HOW TO READ
A PROGRAM PAGE
Located in the infield behind the finish line, the Tote
Board provides constantly updated current odds,
amounts in wagering pools, jockey and weight
changes, fractional times for each race, results and
payoffs, and messages.
The Daily Program offers essential information
such as abbreviated past performances, morning
line odds, official program numbers and other
valuable information.
Below is an example of what the tote board looks
like and how to read it.

The Track Announcer: Calls the action during
each race and provides continuous updates
of racing information such as late scratches,
overweights & jockey changes throughout the
day.
Tip Sheets: A staff handicapper handicaps
the day’s races and gives selections and
commentary for each race.

The odds do not represent each horse’s chances
of winning, but what bettors think those chances
are, based on how they actually bet. Odds are
based on the WIN pool only. The lower the odds
on the tote board, the better the chances of that
horse winning the race, in the estimation of the
betting public. The odds are set by the amount of
money the public bets on each horse.

WHAT THE ODDS MEAN
Always check your tickets before leaving the
mutuel window. You may return your ticket and
change or cancel your ticket BEFORE post time.
You (the customer) are responsible for having
your desired ticket at post time.
The TV Handicapping Show: The voice of the
TV commentator is heard prior to each live race,
providing analysis with his selections listed on
TV monitors.
