Guide for ST-70 5.
