Sophea`s Profile
Activist
Sophea Chrek is a feminist activist from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. From a garment
worker background, Sophea has been vigorously working to empower young women
workers for the last eight years. Most recently, she was involved in different
movements fighting for social, economic and political change.
Sophea believes in the ideal of “people over profit” and has devoted herself to
advocating for a more just and secure Cambodia “where people can live their lives
happily without fear and have access to resources.”
Sophea is looking forward to the iLEAP program as a chance “to create a space
[amongst the fellows] where we can share our challenges and successes from
experience and enhance our support of each other.”

renews social leaders and
global citizens through
integrated leadership
programs that ignite
hope and transformation
in the world.
The iLEAP International Fellowship is a long-term investment in community-based
leadership in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Each year, iLEAP selects up to 15
grass-roots leaders from around the world from a highly competitive pool of hundreds
to join this unique, cross-cultural and global leadership training in Seattle. The program is well
integrated, with a balance between personal reflection and retreat, group learning and dialogue,
and professional training in partnership, communication, and effective leadership. iLEAP Fellows
return home to lead their communities with a renewed clarity and commitment to who they are,
what they do, and how together we can change the world.
