Our annual Lenten Dinners kicked off on February 20 as we
reintroduced Knight of Columbus Lenten Fish Fries to the All
Saints community. The dinner consisted of fired fish, frie d
shrimp, hushpuppies, corn on the cob, cole slaw and
chocolate chip cookies. Pizza was also available for the nonfish crowd. Prep work commenced immediately following
our usual “Friday book club” lunch. Additional help arrive d
around 4 PM as members of the Newman Catholic Ministry
at UTD and the RCIA program at All Saints assisted with final
food prep, food service, Fellowship Hall monitoring and
overall cleanup. There were 110 paying customers and many
positive comments about the meal and the service relayed
to the team during the evening.

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE
Brother Knights,
I enjoy reading the daily meditations from Fr Alfonse. Below is an excellent excerpt from a mediation by Katie
Gross that was published February 23.
Mt 25:31-46
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’
When I read this reading, I had nothing to say that hasn’t already been said a million times. However, I do know a woman who is a professional at these
kind of things—Mother Teresa. From volunteer experience with the Missionaries of Charity, I can say that Mother Teresa is the most powerful woman I
have ever heard of. She was powerful not in the worldly sense—in fact, she was as poor as could be—but in the spiritual sense, this woman was obviously a
saint.
Mother Teresa lived her whole life around this Gospel reading. I really encourage you to watch her Nobel Prize speech. It is eighteen minutes long (she has
a lot to talk about), but you could add it into your nightly prayer. To hear the voice of a modern-day saint is worth the time. It makes the Gospel come alive.
http://www.nobelpriz e.org/medi aplayer/ind ex.php?id=1852. Here are some of my favorite quotes from her speech, all of which embody today’s Gospel:
“[Jesus] makes Himself that hungry one, that naked one, that homeless one—and not only hungry for a piece of bread, but hungry for love. Not only
naked for a piece of cloth, but naked of human dignity. Not only homeless for a room to live, but homeless for have being forgotten, unloved, uncared
for—being nobody to nobody. Having forgotten what is human love, what is human touch, what it is to be loved by somebody. And he says: ‘Whatever
you did to the least of these my brethren, you did unto me.’ It is so beautiful for us to become holy through this love.”
“We must tell the poor… that they are somebody to us… they too have been created by the same loving hand of God, to love and to be loved. Our poor
people are great people—are very loveable people. They don’t need our pity and sympathy. They need our loving understanding. They need our respect.”
“The greatest destroyer of peace today is the cry of the innocent unborn child. For if a mother can kill her own child in her own womb, what is it for you
and me to kill each other? In the Scripture it is written: ‘Even if a mother could forget her child, I could not forget you. I have carved you in the palm of
my hand.’”
“A love, to be true, has to hurt. I never forget a little child who taught me a very beautiful lesson. They heard in Calcutta—the children—that Mother
Teresa has no sugar for her children. And this little one—Hindu boy, four years old—he went home and he told his parents, ‘I will not eat sugar for three
days. I will give my sugar to Mother Teresa’… He loved with great love. He loved until it hurt. And this is what I ask of you: to love one another until it
hurts.”
“One evening, a gentleman came to our house and said, ‘There is a Hindu family with eight children. They have not eaten in a long time. Do something
for them.’ And I took rice and I went immediately, and there was this mother. And those little ones’ faces—shining eyes from sheer hunger. She took the
rice from my hands, she divided it into two, and she went out. When she came back, I asked her, ‘Where did you go?’ ‘What did you do?’ And the answer
she gave me? ‘They are hungry also.’ She knew that the next door neighbor, a Muslim family, was hungry. What surprised me most wasn’t that she
gave the rice, but that in her suffering, in her hunger, she knew that somebody else was hungry, and she had the courage—she had the love to share.
And this is what I want you to do: to love the poor. And never turn your back on the poor, for when you do, you turn it to Christ. For He has made himself
the hungry one, the naked one, and the homeless one, so that you and I have the opportunity to love Him.”
“Where is God? How can we love God? It’s not enough to say, ‘My God, I love you,’ but ‘My God, I love you here. ’I can enjoy this, but I give it. I can eat
that sugar, but I give that sugar. You would be surprised at the things people do to share the joy of giving.”
Remember the first principal of the Knights of Columbus is charity and as Jesus said, “as you did
it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” During this Lenten season, we should
all consider what we can do for the less fortunate.
Blessed Mother Teresa, pray for us!
Vivat Jesus!
Harry

