WELCOME!
Welcome to D23 Expo 2013! On behalf of
everyone at The Walt Disney Company, thank you
for joining us to celebrate the magic, wonder, and
adventure of Disney at this remarkable three-day
gathering created especially for you, our most
passionate and devoted fans.
It’s wonderful to see, for the third time, tens of
thousands of Disney fans from around the world
gathering here at the Anaheim Convention Center
to celebrate the past, present, and future of the
company Walt Disney founded in 1923. And we
couldn’t be happier to welcome you to the worlds of
Disney once again at this event—one that is, literally,
90 years in the making.
Whether you are a fan of Disney’s theme
parks, animation, television shows, movies, books, or collectibles, you will discover something
magical everywhere you turn as you explore the pavilions, screening rooms, exhibition halls,
AD
THE LITTLE MERMAID
and presentation theaters that await you. This year, we have many surprises in store for you from
an exciting sneak peek at what’s next from The Walt Disney Studios—including Walt Disney
Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Live Action, and Marvel—to celebrity
appearances, autograph signings with Disney Channel stars, a chance to visit with our animators
and Imagineers, and more.
As we approach the 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins, what better way to kick off the
celebration than with the largest collection of Poppins props and costumes ever assembled in one
place, which you can enjoy as part of this year’s Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit. As
most Disney fans know, Richard Sherman co-wrote, along with his brother, the songs from this
iconic Disney film, among countless others, and he will be teaming up with fellow Disney Legend
Alan Menken for a very special concert on Saturday night called “The Disney Songbook.” This
unprecedented, one-night-only musical event is not to be missed!
We hope you enjoy the D23 Expo—the ultimate Disney fan event made just for you…
the ultimate Disney fans!
Bob Iger

TREASURES OF THE WALT DISNEY ARCHIVES ª PAVILIONS
MARY POPPINS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
As the 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins approaches, the Archives presents a wide
array of iconic display from the Academy Award-winning 1964 film, including concept
art and matte paintings, Mary and Bert's carousel horses, the snow globe from the
“Feed the Birds” sequence, costumes worn by many of the central characters, and the
recently acquired carpet bag, which Mary famously uses to carry her assortment of
magical belongings that bring inspiration and wonder to the Banks household.
PAVILIONS ª TREASURES OF THE WALT DISNEY ARCHIVES
Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, an exhibit brought to you by D23: The Official
Disney Fan Club and the Walt Disney Archives, features the 50th anniversary of Mary
Poppins, ABC’s hit television series Once Upon a Time, the new Disney Channel film Teen
Beach Movie, and a look at the long-standing connection between Disney and
L. Frank Baum's beloved series of books about the Land of Oz. Located on the second
floor, Treasures showcases a selection of crown jewels from the Walt Disney Archives
collection, many of which will be displayed publicly for the first time.
For D23 Expo’s 2013 Disney Fan Art Contest, Disney fans were asked to submit two
or three-dimensional art pieces inspired by Mary Poppins, which celebrates its 50th
anniversary in 2014, and is prominently featured in the Treasures of the Walt Disney
Archives exhibit at the 2013 D23 Expo.
Dana Point, California's, Britni Brault, who created the highly detailed paper
sculpture Raspberry Ice, Cakes & Tea, inspired by the “Penguin Dance” number of
the “Jolly Holiday” sequence from Mary Poppins, is this year’s D23 Fan Art Contest
Winner. Britni's creation masterfully incorporates the pastel hues, iconic shapes, and
lovable characters that have made watching Mary Poppins a grand and memorable
experience for several generations of moviegoers.
DISNEY’S ADVENTURES IN THE LAND OF OZ
On the heels of the global success of Oz The Great and Powerful, the Archives is proud
to assemble artifacts illustrating Disney's long association with L. Frank Baum's
Oz books. Highlights include a costume from 1957’s “The Rainbow Road to Oz”—a
segment from The Fourth Anniversary Show, which celebrated Walt's four years on
television, and starred many of the Mickey Mouse Club's Mouseketeers—as well as
concept art from unrealized attractions and Disney Studio productions. Also featured
are props and costume pieces from 1985's Return to Oz, including Tik-Tok, the “Powder
of Life” tin, and Dorothy's costume and slippers. And, of course, there will be an
assortment of costumes from this year's Oz The Great and Powerful.