Knight of the Month (January)
Ed Munno. Ed Munno was selected as Knight of the Month for his hard work as lead
chef on the Support our Seminarian and Italian dinners. At the Italian dinner, everyone
raved about his famous pasta sauce with big chunks of meat. In addition to his duties
as Community Director, Ed regularly helps at the tamale sales. Ed’s humble demeanor
and big smile are always a welcome addition at any Knight event.
Family of the Month (January)
Jeff and Ann Yeargan. Jeff and Ann Yeargan were selected as the family of the
month. Jeff is an officer in our council and regularly assists with tamale sales, serving
coffee and donuts, and assisting with other council events. Jeff and Ann both serve as
ushers and often work together on major parish events.
Ed Munno is pictured while preparing his famous past a
sauce made with Italian sausage and beef short ribs.
Apron Award
This month Mike Clark and Matt Atkinson are the winners of the Knight’s Apron
Award. This award is for a new member who assists with several events. Mike has
helped with tamale sales and pancake breakfasts. Matt has helped with several
pancake breakfasts and was a big help with the clean-up after the Italian dinner. Please
thank these new Knights for their
service to the Council.

WE ALWAYS APPRECIATE THE FANS
Today was a day of surrender – the first time we have ever gone to an abortion center
to pray the Rosary and did not stand on the sidewalk… We surrendered to the
weather! Today is February 28 and the weather included sub-freezing temperatures
and freezing rain! Sharon and I are both struggling with multi-week colds and thought
we should be a little more cautious. I think the Lord will understand. 
It was amazing to see the number of cars in the parking lot at the SW abortion center!
There were not many cars on the road due to the ice and yet a number of people
were willing to brave the elements to eliminate an “inconvenient” child.

The Planned Parenthood

we are frequently “greeted” by the cars that pass by. Most cars go by with no

reaction. There are some cars that go by that let us know “we are number one!” and
then there are a few cars that give us a “thumbs
up!” – we always appreciate these fans. Last week we traveled up to McKinney to
support their 40 Days for Life campaign and found a LOT of support from the cars
traveling along Hebron Parkway. We have never seen so many “thumbs up” and heard
the short horn honks (which indicate approval). It is a long trip – but the feedback is
worth the trip.
We are getting ready for the Bishop’s 22 nd Annual Catholic Pro-Life Dinner to be held on
April 18 at the Irving Convention Center. This year we will be entertained by Kathy
Troccoli, an award winning singer and by Patrick Coffin, the Catholic Answers Live host,
as the Master of Ceremonies. If you would like to attend this dinner with others from
our Council – please let us know as soon as possible. The seats at our tables are going
fast! We will be in the Fellowship Hall at our next breakfast selling tickets to the raffle
associated with the Dinner.
Please remember – If not you, who??? If not this, what??? If not now, when???

COUNCIL SERVES 246 AT MONTHLY EVENT
On Sunday, February 15, we served 246 folks, the most in a long time. We did feed everybody but we also
ran out of a number of items so the selection for the late mass was a bit thin. We used two of our old favorite
casseroles, a variety of pancake flavors and the usual assortment of accompaniments for the meal.
Fellowship Hall was packed and we had to set up more tables. The Epic Jazz Band did a great job of
entertaining the large crowds and even threw in some new arrangements and introduced a new vocalist.
Stan Tax gets the eggs scrambled after the 9:15 Mass.
After a brief hiatus, Bob Pitts (left) returns to the
griddle while Doyle Kitchen (right) continues “praying
with Betsy” and handles some of the cleanup tasks.

Serving that many parishioners is a lot of
work and let it be known that we have a
great team of Knights and Ladies who
are willing to put in that effort, many
doing it month after month. Jim and
Shirley Sammons, Jack Ayers, Harry
Storey, Kevin Finch, Stan Schwieterman
and Fred Kellner completed the prep
work on Friday afternoon. On Sunday, The Epic Jazz Band featuring dual trombones ,

took their money. We thank you all for your time, service and fellowship!
At the conclusion of last month’s article it was mentioned “…many new Knights were
exemplified”… and it was our… “hope to see most of you there for the fun and
fellowship.” Well, we did have a few, including some transfers, but we would like to
see more. We had more exemplifications this month so as a reminder… on Sunday,
March 15, cooking starts at 7 AM, and continues throughout the morning; with clean
up from noon until around 2 PM. We hope to see you there.

BLAST FROM THE PAST…
Serving 246 was reminiscent of our early days when we regularly served between 240 and 260 people… but what was “the record”?
so we completed some research and found in our June 2005 edition of THE BEACON…
COUNCIL CATERS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN CELEBRATION
Thanks to the 28 volunteers of Lumen Christi Council, 430 parishioners were well fed and the Capital Campaign Celebration Breakfa s t

OFFICER ELECTIONS FOR NEW FRATERNAL YEAR
Brothers, it is time for us to look for those who will lead our council in the 2015 - 2016 fraternal year. Each of us has an opportunity to
make an impact on the Lumen Christi council by our thoughts, our words and our deeds. This is key for those who will continue to lead
our council through its second decade of being "The Light of Christ" at All Saints. To aid you in your decision a brief explanation of the
officer duties and responsibilitie s is included below. We are looking for some men to step up to the challenges of leading our council as
we enter this time of greater and greater threats to our religious freedom and the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church. Are you willing
to serve our council, our diocese, our order and the church? Please spend some time in prayerful thought about the officer positions
available. If you would be willing to be a part of the new officer team for the 2015 - 2016 fraternal year, please contact nominations

LENTEN DINNERS CONTINUE
If you looked at the schedule on the parish website, on the
communications monitors or even on our signup sheets, the council was
supposed to host another Lenten Dinner on Friday, February 27.
However, Mother Nature had other ideas. An accumulation of snow and All Saints Catholic Church sported very white surroundings on
February 27 as snow and ice accumulated and forced cancellati on
ice closed the Meadowcreek Campus at 1 PM on Friday cancelling both of our Lenten Dinner and Stations of the Cross.
our Lenten Dinner and Stations of the Cross. The Men’s Club will be hosting the March 6 dinner as the Knights prepare for
the Marian Stations of the Cross. The Multicultural Ministry is cooking on March 13. We will host (actually co-host) the
Lenten Dinner on March 20 and March 27 (see menus below). The focus of our Lenten Meals is to bring family and friends
together to enjoy a meal, share fellowship and then attend The Stations of the Cross, which take place in the church beginning
at 7 PM. Anyone wishing to assist at any of the two remaining meals we are hosting should contact Larry Milliken at 972467-4753 or [email protected].

On the 11th of March the Lumen Christi Council of the Knights of Columbus, at All Saints Church, held their second dinner of the Lente n
Season. Fish, fries, corn, hushpuppies and coleslaw all joined together to make the event a rousing success. We were fortunate to have
191 of our friends and fellow worshippers join us at the event. This was our largest attendance thus far…

COLUMBIAN SQUIRES CONVENTION
This past month Squires were able to get service hours at All Saints Italian Dinner fundraiser and
the Senior Prom hosted by the All Saints Youth Ministries. Squires also attended the Catholic night
Maverick’s game on last weekend in February (see page 11 for related story).
Squires recruitment fliers are being sent out to All Saints RE classes and as an added attachment in ASCS Saintly Notes. Please
encourage 10 to 18 year old All Saints boys to join the Squires. We have one monthly meeting and plan one fun or service
event for the month. The Squires Circle activities encourage boys to have fun among peers and build confidence and social
skills. Service activities promote volunteerism, programs, and events that help the community and those less fortunate.
Spiritual activities help boys grow in their Catholic faith and develop Christian character.

thick meat sauce served over penne pasta, Caesar salad, fruit salad, French bread, and homemade desserts. Ed Munno
prepared the sauce and purchased all the food. John and Barb Meyer, Larry Brennan, Doug Hakala, Ron Schott, and Harry
Storey prepared and served the food at the Fisher House. The guests and staff at the Fisher House thanked the Knights for
the delicious meal and several of the spouses packed up food for their sick husbands to enjoy in the VA Hospital. This is a
very rewarding experience and I encourage other Knights and their family members to join in this worthwhile event.
The Lumen Christi Council provides meals to the Fisher House once a quarter. If you are interested in helping in the future,
please contact Ed Munno at 972-788-9174 or e-mail: [email protected].

NEXT BLOOD DRIVE SET FOR MARCH 22
For our January drive, Carter BloodCare reported that 34 blood donors were
registered and they collected 35 units of life-saving blood, thanks to double
red cell donors. Only three donors were deferred and there were six first-time
donors, which is fantastic. The 35 units of blood collected at the drive will
ultimately save the lives of up to 105 patients in local hospitals. Our liaison
for Carter BloodCare stated that “We very much appreciate your efforts during this crucial time.”
Future 2015 Blood Drive dates at All Saints are March 22, May 17, August 23 and November 22.

Membership
MEMBERSHIP CORNER
By Kevin Finch
Membership Director
We have two major events on the horizon for the membership of our
council. The most important event is happening at Prince of Peace at
8:00AM on March 28. All of our first degree members have the
opportunity to receive their Second and Third Degrees on this date.
I will attempt to contact all members, some thirty plus of our council who
have not advanced to the higher degrees to encourage them to attend
this impressive set of ceremonies. Therefore, it is important that those
who have already attained full Knighthood also make plans to attend the
ceremony to support our brother knights. Additionally, if you have
signed a form 100 as a sponsor of a knight who has not advanced to their
major degrees please contact your sponsored knight(s) and encourage
them to attend the ceremony.
We will have our last membership drive for the fraternal year and have
slated the weekend of March 14 and March 15 for this event. We need
as many knights as possible to help with this event. It is a very easy thing
to do and very important for our council. So if you have about 15 minutes
that you can assist with the drive please contact me at 972-467-4753 or
[email protected].
In ceremonies held on February 14 two new members joined our
Order. From left, Adam Carr was on hand to welcome Octavi o
Murcio while Ed Schwieterman received the emblem of the Order
from his dad, Stan Schwieterman.
On February 25 Membership Director Kevin Finch (back left) and
Grand Knight Harry Storey (back right) welcomed Ramus Paron
(front left) and Patrick Brady (front right) into the Order.
This past month has been another exciting month for our membership. Octavio Murcio,
Ed Schwieterman, Ramus Paron, Patrick Brady and Jessie McLean joined our Order. We
also welcomed in Matthew Baril a transfer from Reno, NV and the brother of former
Lumen Christi Council member Tommy Baril. My goal for the rest of this year is to have
an additional ten new knights. Your help with the March membership drive is critical for
this goal to be reached.

Knights of Columbus Sets Insurance Record for 14th Consecutive Year
Dear Brother Knights
The Knights of Columbus
recorded its 14th
consecutive year of growth
in insurance sales, with
more than 8.2 billion in
new life insurance and a
record of more than $96
billion of life insurance in
force. “In 133 years of
operation, the Knights of
Columbus has helped meet
the spiritual and financial
needs of Catholic families,
while serving the
community through
charitable works,” said
Supreme Knight Carl A.
Anderson. “We are pleased
to have had great success
on both of these fronts,
which comes from our
continued commitment to
our founding mission of
serving our neighbor
consistent with Catholic
social teaching. Anderson
explained that the recordbreaking results mean that
the Order has “helped its
members to protect their
families while
simultaneously enabling the
Knights to support those
most in need and the many
works of the Catholic
Church.”
The Knights enjoys a
stalwart reputation for
financial security, has one
of the lowest lapse rates in
the industry and offers a
product line of life
insurance, annuities,
disability income and longterm care policies designed
to meet the needs of
Catholic Families.
In M arch 2014, the Knights
of Columbus was named
one of the world’s most
ethical companies by the
Ethisphere Institute. In
June, the Order retained its
spot on the Fortune 1000
list and earned a 39th
consecutive A+ +
(Superior) rating for
financial strength from
rating agency AM Best.
Lent is upon us, which
allows us to reflect on the
Passion, Death and
Glorious Resurrection of
Our Lord Jesus. Now is a
good time to review your
insurance to be sure
everything is in place. I
provide free financial
reviews as a fraternal
benefit to all my Brothers.
VIVAT JESUS!
The Supreme Knight’s Corner
During her fourth apparition
in December 1531, Our Lady
described Juan Diego as “ my
youngest son” and told him
not to fear. T hen she said,
“ Am I not here, I who have
the honor to be your Mother?
Are you not in my shadow
and under my protection? Am
I not the source of your joy?
Are you not in the hollow of
my mantle, in the crossing of
my arms? Do you need
something more?” Mary
brings our families closer to
the Holy Family, which St.
John Paul II described in his
1994 Letter to Families as
“ the icon and model of every
human family.” T oday, the
challenges facing families
seem to multiply faster than
we can count. What better
time, then, to turn again to
Mary and the Holy Family to
find that path by which each
of our families may grow
more fully alive?
Vivat Jesus!
